INEC Interim Boss Mrs Zakari Denies Being Related To President Buhari..

Reacting to the rumour making rounds in the country that she is Buhari's in-law, the acting Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Aminat Zakari, has come out to refute the rumor.

in an interview with Saturday Punch in Abuja on Friday, she said: “General (Buhari) is not my in-law. I am not married to his son. My daughter is not
married to him. That is what I understand about being an in-law, but obviously, in life, you have acquaintances, people you have known,” she said.

Buhari is not known for nepotism, she said, “God decides who becomes (a) leader; if God decides I would be the one to continue, I will have to do my best.”

She stated, “I did not lobby for it (acting chairmanship). I had packed all my things out of INEC; I wanted to leave on the 30th (of June).

“I was just called on my way home as the chairman (Jega) handed over to Ambassador Wali. When I was called that the Head of Service was looking for me and I said, ‘what for?’ and I just continued driving. I was by Bullet House by the time I got the call and I just continued driving.

Reacting to those who insinuated she cannot perform effectively as INEC Chairman because of her gender, she said she was not desperate to retain the job in a substantive capacity.

She stated, “I am a human being first. I have the capacity. If I have the ability to do something and there are ways and means of achieving your targets. You don’t rely on your brain alone. You have other people to rely on. I have done administration. I have worked in organisations that demand accountability.”

The INEC acting chairman explained that she was not appointed commissioner in INEC by Buhari, adding that former President Goodluck Jonathan had appointed her.

  7. I HAVE THREE QUESTIONS FOR MRS ZAKARI AND IF SHE CAN ANSWER ALL OF THEM SHE DESERVES THIS JOB

    QUESTIONS:

    1. ARE YOU A NIGERIAN? - YES/NO

    2. ARE YOU EDUCATED UP TO 1ST DEGREE YES/NO

    3. CAN YOU BE CORRUPTED YES/NO

IF YOU ANSWER TO YES FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS, YOU ARE APPOINTED UNOPPOSED BY ALL WOMEN OF NIGERIA. GOOD LUCK.

PS: CAN YOU PLEASE PUT SOME LIFE INTO YOUR HEAD TIE. GIVE IT SOME CLASS. MEN ARE COMPETING WITH WOMEN IN DRESS CODE THESE DAY.

    1. Question 3 asks if she can be 'corrupted', and u said if her answer is 'Yes'...then she's qualified? Did u mean incorruptible? Lol

Anyway, because of the sensitivity of her position, even as an independent body, the chairman of INEC should not be associated or personally involved with politicians... being a blood relative to the president shouldn't ordinarily disqualify her in other climes, but with the depth of corruption in our electoral system I don't blame those who are complaining. Buhari may mean no harm or intend to manipulate her using their closeness, but as everyone else do not trust themselves, they don't trust the president either. For the sake of argument I think the President should let her off. By the way, he didn't appoint her as the next chairman.. she's only there temporarily.

  9. Buhari's elder sister was married to Amina's father, the Emir of some northern town. Thru this arrangement PMB practically grew up in the Emir's household and knew Amina Zakari from childhood. Isn't that a substantive family relationship btw the current INEC Acting Chairman and PMB? Even more disturbing, why do all these frivolous men/women with hidden agenda, always say it's God who appoints them? Who is fooling who? Are naijas so feeble minded to swallow this bull? I don talk my own.

    1. Hmmm... Her tenure is even over. And according to the Constitution if u are no longer a member of the board u shouldn't be allowed to occupy any capacity. The law argues that her emergence wasn't done the right way. I know the president means well, and I personally do not think that he has a hidden agenda. Let's just say it's typical of any normal person to 'favour' their person when the opportunity presents itself. As I put myself in the president's shoes, and I ask, would I have done same? Hell yeah, I wouldn't by pass my close person to promote another person. But when it becomes problematic and puts my integrity on the line, I would retreat and the person involved should understand I'm in a dilemma.. and as such, would want to do it right by the public.
