The chairman of the Mobilisation and Organisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, Prince Buruji Kashamu and former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel are at loggerheads right now following alleged moves by the former governor to reportedly hijack the ticket of the Ogun East senatorial district.
Recall the party members from the 9 local government areas making up the senatorial district had endorsed Kashamu, who recently won the ticket at a primaries conducted in Ijebu-Ode. Daniel, according to the state PDP Chairman, Chief Bayo Dayo, had, about two days before the senatorial primaries, written to formally inform the party of his withdrawal from the race.
Also speaking, Kashamu said he had undergone a lot of pressure to concede the senatorial ticket to the former governor who never contested the primary election. Reacting to Kashamu’s statement, Daniel, in a statement by his media aide, Ayo Giwa, on Tuesday, urged the leaders of the party to stop discussing internal disagreements within the party on a daily basis on the pages of the newspapers.
According to the statement, “internal disagreements, which are supposed to be necessary ingredients of democracy, are, on daily basis, being externalised. These smirks of indiscipline must be discouraged by all lovers of democracy, especially at this crucial period when we inch towards a major election that will shape the future of the nation.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has declared that there were no authorised primaries held in Ogun State, as the leadership of the party had earlier on called on all stakeholders to come with a unity list of candidates encompassing all various interest groups across the state.
“Tremendous progress has been made in this respect and the onus lies on the leadership to point the way forward. However, at an emergency meeting summoned by the national leadership of the party on Christmas Day, Chief Daniel was directed to run in order to enhance the success of the party at all levels in the senatorial district and by extension, the whole of the state.
“Going by this arrangement, it is absurd for any group to call themselves delegates and make statements that will only heat up the polity and may inadvertently affect the fortunes of the Party in the State.
The position of Otunba Daniel remains that all hands must be on deck to ensure the success of all the PDP candidates at the polls by mapping out campaign strategies and ways of reaching out to the masses for their block vote in the forthcoming elections.”culled from citypeople

DeleteOGD still dey???lolz...
ReplyDeleteLol I nearly ask the same question u asked, gbenga daniel and jazz
DeleteHe dey o. Nothing do am. I was shocked at the earlier report that GOD conceded and allowed Kashamu the senatorial seat without contesting it. We all assumed it was because Kashamu has the wherewithal to run more than Daniel has at this time. But I was disappointed that a man as brash and as exposed as Daniel could chicken out that cheaply. Now this report sounds a bit more like the old OGD of Ogun state. Very witty and unassuming.
DeleteAnd I also agree with him that they should keep their in house disagreements out of the pages of the newspaper. Haba.
