Less Action And Even Lesser Reaction....Ponder On This.

Good day Madame Stella! trust U are good, despite the sad news every where in Nigeria.
There something really bothering me and the unfortunate plane clash yesterday is another pointer to the reality.

We are already familiar with all the problems in Nigeria, but one simple thing that is costing lives is Nigeria's preparedness or lack of it in reacting to unfortunate incidents.

Even if Nigeria has decided not to take pre-emptive measures against forestalling accidents, how about responding which doesn't cost much.

I've never been involved in an air-mishap, but from the little I know, no plane crashes suddenly, within, say a minute of encountering problems. Now I ask, what do the crew members do within that precious time. Let's work with a time frame of 10minutes. What's the essence of those beautifully attired host/ess giving us crash course of what to do incase of an emergency and we hardly have survivors even with the parachute, emergency door etc. Yesterday's crash was minutes after take off.

Also, what do the crew guys do with the control tower immediately they detect problems. We never hear the aftermath or results from the black box to know. Most importantly too, once a problem has been reported, why aren't emergency respond units, Fire service, para medical etc waiting on ground and not arriving 40minutes after crash.(Heard the were survivors from yesterday that tried to escape, before fire engulfed them, same thing happened with the Sosoliso crash in portharcourt involving students).

The recent case in Yobe is another example, survivors say they were under siege for some minutes before the shooting started. Why wasn't a distress call made; No provision for that?

May God keep us!

  1. Safety instructions demonstrated by hostesses are for when there's a chance of emergency landing, landing on water, serious tubulence, loss of oxygen etc

Those lessons cant help when a plane is about to crash. No lesson can help cushion the impact of a fallen plane. And FYI, passengers don't have access to parachutes.

Of course when a pilot detects problems, he reports it but there's usually little or nothing that can be done to help a pilot who has lost both plane engines. If you google, I'm sure you can hear some recordings of the pilot of a crashed plane reporting a mishap.

As for yesterdays crash, there were survivors. The emergency services should be commended for acting promptly otherwise the survivors might have been roasted to death.

  2. I was going to read this and move on to the next one, but no I won't.

I totally agree with what this writer has written. In Nigeria something terrible happens and we cry and sympathise, and 2 days times life goes on. It should not be the case, people should be made accountable.

Crash happened in American recently only 5 people lost their lives, over 190 or so survived. We need to ask questions and follow up, and also follow through.

Enough already with young souls dying and families lossing their dearest. I don't know anyone on board that flight, but I was very sad. It could have been anyone, but for God's grace.
Stella how can we use ur powerful blog?

  11. Very thoughtful of d sender. I was also askin my mum d same questn yesterday as regards d usefulness of wat d pilot explains nd wat Air host/hostess demonstrates physically weneva a plane is abt to take off on d usage of emergency exit nd parachutes nd she was lik Cabin crew members nd passengers mite nt remember to use d security measures being explained to dem again due to fear nd panic

  12. Na true talk. Infact these days when i fly, i dont bother to listen to all the demo those cabin crew tend to give us. 'exit to the left and right. and dont put ur bags under. d seats by the exits' . Like anyone has managed to ever use the exits in times of serious crashes. Even the crew members doing d job are d first to get confused sef.
Na only God go save this country and the citizens from all these man-made problems. God help us all.

  14. one thing i have been pondering on is this.
why is it that the black box is always found intact in most cases? why can't the whole plane be made of the material used for the black box? my 2 cents

  15. its true that u don't knw anything about air mishaps this plane lost its engine and came down 2minutes after take off no time to do any safety drill...there is nothing cabin crew can do when the plane goes down this fast

  16. Mr. Richie Rich, if the whole plane is made up of the same material used for the black box, i doubt it will be able to take off to begin with.

  18. I want to believe that out of panic we can forget what next to do incase of emergency. That is Y Red cross while we whr in sch those days always teach student how to breath in n out b4 doing anything so to calm d panic state n u will be able to think straight...but I guess d casualties whr much in this case because d plane fell on a fuel tank.
God should just help us in this country of ours. Like some1 sad we shld not forget to always pray for our country everytime and @anon 11:06 God is everywhr n he knws d end from d beginning.
My uncle was in d plane crash n I heard d Pilot survived. #sadmuch
