Beauty Queen Dabota Lawson Interview....''I Am Mulit-Talented''

Shes so beautiful and scandal free with oyibo nose..........abi?lol
She was Former Miss UK,Nigeria and here she talks about all  .....

  Tell us about yourself:
I am Dabota Lawson, I am from Rivers state. A beauty queen and an actress; typical Gemini multiple personality, one minute I could be really fun and the next I could be really dull.  I am friendly, actually with people I have become used to.

When did you start acting?

I started acting last year July. It just happened; acting came to me, I didn’t go looking for it. I went to meet Desmond Elliot in his office because I wanted to start producing my own reality show and after we spoke he asked me to try acting and I agreed, he told me he was going to Sierra Leone and asked me to come with him; I was there for 3 months shooting a movie with him and bunch of other people from different parts of Africa, Liberia, South Africa, Ghana, Malawi and even the Sierra Leoneans; it was a good experience.  I spent two and a half months there and my acting career just kicked off afterwards. I just wrapped up from another set two days ago.

So how has the journey been so far?

It’s been good, sometimes the job comes and other times it is really slow depending on the season and the period in the year. The first half of the year they don’t really come as much as they do compared to the other half of the year.

How would you describe the reception from the Nigerian Audience?

I haven’t really gotten any negative comments based on the fact that most of my fan base are kids, I don’t really have adult fans and they’ve just always loved everything that I do what I do and they support me; hardly ever do I get that big down some celebrities get and besides am not one of those people that put my business out there for you to counter my work with. My work is my work and my personal life is my personal life, I don’t mix the two.

Prior to acting what were you doing?

I was modeling and also working with a dredging company as an accountant, and I was modeling in between and managing my own business Diamond Inc. which is a PR event managing company and I was also running Lady mechanic initiative which is an NGO that trains young girls who have lost their way in life to become professional mechanics, place them in good jobs etc.

Do you still practice as an Accountant?

Yes I manage small businesses, I audit some business accounts. It doesn’t require me going to any office. They submit it to me and I work on them, it’s not time consuming and it’s not boring as people think. It’s actually nice because I love doing it.

Tell us about your PR firm

Diamond Inc. was something I put together when I was 17 while I was in the UK, and then when I came back to Nigeria I decided to set it up. The idea behind it was supposed to be a networking thing between those who don’t have the opportunity to reach out to people who already are there can come together, assist them, network with them, help them or motivate them to be in one environment, but then it turned into something else where people pay to be promoted or managed; we decided to manage them individually and push each person towards who they really need to be in touch with or fix them in the right places where they can help themselves.

We don’t really deal with big celebrities because I cannot manage people like myself, we manage upcoming talent and we just basically try to help them and we don’t charge anything, we only charge for events; we have worked with Pepsi (soccer match), Airtel, mini clubs and Restaurants that are opening.

What inspired you into acting?

I am multi-talented as a person, I can dance, sing, act and I model and I felt acting is the only place where I can put all these together without looking like jack of all trade; so with acting I can get into character of a model, a queen, a witch, I can dress up if it involves dressing up, make up and I can speak so I can still reach out to people and the kind of movies I do are Pan African movies, I am trying not to get carried away  with just doing things because I want to gather a bit of fan base. I do things that appeal to me and I also read script that appeal to me. Acting allows me to combine the Dabota that I am in one.

Who do you look up to in Nollywood and Modeling industry?

I look up to Desmond Elliot who I started working with in Nollywood, have to watched him grow up as a kid and have seen our far he’s gone and have been able to work with him from being an actor to a producer, to a brand ambassador and he is a family man and he is scandal free.

Omotola  Jolade is someone I also look up, she has the same line, she produces her own show, she is a married woman, manages family with business and she is scandal free too.

In the modeling industry Oluchi Orlandi is one my role model and a good friend of mine and I admire her for the same reason. I admire women who have managed to be in the spotlight and still do things that women should do which is start a family, be a good mum, manage your business; I mean that’s how Beyonce is so any woman doing the same thing I really admire. I don’t admire women who feel like being crazy in public eye is cool, that’s not cool to me.

How has your modeling career been combing all together?

It’s not been easy to be honest, I break down a lot because it’s like am living in so many different world and it’s not easy putting your hand in so many things and try to grow; it’s a lot easier when you are just involved in one thing. I can’t give up on talents that God has given me however am just hoping that at some point in time I will be able to focus on one thing and I believe that would be acting.

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

I can’t really say, tomorrow is not promised. I am just hoping on God that am alive, have a family, progress in my career as an actress and a model.

What would you not be caught doing?

You will never catch me playing with a cat, sorry to all the cat lovers but am scared of cats.

Since your return from the UK, how has the Nigerian experience been?

It is better than when I was in the UK.
