Ghanaian Actors Have Become Household Names In Nollywood.

I don't know if i am the only one that has noticed but Ghanaian actors seem to have eaten deep into our entertainment sector and Nigeria has become more like home to them.....I mean they are everywhere in Nigeria claiming the Alister spot.

I do not know if it is so with Nigerian actors going over and being accorded the same treatment and i do not know if this is a good thing i really think the Ghanaians have been over celebrated in Nigeria.
Okay a few of them can act but the others are just fine faces no action!

Who else has noticed this trend and what can be done to balance it?Yvonne Nelson,Yvonne Okoro,Jackie Apiah,Nadia Buari,Majid Michel,Van Vicker,John Dumelo et al have become household names in Nigeria and threatening to over take Nollywood's Alister's.
Ghanaian Actresses are even codely or openly dating Nigerian male Celebs for relevance and it is working!
Have they been over celebrated and over hyped by the Nigerian media?Do they deliver their movie roles better than their Nigerian counterparts? Are their red carpet garbs better?

What is the attraction?I also noticed that whilst their Ghanaian colleagues have maintained their skin tones and natural looks, most of Nigerian actresses have become barbie dolls overnight with their fake skin, fake eyes brows/lashes,fake yansh lenght hair, fake attitude and have imported phonetics on display!

Blog visitor lets discuss intelligently, whats your take on this?

  1. Nollywood is a bigger industry than hollywood. So if you want to make it big u need to break into ur industry. Thats why the ghanaians are coming to nigeria. There is no reason.for nigerians to.go to ghana as they dont have an industry as big as urs. As far as dating nigerians etc u have to.remember that ur population is so big that u can meet more.nigerians than.other nationalities.finally stella remember that nigerians migrate to.every part of thos world so be careful to.question other nationalities coming to ur country. Last thing. Nigerians are just more fun than the average african so we get hooked

  2. What is wrong with you stella? You are exposed aren't you? Who cares!!! Entertainment is entertainment we've seen an influx of Australians and Brits in Hollywood (America) over the years and non have been so myopic as to think entertainment belongs to the other. it's all about having fun. If you knw not what to post, be patient news go come. By the way, I'm Naija to the core. PS: can't begin to express my disappointment cause I really do root for this blog...

  3. LikE seriously thats the truth. Naija actresses are busy doing runs, snatching husbands, bleaching their skin, showing off what they shopped and forcing themselves to be musicians...SMH for them. For the actors I don't really hear much about them,I just hope these ghanians won't take over.

  4. Most of them have really worked hard in our industry so they deserve to be relevant. I know Artors like Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah, and Nadia Buari have been here long enough and deservedly should be recognized as A-listers too. Their acting is VERY impressive. I was even pleasantly amazed when I heard Van Vicker speaking igbo fluently in a movie (don't remember the name though). So, dear Stella, free them small. Some of them are actually hard working.

  6. You are right S to D K.

I think Nollywood was/is a hotspot which gave/gives them more popularity.

Its not like they all have very good acting skills than our own nollywood actress but their fusion with our own stars just makes them look like a diamond in the sky.

Yvonne and Yvonne, majid, Jacky, dumelo, Van V and a few others are good I must say....

Now, not trying to diss our own...but just a few of our stars take very good care of themselves. Omotola, Genny, Nse, mercy j, Ramsey and a few others fall into this category. Some others, I just don't know...they use their money to destroy themselves in the name of looking good...bleaching and all sorts.

    Oh well....

  7. I dont care about Nollywood or their Ghanaian counterparts. The whole industry is a charade full of mediocres.

Trust me, I dont watch Nollywood movies. I despise the movies. Bad production, horrible plots etc. All full of BS!

  9. These small group of Ghanian actors/actresses are more beautiful than all of Nollywood combines.....I am non-Ghanian or Nigerian but very infused with the industry, so I can speak without bias or maybe because the Nigerian actors/artist are total show-offs....one movie role and they are posting pics of themselves all over the internet trying to make themselves relevant....to speak the there is nothing much to most of these Nigerian artist/actors, they are all showoffs, fame hungry, braggarts, soul-less (should I go on?)!!

  12. I totally agree with you Stella, do they treat Nigerians the way we treat their actors?...Nope! Definitely not, they are highly pretentious and they fake a lot to get what they want/need, as a matter of fact Ghanaians are generally hostile towards Nigerians, Ask any Nigerian living in their country they will tell you they have serious complexes when it comes to Nigerians and always have issues with us. Back to the topic they actually "try" to boycott Nigerian movies, try because like someone rightly said Nollywood is one of the biggest so therefore they find it impossible to "float" without Nigerian movies, therefore have to come here to"shine and famz" and actually can't do without our movies, go to any ghanaian blog where a ghanaian actor has been pitched against a Nigerian actir and u'll see all sorts of comments downgrading the Nigerian act and hailing their own and saying all sorts of negatives, obviously about nationality and highly biased, if it was a small portion of the commenters I'd say it's normal but almost of ALL OF THEM are always quick to bring the Nigerian down and say all sorts, and unlike us even tho we generally have sharp mouths, u'll easily find Nigerians hyping Yvonne or Nadia or Majid, even when pitched against one of our actors, u'll still see Nigerians rooting for their stars, coz we don't discriminate or care for all that crap, also they are seriously eager (dreaming/hallucinating) to take over Nollywood and will do anything to desperately attract public attention to their movie industry, notice the rise in lewdness and sex in their movies? infact they make soft porns in place of supposed basic movies....

