Amaechi May Stay Away From Government After His Ministerial Appointment

Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says he might stay away from government at the end of his current appointment.

Speaking at a meeting on corruption organised by the ministry of justice, the former speaker and governor of Rivers state lamented the “deliberate attempt” to link public office holders to corruption.

Denying the allegations of corruption against him, Amaechi said while in Rivers, he was transparent and did not embezzle money meant for the people.
He also denied the allegation of Nyesom Wike, his successor, that he received over N3.1 trillion during his tenure as the state’s number one citizen.

“I feel that after this ministerial appointment, I should do everything possible to stay away from government because in spite of all the forms of transparency I introduced in government, one man could begin to tell lies to Nigerians and Nigerians believe him,” he said.

“The governor of Rivers state said I squandered N3 trillion. I did not receive up to N1.8 trillion as governor both from IGR and funds from federal allocation. So, how could I have squandered money I did not even receive in the first place? You can see the politics of lies and lies.”
Amaechi said transparency in the use of public funds was a major factor during his administration.

He said as governor, the people of Rivers  were briefed periodically on how funds were being utilized, adding that the state became the first to implement the bureau of public procurement (BPP) act which helped in putting government’s activities under scrutiny.

  16. What a blessing. You and your bat looking wife should stay away from government. You neither have understanding of governance nor the humility to SERVE people. You are a psychophant who has allowed his quest for personal vendetta to engulf his people. We are in flames in rivers state. I hope God locks you up in gehena

  18. its a lie jare. the man has no skills or job experience to do anything else other than politics. we saw his cv when he was going for ministerial training. never worked in any other field, never run a business, so how can he retire? he's only saying this because the 'change administration' is not easy at all on all of them that used to steal public money!!!

  19. what's he talking about? he's a saint who didn't steal and wike is a thief? NA LIE!!!. all of dem na the same!!! amaechi messed up river state and created whatever monster wike has become. if amaechi had sought peace and unity among his people, probably the governorship would have been zoned to another part of river state. please he should shut it!
