Worst Job Interviews Ever...

‎We all must have at different points in our lives, witnessed the tension and fear associated with a lot of interviews, especially for positions or jobs we want pretty bad.

Some men and women have decided to share their worst experiences so far in interviews ‎and some of them are just hilarious.

One man who had been chewing gum ahead of his interview couldn't locate a bin before he met his prospective boss so he panicked and spat it into his hand.
When his boss greeted him, he shook the hand with the gum in and was left with sticky gloop in his palm.

Another man turned up at his interview on Monday morning to realise the lady screening him for the job was the woman he'd had a one night stand with that Saturday.
One candidate was asked if he considered himself to be a punctual person but mistook the question and replied 'well I'm not a grammar Nazi or anything.'
Another eager hopeful revealed: 'I was at a job interview and the employer asked for my driver's licence.

'As I pulled it out a condom fell on the floor. And she saw it.'
And one aspiring job hunter posted they injured their interviewer. They wrote: 'My sister told me to give a strong handshake at my job interview to show that I'm confident, I ended up shaking too hard and hit my interviewer's elbow on the table.'

One man was asked the age-old interview question: 'if you could be any animal, what would you be?' to which he panicked and answered: 'a turtle because I am really slow and never in a rush.'
In a similar situation, a woman told interviewers that her worst trait was being extremely lazy and often sleeping through her alarm because she didn't like getting up for work.

#any of the situations sound familiar to you? Have you been in an interview and misbehaved before? What was your experience like?

*My worst job interview was when i entered and saw a member of my Church who was one of those who sat in front and was revered.I noticed that they had been watching us from a monitor and my self confidence crashed cos we had been discussing about this particular person cos a few of us from the Church were there for the interview...

I had rounded up about him by saying ''That big head when dey pose for Church with flashy car as if e ho drive them go heaven...''

During the interview he kept staring at every movement i made, his eyes were on my lips. His face was like stone.....I was called for the second stage of the interview but i didnt go back...LOL

I have interviewed many BVs. At least 50. Stella.... things wey my eyes see 😂😂 🙈

But there was one woman who lived in VGC and was working with dangote. She's a BV. Very classy woman. We couldn't match her paycheck. So we swallowed our pride. Dangote dey pay some peoole correct salary oh. Choi!
There was another who worked for a financial institution. They offered her the job but she turned it down at the last minute cos her office made her a mouth-watering offer when she turned in her resignation. Guess she was that good. She called me to apologize. Still have their contacts.

All these BVs that sit down her to trade words, if una see some of them in real life ehn 😂😂 Very timid and shaky. As if they think you want to beat them.
      Let me stop here 💃

When the question was going on,her eyes were all over me,assessing me from my hair down to my shoe and making some funny faces.i think it's very unprofessional, anyway I was not perturbed because I carried my self well and deposited humility at the same time answered the questions well.
She spent time on my case, thinking I would flop.getting up after the interview I almost missed a step.i just breathed a sigh of relief.
Last last sha i got the job and I had fun working for that company.

  24. Stella I have had worst and sad interview sessions. You know those types that will make your confidence drop to zero and will even doubt yourself applying for other jobs.

Fresh was early this year, travelled almost 12 hours from Kogi to Lagos for an interview. It was scheduled to start by 6pm,but it didn't till around 9pm and it was on the island which means I'd have to return to the mainland that night. Well after every every we had the interview with drilling questions as if it was judgment day and in my mind a put up an impressive show only to get a mail from them
Saying "your interview session was interesting but unfortunately we will not be continuing with you as we would prefer an igbo speaking candidate"

I didn't know when I started crying when I remembered the stress, borrowing money to travel and all...
ABI THE ONE I WAS ALMOST KIDNAPPED BUT FOR THE INTERVETION OF GOD ALMIGHTY.

Well I'm still hoping and praying I land my dream job in telemarketing soon. I paid through my nose to get that training and certification. Oluwa pick my call

  25. I went for an interview after just returning back home from abroad, it was a nice company but to get to the area was one wahala. It was in a industrial zone surrounded by slums. So my aunt had to take me and she cautioned me not to dress flashy as they would rob me.

Even before we boarded the bus to go there, at the bus park, they tried to rob me, in the bus too, on my way to the interview (walking from the bus) they tried again. Ahn ahn, what kind of wahala be dis.
Anyway, I got to the interview, min was not there. I just kept thinking how I will.be going to work everyday in that dangerous situation. I sha blundered the interview purposely. When they asked me what I want, I said I need a company car with a driver as I cannot be putting myself in danger when coming to work everyday.

My mum vexed for me, since na she arrange the interview for me.

So they brought tea that morning and asked if they would loved to drink, she was among those that drank the tea, about 2 or 3 persons did not drink, not knowing that these oyibo people were watching people taking the tea.

when it was time for the interview, they called them one by one.. the man said for taking tea that morning when you know it is business, you have failed. that was how those that took tea failed interview. She told her father, the father said longer throat, see how you missed the interview that i had to sought for. She was annoyed ooo because the company was a very big company and you can travel out.

