Muna Obiekwe's Death And Nigeria's Pathetic Healthcare System

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning yet again as actor Muna Obiekwe passed on yesterday after battling with kidney ailment.
most of his colleagues are in deep shock because Muna was fiercely private and did not put his business out there....they did not know his was even ill and the shock of his demise has once again brought to the forefront the pathetic state of the healthcare system in Nigeria.

Actor Dayo Amusan perhaps in agreement with her colleague Ify Okeke has re posted her two cents about how Nollywood treats their own..
read further please!

Late Muna On Dialysis

I hear N50k is needed for dialysis per day and Muna allegedly could not afford this,
The health system in Nigeria needs a total revamp.
This is not how it is the world over.
You pay for insurance once a year and it covers health care for the year!

Ify Okeke

Ify Okeke should put a sock on it!
What did she do to help Muna?
It is too late to cry like a red riding hood that a wolf is after...This is time for inward check for all Nigerians who are in positions that can better the healthcare system but sit down on their portfolios and do nothing.

MAY GOD PUNISH ALL THOSE IN POWER WHO DO NOTHING TO BETTER THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN NIGERIA!

RIP Muna Obiekwe!..you will be greatly missed.

  31. Health is wealth and a country without free health system for its people like small Cuba is waste. Every street especially in Lagos has one hotel some more, I ask myself why can't those who build hotels to fuck use similar fund to build a hospital, equip, go to countries like Cuba, SA, even Russia to bring in doctors to manage hospitals for them. I believe hospital can fetch good fund more than hotels. In Imo state the only investment visible in that state is Hotels, petrol stations, and keke no other business very sad. We have money and man power, our doctors are running out of Nigeria due to lack of place to work or good hospitals thou they are not good enough and need more training. Let our people start health tourism like India and other countries its better than hotel tourism and government should encourage such investment more than hotels.

  35. Oh shut up Ify! Everyone in Nollywood do not have to be friends. If Muna had refused to go public why would his friends go against his decision?

Even if he was undergoing regular dialysis, there is no assurance he wouldn't have died still. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. His friends probably tried their best but there was only so much they could do.

I understand Muna's reluctance to go public with his health problems. I would have done the same as I absolutely hate having to beg for anything.

If he had asked for help from the public, some people would asked why celebrities don't have savings. While waiting for kidney transplant, a kidney disease patient spends between 50k to 100k on weekly dialysis. Is that not enough to empty an average person's savings account?

That is why responsible governments the world over put in place robust health care packages to take care of unforeseen health challenges.

Ibinabo, what ever happened to the Nollywood health care insurance package you were always using as a campaign tool?

It's looking like Clarion is right. Your government needs to do more than organising burials.

From the days of junior and pretty, Junior needed just 500k to survive no one assisted him. It was lagos state govt that helped Ngozi Nwosu despite her plea Enebeli Elebuwa cried n cried before help was given, it even made Stella Damasus got angry and ranted. My own take is that as presidents of AGN and PMAN, what is their welfare package like? Do they commit their colleagues into savings for the future?I won't believe if avery body claims they never knew he was actually ill. But some decided to keep quiet and do this 'e no concern me look'. Will you see your ignorant child put his /her hand in fire without raising alarm? It is just so pathetic hat he is gone and gone forever. This would serve as a lesson to others cos being a celeb doesn't make u live your life on a fast lane without thinking about tomorrow . 1. It's obvious this okeke lady be looking for cheap publicity by calling out her colleagues...she that knew bout his health ish what did she do,cant recall seeing her on telly soliciting for funds on his behalf...it bad to speak ill bout d dead bt den muna was a bigot, what stopped him from goin to media houses to make known his plight, all u get to hear is that he was a private person, now look where his privacy has landed him m/yl ds lady should just shut up jare, cos if u ask around it might probably turn out that she never contributed a cent to his health

