Venezuela Shocker - Condoms Cost £500

For most of us, sex is a free, fun part of every day life.
But in Venezuela it costs a month’s wages just to get it on with your girlfriend or boyfriend.

That’s because packets of condoms are priced at an astronomical £500.
And that’s when you can find them at all.
To make things worse, this shortage isn’t just a matter of lots of sexually frustrated guys and girls knocking about.

Abortion is illegal in the Roman Catholic country, which also has one of South America’s highest rates of HIV infection.
Experts say the shortage will lead to more teenage pregnancies and deaths.
Prices of johnnies have sky-rocketed as a result of a weakened economy and a turbulent political situation.

People have to queue for hours to get their hands on other imports, such as medicines, nappies, deodorant, and some foods.
One resident, Jonatan Montilla, told Bloomberg: ‘The country is so messed up that now we have to wait in line even to have sex. This is a new low.’

The shortage means some sites are cashing in, with auction website MercadoLibre selling a 36-pack of Trojans for 4,760 bolivars (about £500).
This is nearly as much as the minimum monthly wage.
Gynecologist Carlos Cabrera, vice president of the local branch of International Planned Parenthood Federation, warned that the lack of condoms would mean more women dying in back street abortion clinics.

He told Bloomberg: ‘An unwanted teenage pregnancy is a mark of government’s failure: failure of its economic, public health and educational policy.’culled

Na wah!....the economy is so bad that sex is all they have left and even that isn't easy to come by?..na wah.

    Lowest of the low.

Here in Nigeria that condom is as low as #50, do people use it? No!
Do we still have teenage pregnancies! A lot!
Don't even get me started on abortions.

Our Igbo boys will soon sweep into Venezuela and change it for them.

  18. Chavez left the country in a mess and there is nothing much Nicholas maduro can do. Last year there was no toilet paper in the country, fairly used cars are way more expensive than new cars, their only succour was sex cos of their pretty babes but now sex would cost you an arm and a leg. Hope naija never gets to this stage. #ilovepipilee

  21. They had better start teaching the guys the act of withdrawing when they get to that point. Trust naija boys, my brothers are already on their way with boxes full of condoms @$20 each sef.

  22. Nigeria is tilting towards the same situation. When you have meddling government running every facet of the economy. Venezuela is rich in oil but mismanagement and dictatorship ruined the country. Last time it was scarcity of tissues (toiletries) now scarcity of sex.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Their own bettre na only economic problem dem get, naija own be religious intolerance, BokoH(security), political madness, corruption in high/low places in the mist of overwelming resources so who deserve more pity naija or Venni?

  29. Too bad. See what an over dependence on oil has caused. The Venezuela's economy is built around the black gold(crude oil) & a fall in crude prices has left this mess of a poor economy.

  30. To think that Nigeria economy is worst. Am amazed how other country's currencies still have value.
