Lagos State Government Has Shut Down 53 Churches, Mosques And Hotels

The Lagos State Government has shut down 53 churches, mosques and hotels over noise pollution and environmental nuisance. Some of the worship centres were shut because they were converted from residential apartments to places of worship thereby contravening the law and constituting nuisance to other neighbours.

SEE GOV AMBODE WORKING..LOL

General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, Engr Rasheed Shabi, said the agency received lots of complaints from residents and neighbours about the nuisance constituted by the premises shut by the agency.
“In recent times, most of the petitions kept coming back to us. It was as if we are not working at all. That was why we shut the premises,” he said.

Shabi said some of the affected facilities had been served abatement notices before their eventual closure, adding that the growing rate of worship centres in the state calls for serious regulations, especially in the areas of noise pollution.

He added that some of the worship centres polluting the neighbourhood with noise were usually makeshift structures that do not have government approval.

“You cannot have makeshift structure and say you want to be conducting services or vigil there. Definitely, you will be disturbing your neighbours. So, the government won’t allow the use of makeshift facilities as a church or mosque.
Nobody is allowed to make noise above 55 decibel during the day in the residential area and only 45 decibel is allowed in such area at night. In the industrial areas, 90 decibel of noise is allowed during the day while the noise rate must not exceed 80 decibel at night in such areas.''

Shabi said that the hotels were shut for failing to conduct and submit
Environmental Impact Assessment report about their premises.

    1. I am so happy and will pray for Ambode because of this.

Whoever knows the regional pastor of Winners chapel ebute metta should please beg him or her to come and remove the structure and properties they put up in my house at babani street without permission only because my mum allowed them to use the house for fellowship. Neighbours complained and reported to lagos state and they were shut down only for the pastor to blame me. I have never seen a more wicked pastor and workers than those at Winners Babani street, ebute-metta.

in fact i should send Stella a post, i will detail all their atrocities. I have never seen a more heartless and wicked pastor and ushers. This people never paid one dime as rent for two years and when tenants asked them to contribute for nepa bill, they insisted they use generator alone, meanwhile nepa increased the bill because there is a church. they frustrated the tenants for two years up till november when they got their letter from the government.

My prayer for that Pastor is that, since you say you have houses and im not the first to own a house, people will come into your houses and do to it, exactly the way you and your people did to mine without qualms.

  13. What is the parameter been used in measuring the decibel? The rate of unemployment in the country ,which makes people take their certs.to vigil to cry to God, insecurity, corruption, hunger etc should be considered before setting any decibel. The normal decibel should be like 1000 ,Stella tell Ambrose pls. The louder our voice, the sooner God will pass through Nigeria.

    3. The one I have a problem with is the in house church that my neighbour operates. As residential as our neighbourhood they manage to constitute a nuisance at least 2ice a week. We could tolerate the evening midweek service, but they took it a step further when they started their 5 am service using a mic. Come and see serious praise and worship with everywhere vibrating at that time. I had to go to them severally in those hours to complain bitterly. Cos once they start we have to wake up and it became a nightmare. They ran the programme daily for months.

I threatened to invite the lagos state govt to rescue us from the gross inconveniences they put us through. Of course the brain wash from their pastor was that we should not be angry, that God will bless us as we bear with them bla bla. I told them that I worship God too, not an idol. But I do not inconvenience anyone when I pray in my house na. So whats with the sentiment that holds no water?.
Anyway we are finally free again, they've moved to another area to disturb them. It wasn't funny at all. So I support this move by lagos state