So therefore u r right, their celebs r over-celebrated here, their acting or garbs are NOT in any way better, i mean that's a broad comparison, but let me just say we are as we are, we are not perfect or saints but Nigerians are very accommodating and are on TOP of it no matter what these Ghanaians do!

  14. See Juliet Ibrahim that came to chook her mouth all the way from Ghana in wetin no "consine" am? Seriously, check it! Can a Nigerian try that in their own country? Hmmmmm they'll finish that Nigerian then chase him/her out back to Nigeria!
Abeg these people are over-rated here and need to be reminded in order to get that reality jolt, so thanks a lot for this post Stella.

  15. As for the change in complexion, they are all guilty, check out their pix when they just started and now.
Yvonne N for one has had a 300% upgrade in her complexion.

  16. Ghanaians annoy me big time - Yvonne 'Scary Eyes' Nelson ,Juliet 'Elephant' Ibrahim and co have said terrible things about Nigeria but still come here to hussle for their daily bread.
They are all hungry mothafuckerz(check out Jackie Appia's collar bones, in the days of yore before Nollywood producers decided 2 pity her) and also, have serious inferiority complex and can in no way be compared with my Nollywood angels.

  18. I liked Nadia until she became an "American" it's so hard to follow plots of her some of her movies with her newly acquired American Accent. I get confused. Even she gets confused. Someone needs to tell her to stop shouting too!

  19. like seriously Ghanian actors/actresses have nothing morally upright to impart to d younger generation. There movies are sexually brash n lewd. Somtimes i wonder if their movies are porn movies or home movies. I remember in d aerly 90s n 2000, they were in Negeria to soaps n movie production. Their actors perpetually suffer frm inferiority complex so they have to team with Naija guys to get thier low worth asses relevant. Nigerians adore anything foreign thats y we eulogise them. I dnt patronise their movies cos they r morally in d dungeon. D so called famous Van V is a Ramson Noah wannabe, of course Naija na big brother so we got to accommodate d racist Gh***.

  20. The Ghanaians had to up their game to fit in into nollywood and as it is there is just no stopping them now! What is coming is a blend of new faces in a nollywood sugar asoegwu, nkiru umeh etc and much of ghanaians Helen Asante and of cos the known ones. These ghanaians, they do act like their life depends on it and see where it has taken them!

  21. We said Ghana must go along time ago, but bcos some of our brothers nor dey wan sit down for house all dis pple don use the excuse wan cme sit down here bcos celeb too. Our naija celeb should continue fighting themselves n form famzing wth dis insecure jealous ghanians he go shock them wen ghanians take over completely. I met a man at heathrow airport ones who was Ghanaian n bcos of that I felt cool talking to a brother as I claimed in my head, but by the time dis dude made 10 statement I concluded they re all angry pple. Told my family wen I got home and my brother who has been in uk for 15yrs said they re very jealous pple n hate nigerians alot. He said most of his zambia and s.leone friends ask him if there is a history problem he does not knw about. I met a ghanian in Germany who also said to my face its hard for a ghanian to honestly love a Nigerian as a human being. That they just tolerate us.
Juliet ibrahim put her mouth for wetin nor consern her and nothing happen if na nigerian try that one ehn, he will be deport or repatriate any time he go Ghana again.
I dnt hve a problem wth them visiting ones a while or even acting here ones a while but this every day life is too much and it's not creating space for up coming Nigeria star. So abeg Ghana must go ooo

  22. Please Stella, these is uncalled for, do we want to start "this" War all over again? In Hollywood different people from different Race/ethnicity or Nationals are celebrated, how much less our next door neighbours who are more less our kith & kin ( most Nigerians have mixed blood with Ghanians, Togolese, Camerounians, Nigeriens etc.

Please, anyone can be honored where Ever & when Ever, If you are good at What you do.

  23. Stella God will bless you for this post! I was just thinking about this last week... the way these ghanian actors/actresses have flooded naija is ridiculous! Yvonne Nelson practically lives in nigeria..even had her movie premier in naija really? is it that bad in ghollywood? their girls are also all over our guys! yvonne nelson/iyanya before she was slept with and dumped! Bankyw and that glacicicicica whatever girl! its just irritating! The truth is that if this doesnt stop, they will take over trust me! now adays, i read more news about yvonne nelson than genevive on the blogs! isnt that sick?

  24. Stella is nt trying to cause unnecessary drama.I'v noticed this also bt what can i do?I don't hv problems wid Ghanians making it in Nig bt the door/gap shld nt just be left open.
There shld be sm restrictions for d sake of protection and indegenization b4 here becomes a dumping ground.

  25. Nigerians are very loving accommodating people, we are givers and love other nationalities even more than our own so am not surprised. It's not same with other countries including Ghana

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is realy uncalled 4 IMO..our own Psqare, Dbanj and others are also over rated outside the shores of Nigeria. Rihanna, Wyclef are also not Americans but they've hit it big over there. So why the hate? If you're sad that Ghanians are taking over then Nigerian actors should buckle up!!

    My two scents!!!
