A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will today, May 26, 2026, deliver its judgment in a suit seeking the disqualification of a former President, Goodluck Jonathan, from the 2027 presidential race. Justice Peter Lifu will also give a definitive ruling on whether the former president can still take the oath of office after he had done so twice before leaving office in 2015.


 The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has appealed the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified its revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections. INEC on Monday filed a notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution of the judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar.

 Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has shot down talks that President Bola Tinubu garnered over 10 million votes from the All Progressives Congress primary election, which held at the weekend. Speaking with journalists at his Ajiya ward in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State after casting his vote in the African Democratic Congress Presidential Primary, Atiku urged Nigerians to make good use of 2027 general elections by voting out the ruling party.

 The Nigerian military has raised the alarm over possible terror attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP at densely populated locations across the North-East during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The spokesman of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Lt. Col. Sani Uba, gave the warning in a statement issued to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday.

 Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, said he was not surprised by the withdrawal of Siminalayi Fubara, Rivers State governor, from the All Progressives Congress, governorship primary election. Speaking on Monday after inspecting infrastructural projects in Abuja, Wike said Kingsley Chinda, the APC candidate has the legislative and executive experience to govern the south-south state.

 The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 27th May and Thursday, 28th May 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, on Monday.

 Suspected bandits on Monday launched a coordinated midnight attack on the Yashikira community in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, burning a section of the emir’s palace and abducting three wives and four children of the traditional ruler, Alhaji Umar Seriki. It was gathered that heavily armed men storm the border town in large numbers, firing sporadically into the air before advancing directly toward the palace and nearby police formation.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Nigerians alongside 66 other suspects during a series of intelligence-led anti-narcotics and crime suppression operations in the Upper East Region of the country.
