FG Allegedly Sacks,Demotes 22 Directors And GMs In FAAN

There was palpable anxiety at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), yesterday, over the alleged sack and demotion of no fewer than 22 directors and general managers of the agency.

A reliable source, in Lagos disclosed that majority of the directors were relieved of their duties while the general managers were demoted.

The source said some of the affected general managers, who were not properly placed in their appointments, were demoted from levels 17 and 16 to levels 10, 12 and 14 respectively.
It was gathered that the restructuring was done by the Ministry of Transport following the recommendations of the Presidential Committee chaired by the Head of Service, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita.

The Minister of State, Aviation, Capt. Hadi Sirika, had said aviation agencies, particularly FAAN and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), were over-bloated.

The committee, in its report, discovered that FAAN had no fewer than 40 general managers and 11 directorates created from existing directorates thereby raising overhead cost immensely.

Similarly, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria(ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), had complained about the inappropriate placements.
They had alleged that some senior management personnel were appointed into sensitive positions through political connections without the prerequisite experience or qualifications.

They alleged that some personnel, who were employed between 2012 and 2013 had just completed their National Youth Service between 2008 and 2010 but were given management positions.

  1. Stella forget about the fact that they sacked them, look at the reasons given, it's stated that they were employed based on some politics...... so probably they don't know how or were not doing their job.

I know it's sad some of them lost their jobs but truth is we have to clean up the system, let them employ capable youths not just old papas and mama!

  2. Hello stellacious Stella. As an insider let me give you the gist. These are the guys Jonathan brought in from outside they are not career professionals a lot of them were not qualified of course na political appointees them be na. Imagine the GM finance who is the son of a pdp political leader is 33 years and has no professional qualification which is a requirement to occupying that position. Also, he had little or no experience. So it's actually good news cos it's good riddance to bad rubbish. So please change am to great news

  8. If they would restructure and then employ people like us that don't have political fathers and mothers, I would be disturbed. But since Na dia children go still de recruited, I no care. Make I wait on my God.

  9. The rot in FAAN is nothing to write home about. If sacking incompetent hands and replacing them with competent ones will make the system good again I'm all for it.
As long as the sack is not political I don't see anything wrong there.

  10. Please they should sack Accident investigation bureau commissioner, Felix Abali, frustrating staffs with his incompetence and lack of productivity, he can hardly boast of any achievement since he started leading the agency. Units that need staffs he won't employ because he doesn't want excess hands in the pot, he'll claim no money but he will bring in expensive contract staffs that cost 3x than a civil servant. He used tyranny to bring in Ben Okewu, a level 12 staff and put Ben in level 15 as head of HR when there are 2 staffs in level 14/15 about to be promoted to Ben's level just because Ben knows people in ministry of aviation. FG please sack Felix Abali and demote Ben, they're part of the rot in our system.