  28. In 2010, i was invited for an interview in a popular bank in Lagos, I really didn't want to go because i didn't want to work in a bank but my elder sis was aware of the interview date so i had to drag myself there.
Fast forward to the interview day , I dressed up with high heels and suit and took a cab to the bank , I stopped at the building before the bank and came down from the cab and two ladies ran up to me ,apparently the back zip of my skirt had ripped open and my butt checks were open for all in VI , they quickly took me to their office and sewed up the skirt , i was sweating and my hands were shaking ,they were just telling me sorry and trying to encourage me.
Well i didn't get the job after all the drama, i wasn't even composed during the interview.

God bless those kind ladies where ever they are today

  29. My very first interview was in 2003, i went with my girlfriend who was also an applicant, there were few positions to be occupied, when we got there, we composed ourselves and when it was time, they called both of us and asked us to write our application in front of the boss.
We were very confident and after that, the boss complimented us, to our greatest surprise, he asked us if we were virgins! I told him yes (because i was a virgin even though i wear makeup and trousers), and my girlfriend (few years older than me and more beautiful than me) said no, that she wasn't a virgin; this man started preaching to my girlfriend even went as far as calling her a devil, we were so upset and i was forced to ask the man why it is so important for us to be virgins before we get the job, and why didn't he wrote on the notice board that the jobs were only available for virgins.
The man was just staring at me while i blink eyes to my girlfriend so we could leave. When we got outside my girlfriend was like; please if the man send you a letter of work resumption, don't turn it down. I gently told my girlfriend that i can never work with such a man.

I was so embarrassed to say the least when I was asked to present what I had on economics and I was like shuo. I knew I would not be called again, and that was the second stage
My second bad experience at interview was with SPDC, after passing the test stage, I was called for SRD, in 2012, SRD was still encompassing the whole stages in one day not like these days that it is moi moi (trust me, I know as I did both), omo, after that community kini part and I went in to ans question, see me that have confidence on a normal day, I was shaking like leaf in harmattan, long story cut short, I was not called and the thing pained me ehn. Though I slayed the presentation part and petroleum engineering answering stages...

  36. Mine has always been pleasant except for one with a female interviewer. After all the necessary introduction on myself, strength and weakness, she asked me why I wasn't married😳. Imagine o! And there were 2 guys in the room; they didn't look stunned at her question, guess she's been saying that to other applicants.

What's the correlation between getting a job and being married? I simply retorted, why are you not dead? She was simply bewildered. I just carried my bag and walked out. She thought she could make me feel bad but I ended up humiliating her in front of the other panelist.

Very demonic place to work. You will work with your blood and water, if you are late by 10 minutes they will deduct #500 from your salary, they will tell you 24 hrs but it's 30/35hrs you will work and you will be expected to resume by 7 o'clock the following day. Nobody ever spend 1/2 years because they hire and fire. Segun Awolowo the MD of DE SKYLINE HOTEL God is watching you, sleeping with small girls old enough to be your grand daughters. Glorified tout.

  42. I will go anonymous on this because there’s no active labour law that fights for employees in Nigeria so its advised I play anonymous.

There’s this aviation company in Ikeja that invited me for an interview. The time for the interview was 12 noon but I got there early enough. My first shocker was that I met people there who came for interview just like me too but we were all asked to sit at the gate house. Note that this company is big, and has a massive reception but we were told to sit at the gatehouse. We all sat. The interview was for 12 noon but as at 3pm, no one came for us. We asked the guard again if he’s sure the management knows this. He replied saying yes, we should just exercise patience. As at 6pm, no one still came for us. This was really devastating as my phone battery was almost dead and I was really hungry. We all were hungry anyway but no one could go out to get food just because we don’t know when exactly we will be called.

As silly as the management is, no one came to tell us anything or say please be patient or something. At 7:50p.m, a lady then came and took us upstairs. We were drained but you know na, we were expected to look calm and smile al lthough. Then we started getting interviewed one after the other. At 15 past 8p.m, I was interviewed in less than 5 minutes. No apologies whatsoever, I was so sad. After 5 stages of interview including medicals, I got the job. Well, one would have said I was lucky but sadly I did not last 2 months there before I resigned. That organization is a deadly place to work in. You will be penalized if you come in 5 minutes past 8 in the morning and this is an organization where employees close 10/11pm – and there is no extra incentive for working overtime. You are required to dress corporate all the time – even on Fridays and public holidays. There is no job security there; you can be laid off anytime. We are not allowed to use our phones during work hours. Someone was sacked right in my presence because he was caught pressing his phone during office hours. There is no exam leave granted to staff that have ICAN or other professional exam. These people who have exam to write have to come in the morning to work then leave few hours to the exam. You can imagine. The mode of conduct in that company is terrible. I left to an organization that pays lower but I have peace of mind – the peace of mind I could never get while working with them.

