President Buhari Appoints New Coordinator For Amnesty Programme‏

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT BUHARI APPOINTS NEW COORDINATOR FOR AMNESTY PROGRAMME

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Brigadier-General P.T. Boroh (rtd.) as the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme for former Niger Delta militants.

Brig. Boroh, whose appointment takes immediate effect, is to take over the
responsibilities of the former Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme.

The appointment of a new Coordinator for the Amnesty Programme is expected to lead to the speedy resolution of recent hitches in its implementation such as the non-payment of outstanding allowances to ex-militants.

  2. That's good!!! It is one of the most pressing issue around that needed an urgent attention. I wished they will be able to provide an everlasting solution to this issue of militants before it goes out of hand again.

I guess this newly appointee is not from the North? I was in serious argument with a friend here today while he was claiming Mr. President has not appointed anybody apart from the North in this adm.

  3. I still don't get why ex militants are paid , the logic eludes me !

Was having this same argument with my colleagues last week - so some youths pick up guns , apparently to fight for the masses , fight for good roads , schools and development in the Niger delta region

right ? Then they started kidnapping and becoming nuisances ... Jonathan then offers 'them - the select few who chose to carry arms ' money , sends them abroad , put them in private schools . And they forgot the fight - the fight that was for development in the Niger delta region .

They are getting fat , enjoying life - why the people they were purportedly fighting for are still suffering - their hometown ati a huge mess . So what was the point of the militant fights? If it's to benefit their pockets ?

Why did Jonathan even negotiate with them ?? Who gives the unemployed benefits ? Why should they enjoy more than us the true citizens because they chose to carry arms and constituTe a nuisance that death by hanging should have solved ?

This is terrible ! And would encourage other groups to pick up arms - after all, it's a settlement with a huge benefits we wld be after

    2. Thank you Lola! I have this same argument all the time at the risk of being called a traitor, because I am from the Niger Delta. Slight correction: it was the late Yar'Adua that implemented the program. However, I do agree with you that it shouldn't have happened in the first place, nor should GEJ have enhanced it. The root problems are still rampant. Poverty, lack of Education, destruction of their livelihood (fishing and farming), due to oil spills from "Big Oil". Meanwhile their so called leaders...the Tampolos, Asari Dokubos and Henry Okahs of their world are feeding fat and getting juicy contracts while the "plebeians" are suffering. If Asari was so concerned about his people, why didn't he build his University in the community, why did Henry Okah have lavish houses in South Africa? What have they done to develop their communities with their juicy Pipeline and Waterways protection contracts??! I know personally what is happening "on ground" as we say. A lot of these boys (and girls) are idle so they still constitute a nuisance. They have become thugs harassing their fellow townspeople and stealing land. After they send them to these schools, then what? Is it sustainable? A more robust plan needs to be implemented. Perhaps there is something I'm missing where in a country, bad behavior is rewarded. I welcome more insight....God bless Nigeria!

  4. Nice move Baba.
FG should initiate another robust programme that'll favour those people not few persons. Forget about what we're seeing in PH City, go to other LGs in PH, Bayelsa, etc and see the level of atrocities committed on their land(s)/water, and the riches of this nation comes from there.
-In some part of Ohaji/Egbema not to talk of other places, you'll be seeing the oil in their farmland, on path roads, etc.
May God grant Rtd Paul Boroh the strength, foresight, etc so as to bring in transformation in that region.
