In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the Command dismissed a viral social‑media narrative claiming that Babatola was arrested in collaboration with the state government for political reasons. The police described the circulating claims as emotionally charged, misleading, and unverified.
According to the Command, the case began on 25 May 2026, when a 30‑year‑old woman, Bukola Oluwaseun, reported at the Oke‑Ila Divisional Headquarters that Babatola allegedly forcefully had carnal knowledge of her at KIIBAT Hotel in Ado‑Ekiti the previous night. She also accused him of assaulting her and inflicting visible injuries.
The victim told police she met the suspect on social media three months earlier while he was abroad. Upon his return to Nigeria, they agreed to meet physically. She alleged that he drove her to the hotel under the guise of having a conversation, but once inside, he allegedly raped her without consent, assaulted her, and fled , blocking all her contact channels immediately after.
Police said Babatola was invited for questioning, and after preliminary investigation, the case was transferred to the State CID. During interrogation, he claimed he became angry when the victim allegedly asked for payment before sxx. He denied penetration but admitted leaving her in the hotel room and cutting off communication.
However, a medical examination confirmed penetration, contradicting his claim.
Following investigation, Babatola was charged to court and is currently remanded at the Correctional Service Centre in Ado‑Ekiti.
The Command urged the public to disregard rumours of political interference, stressing that the arrest was based on a clear criminal complaint, thoroughly investigated in line with the rule of law, fairness, and professionalism.
