Doctors In House Section....

 Hmmm.....

BIGGER RIGHT BREAST
Hello Stella, greetings to you and family.
My right breast became bigger than the left one 6 weeks after delivery.

In fact its as though the left one stopped working and has since returned to its pre pregnancy size even though my baby still feeds on it.  It's been over 2months now and I'm concerned.

I just want to ask bvs and Drs in the house if  there's anything I can do now or I have to wait till I stop breastfeeding. Has anyone else experienced such and what did they do. The difference is massive and I feel so self conscious and yes I'm a first time mum
Thanks Stella pls keep me anonymous

  3. My left breast is bigger than the right. It all started during my first child, i was only giving him the left breast cos i felt comfortable feeding him that one then. After 3mths, i noticed that its getting bigger so i thought may be its a big deal, i went to my hospital and even did mammogram and they found nothing so doctor told me to be giving him the two breast.

During my second baby the same thing happened, i tried as much as possible to give him the right one but still the left one produces more breastmilk so i continue to give him the both.

the right one doesnt produce more milk except the left one. I went to hospital last week for check up and complained, doctor checked again and told me that there is nothing wrong with it that on a normal circumstances that one breast is somehow bigger than the other but i should try and be giving my baby the two breast all the time.

So to ur question so far as u re not having pain its normal but try and be giving him the two breast all the time cos if ur baby gets use to one position, it will be somehow hard for ur baby to feel comfortable and suck in another position. So Give him The two breast, if he sucks the left for 10mins change to the right. Do it that way.

That's my experience and opinion thou.

    1. Gbam! U r right. Same with me. My 1st daughter preferred d right breast and after a while d left stopped producing milk Cos she wasn't sucking it. It normalised after I stopped breastfeeding. I gave birth to my 2nd daughter and made up my mind to give her both breast but the right is still bigger than d left and even produces more milk. I just make sure I give her both sha. I guess it will still normalise when she stops b.feeding.

    4. @ Nwa Amaka Having normal menstrual period doesn't guarantee ovulation.
@Anon11:32 I had the same problem my circle was 28-30days always regular but I wasn't ovulating, I went to the hospital, after using Opk n charting my circle for two consecutive months, I was put on drugs,am ovulating now. So go to the hospital n meet a gynea. You will be fine.

  12. It happened to me, but when my mother in law was around for omugo she told me to breast feed my baby more on the right breast the impact reduced when I used her advice. One thing u should do is to feed him more with ur right breast. Though the two cannot be the same. I had this experience in all my four kids

  13. What my Aunty taught me...
She said anytime you are breastfeeding your baby, make sure the baby sucks both breasts and not one. If the 2 breasts are full as soon as the baby starts sucking after sometimes, change the baby to the other one. SOme babies can suck only one side and be satisfy, ensure to make them suck both at the same time, according to my Aunty to avoid "aka ara" and wetin again sef. I don't know the English name.

The 2 breasts are not same but if the different is so much, my dear see a doc.

  14. Just give ur baby the two breasts intermittently.its very obvious cos one is very full.it happened to me,this is 2years now after childbirth and that big one still brings out milk when le boo goes there for his business.so,do the needful.

  15. I think your baby has been sacking more on one of the breast that's why one is bigger than the other. There is no cause for alarm, just make sure that you baby sucks from both breast to balance thing up.
When I newly gave birth,my baby got used to sucking from my left breast. He woudnt even take from the right breast and it made the left breast bigger. I was told to make sure I alternate him so he can be taking from the both breast and it worked. Please give it a try.

  17. It's normal for one boobs to be bigger than the oda, with my first son, I was only giving him the left breast cuz twas bigger and produces more milk, whereas the right one didn't produce much, even had mastisis sef, twas so painful...so my gp adviced to always make sure that my baby empties one breast first before giving him anoda breast. but with my second child, I have learnt to balance her feeds btw both breasts evenly, so one doesn't suffer for the other

  18. Poster try to feed your baby wit both breast am sure with time it will normalize.

  19. It happened to me as well. They both returned to normal when I stopped breastfeeding. Just keep feeding her with both breasts. You don't have a problem mummy.

  20. If ur child isn't comfortable with sucking one breast, buy an extractor to help balance activity in the other.

  21. the Lady that said she does not ovulate, is possible you ovulate but you do not pay proper attention to your body changes, I will advice you get an ovulation kit it is just 2k, with that you can track your ovulation and know the real day that you ovulate.

secondly, check if your breast is bring out breast milk, that can also cause one not to ovulate, when you are not still ok is better you see a doctor. if you do see your period every month but not sure if you ovulate, your case is not a serious one cos it can be treated. but in the situation that you do not see your monthly cycle at all omg that is when you have to worry more, is very possible to see your monthly cycle regularly but yet one do not ovulate. good luck and I wish you all the best.

  22. Poster, is the breast painful? Hv u had any fever? Do u normally empty ur breast often or it stays full for long periods? It might be mastitis which usu results from clogged ducts due to stasis. U can apply warm compress and may need antibiotics. See a doctor if u can so as to get a better assessment of the problem. Cheers.

  23. Hi poster,
Coincidentally, I had my baby about 2 months ago as well and the exact thing happened to me. Thank GOD I didn't panic because I knew what was happening (I'm a doctor as well).
You should keep trying to feed her with the smaller one. It might take a few days for you to notice any significant change.
For best results, let your baby latch on the smaller one first (for like 3-5 minutes) when very hungry, the "pull" will help send signals for more release. Make sure you alternate between both breasts throughout (more on the smaller one for now, till you notice an improvement).
Don't panic dear, you are doing a great job. GOD bless you

    1. She should actually feed more on the larger breast esp if it is caused by duct clogging or blockage so as to relieve the breast. Infact Expressing the breast milk would be ideal. Feeding on the smaller breast more would only worsen it.
