An Urgent Cry For HELP!

This is a cry for help from one of our Blog visitor. Please do something if you you can..

Good day all,

My name is Peace Asoka, a blog visitor, My Valentine shout-out, LRD and other posts have been published on your blog and I wish you would publish this cry for help.

I write on behalf of my younger brother, a 22year old student of Rivers State University of Science and Technology who travelled to Buguma on Saturday for a neighbours grandmother's burial, my elder brother was supposed to go with him but he couldn't because someone had to stay back to tend to the fish business my dad runs in the house.

Towards evening they started calling my younger brother's phone to find out why he wasn't back home buy his phone was switched off until Sunday when my dad got a call from the neighbour that my brother and 4 of his friends were arrested my the Rivers State Anti cult Police on their way back home, the car they took to Buguma for the burial couldn't contain them so they decided to use boat back to Ph so they boarded a motorcycle(okada) to take them to the jetty.

On reaching there they alighted from the Okada and gave the man 500naira note, the man said he didn't have change and asked them to look for change and an argument ensued between them and I think the police saw them and instead of making peace proceeded to hijack them all to the station and now they are claiming they are cult boys.

Please how can they call argument with Okada man in broad day light 'cult activities'??

My brother and his friends have been crying out that they are not cultists, even showed them their school ID cards but these monsters who call themselves police have been torturing the poor boys with machete for them to confess, there is an injury on my brothers back but I couldn't get a picture as proof as we were not allowed in with our phones. They are still in cell.

Now they are requesting 150,000 to bail them. My dad has not been able to eat since Sunday, I even left my husband's house with my little kid to come here since Sunday.
Also I have heard that is their new mode of operation now, a neighbour even said they grabbed her son who she sent on an errand and she had to pay 15,000 to have him released.

My question is how do we stop this menace, how can people who are meant to protect the masses turn around to do all these indiscriminate arrests just to fill their pockets with money and no one is doing anything to stop them.

Please I beg you to help us reach out to your blog members who can aid the release of these young men and sanction these corrupt practice of these men.
I will get a picture as soon as he is released from cell but I attached a picture of my brother I got from his facebook page for all to see, his name is Princewill Progress Jumbo.
I'm also a lawyer but I'm still serving my nation and I have little or no connection on how to go about this issue, I feel so down and helpless at this moment.

My number is 08069124544, my father's number is 08037067878. They are held at the Swift Operation Squad beside Rivers State secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Expecting to hear from anyone who can help soon, thanks and God bless you.
Peace Asoka.

    3. I hate policemen so much.
Now what they do in Abj is,they go to clubs and hang around and watch and people going out once they sense you guys are in some numbers and driving out they follow you guys til they get to a lonely spot.
Without a patrol vehicle, using an unpainted cab, they flash you lights saying stop is the police if you don't they give you a hit chase and say you are getting arrested for refusing to stop.
And if you stop right away?they they start searching and causing unnecessary drama.
Saying your mouth smells of alcohol like the fuck I won't drink in club? even when you are not drunk they want to pin you on drunk while driving.
This is very sad, we had it hot with some of them a few days ago, there were even SARS.

    2. Hmm if I recount my own experience in the hands of NPF 3weeks ago. Some 3sundays ago,my big sis,her fiance and myself decided to pay my cousin a visit to introduce her hubby to be to my cousin and wife. We got to his house, stayed for about 2hours. When we were about leaving,my cousin offered to drop us off at Rumuigbo junction. As soon as we got there, before he got a spot to park,5 policemen with guns just jumped out of their car. An unbranded passat and asked us to get down from the vehicle. Ordered my cousin to go back into the car and they started searching. They said my cousin is a kidnapper, that they've been looking for him blah blah. This guy is a surgeon at UPTH oo. They searched our bags, found nothing. The next thing they said they'll arrest my cousin that we should come to Sars office tomorrow to see him if we wish. They ordered us to leave or they'll shoot and asked my cousin to drive. Two of them joined in his car and they drove off. We waited for them to move away a little, got a taxi and followed them. We did that to be sure they're actually policemen and to be sure they were going to Sars office like they said. Lo and behold my people, these guy didn't go to any office oo. They kept driving round town with this poor guy. We were making calls, calling our family members to let them know what was happening while monitoring them. They kept driving and stopping for more than 1 1/2 hours oo. My cousin wasn't picking his calls. They eventually released him after threatening to shoot him if he doesn't settle them. He insisted he didn't do anything wrong that his car is registered neither is he a kidnapper. Told them to take him to their office they refused. At a point,we started praying in the car, called our pastor too and he was praying. God intervened and they let him go without paying. I HATE POLICE WITH EVERY FIBRE IN ME. I pray someone takes up this case for you guys. Ignore any error abeg, who English epp! Sorry for the epistle.

  16. Pls petition the IG and commissioner of police. If you can try and go to his office. There are still some reasonable senior officers. You can talk to one when u get to the office. But first things first petition the IG, try to find out from your brother the names of the officers that arrested them and those that tortured them.

    1. You are the only sensible one here. The rest be talking about hate, hate and more hate without suggestion a reasonable way out. These bad police officers were bad and evil minded civilians before they enlisted into the police. It wasn't the police that made them bad. Why won't the police be filled with bad and wicked people when you good and humane people refuse to enlist. Should there be vacuum? I remember many years ago when people were approached in my village to enlist and all 'nice' people said tufiakwa. One guy who had always had a running battle with his father for always stealing his father's money said and I quite 'kam ga baa police ga riri bribe'. Today he is an officer in the police and he went up north to enlist. No society gets a police better than it, belieeeve that!

  35. First of all, poster u can use other social media means like twitter, tweet and ask friends to keep retweeting in fact tell us ur twitter handle here on Stella's blog and we will help out til it gets to the appropriate authority.
Secondly, you are even a lawyer, if you have ever worked in any firm be it as an intern or extern go there and ask the boss to help you, go to the station or wherever your brother is been kept am sure that once he have legal representation that bail money will reduce drastically because he did nothing wrong.
Thirdly, poster go and get a lawyer if you can't help him as a lawyer.

    1. I'm serving with the Ministry of justice o, under the solicitor general/permanent secretary's office, she took me to see the doc (the state department that prosecutes people) but they had already sentenced him in their mind. Once it's cult related, nobody wants to hear again. Even when you tell them your family member is innocent, they say "you don't know what they do behind you"

      Delete
    2. Cult related without evidence? Sentence them in their mind? Then they should charge them to court so we hear what the court says cos only the court can convict and sentence.