@stella i quite agree with u our health system needs revamping but if u were to be in the health sector like some of us,ud know that it ain't a child's play acquiring a dialysis machine,do u know how much it cost? We are talking bout lots of millions and u don't expect when a private individual running a private hospital acquires such with his hard earned money, what would u rather have him do,run it 4free? Naa i don't think so...he wouldav just gone to d north where d govt owned hospital has a dialysis machine,it wouldav been cheaper and that's if d thing still dey function sef...in nigeria u could count d number of govt owned hospital that cld attest to having a dialysis machine, truth b told,i doubt say dem reach 5sef but still we are hopeful naija go better

  69. Rip to him. Yeah it's that expensive. Then consider if he had to do it twice in a week. Even if they raise funds for him, how long would he have lasted on the dialysis, knowing that maybe what he needed was a transplant. Kidney donation is not that rampant, matching of types and co.There should be a subsidised rate for dialysis by government hospitals in this country. It's very bad really. At least while the patients are looking for donors.

Instead of them to use their voices for good governance. They campaign for what everybody is seeing that nothing is happening.may they suffer what the poor man goes through IJN. Until we all campaign for good governance. Use your celebrity status well.so sad! Nigeria n's can sell their soul for money. They don't care.if everybody dies.for the fact they are alive, they will campaign for thieves.we are all in this. Those of you that run around campaigning for leadership that is clearly not working, leaving your brothers to die and suffer and still keep qyiet.then go to social media to say# RIP.God is watching you.prosterity will not forgive and forget you. 108. This is sad and painful. The government doing nothing to better the health care system in the country. Some nollywood fellas have this money but they are obviously unwilling to help. now time to call people out.
    starting with actors guild.
most of you are fake and not real.you derive joy and pleasure coming out to the internet to show off your ignorance and foolishness.exhibiting wealth that no one is interested in.no matter the private life muna lived; you all will not tell me that non of you knew that muna was sick. don't say he didn't ask for help because you don't need for your brother to ask for help before you lend him a hand.you all could have gathered privately and raised money.then go visit him; which I know he could have loved it because it will show you all really cared for him. I hate your fake lives and loud lives.change you all and stop showing us your wealth.use it to look out for each other.this calls for a rethink on the way you all have been behaving towards one another.

now to all those that have put Nigeria in this ugly state.God punish you all and your generations. you will never no peace with all those wealth and may those wealth go the way it came when you are no more.so so angry.

  118. Is a pity we lost such a wonderful soul. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Every one is to be blamed. The government who cannot make health care affordable by the common man. The colleagues and friends who couldn't organise to raise fund for him but keep spending money on irrelevant things. And individuals who find happiness in abusing and bullying others and made him not to seek for help openly is also to be blamed. Just little advice to those who do not mind their words but see every opportunity to insult, abuse, or curse other because you feel nobody knows you. Just know that if your words and action s cause others pain then you are liable to what happens to them .

  124. Big sister Stella I don't think Ify should put a sock in it. I know of a story where a boy was throwing back into the sea, oysters, on a beach full of oysters . And he commented to a passerby who question his actions. That at least he has made a difference to one.

We live in a world were people just make up their own rules. I rejoice when people succeed and look for opportunities to help them. My dear the Lord allowed me to pick the shock of my life. When I begged from my so called friends who claim to reach out. I was insulted played about. Lord have mercy. I now understand why people looked at me strangely and question why I help and encourage people.
You see Muna might have learned a hard lesson. For that reason he wanted to raise the funds for himself and privately.

When I was going through my own challenge. Some one came personally and told me that they want me to suffer. Can you imagine that this person came in the name of checking on my welfare only to deliver this news.

Some people heard of my plight and I tell you they haven't ever said good morning to me. But they sent help. Some I was able to reach out and thank them. Some I had to send a message.

Lord saved me. I tell you Stella Ify has called it out right. One can't have a problem and not have a support system to confidently trust and tell of your ailment.

We are all not perfect even if Muna had his shortcomings. But there could always be a good Samaritan that will be gracious.

The befitting burial Muna will receive you know to what extent the guilt and shame of those who knew could help.
