Lassa Fever Hits Ekiti And Delta States!

Barely 48 hours after the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole described Ekiti as example to other states in the management of Lassa fever, a case of the dreaded disease has been reported in Ido Ekiti, headquarters of Ido/Osi local government area of the state.

According to Dailypost,The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo, who confirmed the case officially on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting on Lassa fever in Ado Ekiti, said the patient has been isolated as doctors are battling to ensure her survival.

Delta too...!

According to Informationng,The Delta State Ministry of Health, Monday, announced that it had confirmed the first case of Lassa fever in the state.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Churchill Oyewo, Public Relations Officer of the ministry, the index case occurred after a 65-year-old woman from neigbouring Anambra was admitted at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Asaba.

The woman was said to have been referred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, when her condition worsened. But her case was later confirmed as Lassa fever at the Virology Laboratory, Specialist Hospital, Irrua, Edo.
The ministry said that following the discovery, the state Rapid Response Team immediately placed 22 persons who had contact with the woman on surveillance.

Five other samples had been sent for laboratory investigation, the ministry said, adding that it had informed the Federal Ministry of Health on the development.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has also provided the necessary logistics to enhance contact tracing and control measures, the statement read.

  1. They should do something quick about this disease. I believe this disease is being spread by people living in dirty environments and dirty people. Poverty is no excuse for dirtiness

    1. The stupid speaker of ekiti house of assembly that is talking trash, does he think Lassa fever is a political propaganda? Let him and Fayose be leaking their mouth there. They think Lassa is Buhari that they will be talking about. Is he a health professional that he will make such declaration. Idiot.
Can he account how people travel in and out, the quack traditional doctors that tell people the lassa fever is from the gods, the pharmacy that will keep selling anti typhoid drugs until it gets late. Mtchewwwww.

    2. Let Nigerians sit down and be waiting for Buhari. Dirty people. How can Buhari help you when you cannot even keep your environment clean. How can the govt help you if you woke up this morning and saw rat pooo on top of you basin of garri that you left open inside that dirty store and instead of throwing it away you just pick the 3pcs of rat pooh and throw it away, then use left hand to turn the garri and spread the whole virus in there and then carry it to sell to innocent people.
Even if your house is so clean and fumigated, one dirty neighbour will just help all the rats in the neighbourhood with accommodation until the fumigating chemical is reduced and they are back to your house.
One dirty household can breed rats to infest everyone in that area. Even if your whole area is good, that dirty woman in Oshodi will then come to market and sell Lassa fever virus(garri) and thats how your whole effort is wasted.

Poverty is not an excuse to be dirty. A small house is easier to keep clean. Most people care about how they look all painted up and smelling nice, yet you wine and dine in a rat infested house. Then you come here and start calling Buhari.
      DIRT!DIRT!DIRT!!!!!
Someone will be sick, you will then visit native doctor, visit pastor and finish infecting people before going to the hosp. Getting to the hospital they begin to lie, do you have have fever, are you peeing blood or vomiting blood. NOOOOOOOOOO, I am well in Jesus Name, it is not my portion. Did you travel to any of the following states?? NOOOOOOOO. Then you expect the doctor to perform magic.
      LIES!LIES!LIES!LIES!
Madam,i think you have Lassa fever/ Ebola and we will need to Isolate you until we confirm so that we will not place others at risk. Next second...they have escaped to a church where the pastor claims to cure in spirit and in truth.
If you hold them back,,,their connections in high places will force you to release them.

    3. Almost every Nigerian has a phone, have access to internet to cuss on blogs, gossip on BB, browse pornography but they don't have the faintest idea of how to protect themselves from LASSA Fever.
How can you protect yourself when you don't even know what Lassa fever is about.

It is a click away. How many of you have gone to browse the internet and read about this disease. How can you not have the awareness when the information is there everywhere you are. But once you hear about MATHAROO ashawo twins,,you will keep refreshing and refreshing!
People like Dump TONY IHEKIRE will probably embrace the disease where he is pursuing BUHARI. This blog has really opened my eyes to how ignorant people are in this world.
Someone like Tony Ihekire will now have kids, I wonder what he will teach them. His IQ level is not even enough to sustain a LIZARD.

    2. Do you enter public transports, do you go to church, do you attend events? Funerals, weddings, schools, etc. The person next to you might be carrying the virus. All you need is for him/her to sneeze, cough, vomit etc.... everyone is a suspect

  9. In all honesty, lassa fever will spread across all states cos of movement of people to and fro. It has never been reported like this before naa.Especially this time. But all state governors should equip their state hospitals and the health workers very well to be able to manage it. I think the awareness has not yet been made known enough for people to understand the gravity of this. Maybe because people keep associating it with rats and they are like they have been living with rats for a long time and nothing has happened to them.

    1. Vanessa, ebola and Lassa are two different organisms. How many bats have you seen in your life.
Do we have more bats or rats in Nigeria?
How neat are you and other Nigerians?
How many people will discard that bag of garri because they saw rat pooohh inside?
Do you boycott ceremonies? If your sis is wedding today, will you go there? Will you sit next to someone? will you eat? Do you know where the food, plates, spoon etc you are using came from?
Or will it not be your portion cos it is your sisters wedding?
When you are done with yourself first, then you will find out if the govt needs to be the first point of call or YOU and I.

  19. Stella, could you please confirm the drug for Lassa fever. Ribavirin inhalation is the name of the drug.

Our Government is making it seem like there are no drugs for it. They should try and equip our hospitals.
