    8. TGW,pls, how can tomatoes be stored in the freezer?. Do you need to blend it first?

      Delete
    9. Anon 12:04, first thing is to select & separate the very hard fresh ones, wash those thoroughly & bag them then put in d freezer. The not so hard & soft ones, wash, blend, boil, then put into bowls & then in d freezer. I normally reserve the best of the best for the fridge for everyday slicing for eggs, noodles etc.

    10. Thanks Teddy!

That bagging is d best method. But note that u can only use it for stew or sauce as d tomatoes go soft and watery when defrosted.

Alternatively,u can blend all d soft ones and bag it and leave for some hours so as to drain d tomatoe water/juice.
      After that,u just bag It.

Some people blend and fry d tomatoes too.den wen dey wanna make d stew, all dey do is boil d chicken and continue from dere.if u ask me,I feel dis method Isn't as fresh as it ought to be. LolZ

But if u ask me,washing and bagging them or putting in big buckets is d best.

Like Teddy already said, bring out d very hard ones u can use for eggs, yam sauce and salads.refrigerate this ones.

      *waves* Hiiii Teddy Boo-Bae!

@ Asoge there are two things I pray my tongue never touches:
      1,Honey.
      2,Tomatoe Juice.

    Not necessarily.
It may seem like good news for now as the prices are low but if nothing is done to stem the waste and encourage the farmers, a lot of them will go into other crops next planting season with the mindset that tomato farming doesn't pay.

If that happens, na 20k per basket dem go sell as demand will be higher than supply.

Who's the minister in charge of of Agriculture and Nat. Resources? This is the time to stop import of tin tomatoes and start producing 'good quality' Nigerian made tomato purée.
Any little food import stopped will help our naira as it will reduce the dollar requirement of the country.

    2. Gbamest!!!! You are very correct, the minister should step in and help the farmers device way to preserve the surplus tomatoes.

    3. 32k!!! You see am?
The problem is that those in power have refused to have foresight.

The masses are only concerned about today, everyone's rejoicing about cheap tomatoes now but not looking into the future.

      God help us.

  21. Good. Since dollars ran away from Nigeria, we can get into agriculture and do something. The APC magicians oya oooo come an do something for us. Propaganda party

  22. we are unfortunate to find ourselves amongst talk talk politicians cum ministers. this is the time to act for the ministry of agriculture. measures should be put in place IMMEDIATELY to preserve the farmers tomatoes to avoid waste. Also, reasons why we have these kind of increase in tomato harvest should be noted and applied more. Atleast Nigeria will have a decrease in importation of coloured stuff called tin tomato. #buymadeinnigeriagoods to save the naira