My very first 'impromptu' interview was January last year, a month before NYSC passing out.it was a position for an account officer at Ibadan electricity distribution company.God, I was too tensed, I was practically shaking, my voice was shaking like I wanted to cry..was asked to how to post a prepaid and postpaid payment into ledgers and I said gibberish..I cldnt even properly define bank reconciliation statement.. In fact I felt like I didn't go to school, felt too stupid... Choi, I can never forget dat experience..dat experience thot me to always prepare for any interview I am being called for.

  46. Funny comments so far. Well, I once went for a job interview where I was asked a certain question and I didn't know what to say after getting all other questions right ooo, but to avoid falling my hands, I decided not to keep mute and blabled one or two things to cover up, but the mistake I made was ending my statement with "and other stuffs like that" and the interviewer repeated after me saying" and other stuffs like that"? I said sorry sir and started laughing. Can you imagine? After laughing for few seconds, I then formed seriousness and they asked the next person to come in, while I was ushered out.
Funny enough, I got a text message from them few days later to resume work and I was like "like seriously? Me wey don conclude say I don fail because I laughed while on a hot seat. Well,I didn't resume work anyway cos the pay was little and the distance was far from my home, meaning that my transport fare and feeding would consume my salary just like that. It didn't worth it jare.

  47. I went for a college of Pharmacy admission interview in US. There were 8 of them in the panel. I claimed that I am 7th Day Adventist (they own the school). Unexpectedly they started bombarding with questions about 7th Day Adventist. See sweat. At a point they asked me what I will do if I am not admitted. I was fed up already. So I told them that I will move on that it is not the end of the world. Their jaws dropped.

  50. Ideato thank you, I classify all that area as CMS. There was this dramatic interview that I attended in 2009. It was for the post of a Marketer in an high tech co. The CEO gave me his mobile phone and asked me to market it to him. Omo, naso I collect the phone (a nokia Nseries), come tell the man say if him throw the phone for ground e no go spoil, that he will just pick up the pieces, couple everything and switch it back on, I also told him that the phone has a feature that detects location. Ikwakwakwakwa. The man was just laughing. Anyone that interviews me always ends up laughing. I'm so interesting to chat with.
The man employed me of course. The company later moved to another location which was too far for me.

  53. Never had to go for an interview because I've been a hustler since day one. Always known that my degree was just a formality to fulfil all righteousness. I belong to the generation of get-from-the-streets. No time to be nobodies pun. I am my own boss!

  56. There was an interview that I attended two months ago in V.Island. It was for 10am, I went very early so that I will be the first person they will interview thinking that by 12pm tops they would have started. I went on an empty stomach and even had to trek part of the distance to save transport fare which I borrowed. Chei, I was the second person to arrive, the interview did not start till 3pm. I was already very hungry and thirsty with dry lips as I could not even afford sachet water of 10naira. The water dispenser at the reception where I sat, I could not touch it for fear of being disqualified for drinking water. When I went in at a few minutes past three and saw 7 people staring at me, I almost fainted, one of them asked if I was sick. I told him no, that I was fasting. Another one said 'all these religious people are so annoying, just look at you, how many questions can you answer in this state?. I was just lookin at them with tears streaming down my face, they just asked me to leave the room. I knew it was over by then, I drank water from their dispenser when I got to the reception, then I begged one of those waiting to be interviewed to help me with 50naira and he gave me 100naira which I used to buy banana on the road and ate before getting home. I still feel sad when I remember that incident. pray God picks my call soon.

    3. Your comment was very descriptive. It made me laugh. But when I got to the end, I felt bad.
As someone who's in HR, my advice is when next you go for an interview, if you see all staff drinking water, my dearest DRINK. If you are asked, say it boldly and calmly that you left home on an empty stomach and you have been delayed and now you're terribly thirsty and hungry.
From your comment I see that you might have confidence issues. No matter what, don't shed tears in an interview. You know why? Sometimes you might be interviewing for a difficult position and an interviewer would be very hard on you to see if you can withstand the real life situation when it pops up. Just keep defending yourself. If they called you an annoying religious person, you should have responded by saying - it's that 'annoyingness' that has brought me far in life and i belive it will take me further. And YES I will do my best in my current state and I can say I'm ready for this interview'. End the statement with a smile.
Their reaction would have been different. Do you get my drift? If you want a job, fight for it. You didn't leave home on an empty stomach to go and cry for some yeye people. So don't do that again. Okay?
      More grace next time dear.

After all the reading and preparation, the interview didn't even last up to 10 mins. Had to wait for almost six hours for a 10 mins interview, but at least I got to do mine that day cos I m sure some persons would still have to return the next day for theirs,we were so many! All these federal govt agencies sef.
