The Nigerian Defence Academy has reacted to the video that went viral
yesterday showing army Cadets torturing a young man for saying a female officer was beautiful.
According to a statement by the Academy, preliminary investigation so far shows that the incident happened somewhere in Lagos in 2014. The statement reads......
“The attention of The Nigerian Defence Academy has been drawn to a trending video showing Cadets beating some persons. Please note that NDA is

Preliminary investigation has confirmed the incident to have occurred in 2014 somewhere in Lagos while the Cadets were on break. NDA as a responsible
institution saddled with task of producing future military leaders will not in anyway tolerate such unruly and flagrant mistreatment of Nigerians. The NDA under current leadership has addressed most disciplinary loopholes. Further investigation is continuing. Please assist and circulate.

ReplyDeleteI was so pissed off watching this barbaric act! She was called beautiful, which was a compliment, and he got beaten for it? Was she ditched by her boyfriend that she poured out her anger and frustration on him? NDA is claiming it happened in 2014? I don't believe that! The useless fools should be found and they're uniforms stripped from them, because they don't deserve it!
ReplyDeleteWhy was he complimenting her? I don't think what these cadets did was good but it's so like a Nigerian male to belittle Nigerian females and reduce them into something sexual. He probably saw her as "just a woman" and decided to make that comment probably the same way an annoying tout keeps bugging you and trying to get your attention and then curses you out when he sees that you're not interested. I'm a bit divided on this matter. Yes, he might have said "beautiful" 1.) we don't know the manner in which it was said it 2.) (lord forgive me for this o) but we can all see from the video circulating that the female cadet isn't exactly the "typically beautiful" type. And I'm sure she knows that too. There must have been some other insinuations in his comment. Usually when some random guy passes a comment like that just walking past you on the road, he means " you're shaggable" or "bet I can sleep with you someday" or anything on that line and train of thought. He must have seen her as a "mere woman" like all others he bugs every now and then on the roadside, she must have picked up on that and hence the reaction. A male officer would not have been addressed as such. Nigerians, especially the men need to learn to respect and regard the law whether the representative is male or female.
DeleteI don't like the police force, I don't like the way military officials treat civilians in the country and I am in no way sticking up for them but I'm a woman first and knowing Nigerian men, I think the female cadet felt sexualised instead of being regarded just like her male counterparts and I do not support degradation of women on any level.
I just voiced my own opinion on this and I'm entitled to it. If you don't like it, fine. But if you decide or try to have a fit under my comment and curse me out, may it fall back heavily on you a thousand fold. Amen! :D

At NDA the female officers are the worst,this one is actually very very gentle.They will beat you to coma, during one short course training , something like this allegedly happened.One of us was looking at a female officers lustfully (and yes ....those Hausa cadets are fiiiine) so... she and a few other female officers took him to the guard room .when we saw him a few days later we could not recognize him ...he was begging to be killed.the reason is that they themselves are allegedly enjoyed repeatedly without their consent.
