Police Kills Driver!

Pandemonium broke out Friday at the Orile side of Second Rainbow along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway as  a trigger-happy policeman killed a commercial bus driver.

According to an eyewitness report, the policeman whose identity is yet to be ascertained, shot the bus driver for refusing to drop the daily amount they usually give policemen, as they (commercial bus drivers) ply that route.

This is coming barely a month after a police Corporal, Museliu Aremu, shot at a tricyclist, Sunday Ebong and killed his wife, Comfort Idongiset at the Ijegun area of the state for refusing to part with N100 bribe.

It was gathered that the policeman, attached to Orile Police Station, had attempted to shoot the tyre of the bus as the driver made to escape, but the shot killed the driver instead.

THISDAY gathered that the bullet hit the driver on his chest, killing him instantly, while his conductor escaped unhurt.

Expectedly, this infuriated other  bus drivers and they staged a protest, forcing the policemen to flee to their station to reinforce.

However, the rampaging bus drivers were having none of that, thus forcing the policemen to shoot into the air to disperse the crowd.

Other commuters who witnessed the sporadic gunshots took to social media to warn potential road users to keep off the route.

All efforts to get the command's spokesman, DSP Joseph Offor, reaction proved abortive as he did not respond to calls to his phone.

  16. Corruption breeds indiscipline. If we had a credible judicial system there will be a significant reduction in the rate at which our security forces murder innocent civilians. Smply put, for average Nigerian , it is now difficult to tell the difference between the amed robbers and police, all one and the same. I am sure like others before him, this officer will not face any consequences for hs crime and the vicious circle continues.

  18. I stay around Orile area, the incident was not caused by the driver's refusal to pay bribe but because he passed a one way road. The police men had warned them severally to stop but they wouldn't listen. Though Its not right that the policeaman shot at the driver, he wld have arrested and taken him to their station. Those drivers too behaves like he goats. RIP to him.
