Wife Of Murdered US Based Nigerian Insists She Had No Hand In His Death

Wife of a murdered America-based Nigerian, Chuks Okebata, has insisted she has no hands in the death of her husband.

Okebata was kidnapped in Mbieri town, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state last Thursday.

It had been reported that the indigene of Umuduruorie in Umuomumu Mbieri, upon his abduction, was taken to Atta Junction in the Ikeduru LGA, where he was murdered in cold blood.

But after his abduction and subsequent assassination, a video emerged on Facebook showing him and his wife in a heated conflict of words, where she had allegedly threatened to deal with him, calling the police on her husband.

Concerned persons pointed accusing fingers at her, saying his abduction and death came soon after her threats.

She has, however, come out openly to narrate her own side of the story.

She claimed she is innocent of her husband’s death and has no hand in it.

In her narration, she categorically stated that she called the cops on her husband for her own safety because he constantly subjected her to physical abuse.

One Amanda Chisom shared the deceased’s wife’s story on Facebook:

“My own side of the story – Amanda, I once came to you about my husband and his incessant abuse and cheating. Yes I am the wife of the man who was assassinated, and I am just distraught. I do not even know where to start but it is only right I tell my own side of the story.

“I am innocent, God is my witness that I did not kill my husband or the evil that my husband’s family is portraying me to be, yes my sister in-law posted that video to make me look evil but the part she did not tell anybody was that I was calling the police to save me because he always beat me up and I was told to call the police whenever he started and that was exactly what I was doing, from the video you would see that I did not fight him or answered him. Should I have allowed him to kill me?

“Amanda, we have been married for 13 years since I was 19, it has been beating upon beating, I have gone through surgeries because of beating he gave me. How can I kill my husband, we live together, till the day he left for Nigeria, I packed his things, how could I kill him.

“Who do I know to order a hit on the father of my children? I have no interest in his properties as suggested after all we built everything together. God knows I am innocent. He went to Nigeria and was going to club spraying dollars and showing off, revealing his locations.

“They want to pin my husband’s death on me, my husband was not assassinated. He was kidnapped, because he is a military man he is always with a gun and when he shot to death one of the kidnappers, they shot him. Why is my family leaving out information about what happened and pinning it on me?

“I never threatened him to kill him; I am a working woman with a paying job and have no reason to kill him because of properties. All I just want is peace to mourn and raise my children. You can confirm my story from those people in my home town.

“My husband was careless in a country with high rate of crime and was kidnapped, if he had not shot one of the robbers, all we would have been talking about is paying ransom not death.

“Amanda why would I kill the father of my kids, why would I choose his death over a divorce if things were that bad?

“I have two boys, who will help me raise them? I am completely innocent of all the allegations. I have endured all this years through his beating and cheating and I did not leave or kill him, why would I do it now? All I ask is that I am left to mourn in peace and the killers found and prosecuted.

“Nne biko help me. I’m an innocent victim here. I love my husband and I’m still in tears. I’m mourning him and people are accusing me wrongly. My children are crying daily.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the killing of Okebata at the weekend, had said the command had commenced investigation into the case with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

That woman is innocent, there is no prove pointing to her as the killer.

The man's stupid sister should rest n stop raising dust over nothing.

When he went to clubs in owerri n was spraying dollar, he forgot he was in Nigeria n that many people are angry n bitter n can even kill to ease their frustration.

Did you also listen to the part where she said" you keep saying I did this, I did that when you weren't even here last night" meaning he didn't sleep at home. And to buttress the lady's point, didn't you hear where the son said "good to see you dad" and he responded???...
There is always two sides to a story!!

    10. I watched the videos and there is no where the woman exchanged words heatedly with the man. Yes, he is dead but in that video he was lousy, especially when he tried to drag the children into their conflict. He taunted his wife and I was angry after watching the video. The person who released the videos isn't doing the deceased or the children any good.
Parents leave your children out of your conflicts. Allow them be children. If you are angry at your spouse, take it outside or wait till the children are not close to you. Haba!

    2. The reason I believe her is because I've seen a similar case to this year's ago.

Husband lived in the U.S with his wife. The wife was the very outgoing type that used to frequent Nigeria a lot. She was one of the so called "lagos big girls" at the time. So at some point, she visited Nigeria as usual and she was said to have gone to a club against her husband's wish. According to the husband, he spoke to his wife that very night and she claimed that she was home. Only for her to get killed in the early hours of the morning on her way back from the club with her boyfriend. Yes, with her boyfriend. That was how the whole gist came out upon investigation, that she was a philandering wife whom everyone knew was never faithful to her husband.

She was such a pretty lady and she got all the attention from men. After her death, her husband was accused by her influential family to be the one who sent assassins to kill her. They said he prolly discovered his wife a cheat and decided to end it all by killing her. This was what the wife's family claimed.

They even took her kids and vowed never to allow their father set eyes on them again. He was in the U S while his kids were held 'hostage' by his in laws in Nigeria. Everyone pointed accusing fingers at him and he was tagged a murderer. He had to get the American embassy in Nigeria involved. Child custody battle began. They had unending court appearances. But because the late wife;s father was a justice, he used his influence and affluence to frustrate the poor husband and the case was dragged for so many years. I know some of you who know this story will know the people I'm taking, because this matter was all over the place back then. Only it happened when blogs and online news didn't exist. That's why I can relate to this lady up there. God help her

      OK bye

  13. I saw the video of the kids crying also and it broke my heart.
Why live in a war zone in the name of marriage. Once husband and wife turn to sworn enemies then that marriage must end.
See the type of aggressive and unhealthy environment they are raising their kids. Why get kids involved in ur bruhaha. How irresponsible. Its situations like this that breeds boys that grow up to also bring upon DV to his wife. Becos he is used to the chaos. I hope there's isn't their case, as these boys seem like loving boys that are cut between love for their mother or father.
I don't know what to make of this case, but I wont side that woman. I wont even side the man either. The man is wrong, so is the woman. But I don't think she is a MURDERER, an aggressor probably. But I doubt she had a hand in his death.
Also parents shld try and let their kids mature, finish school before embarking on marriage. She married at 19, what does a 19yr old know. And she's even in a foreign country.
The things that happen with this kind of marriages is that the man thinks he owns you cos he brought you to US.
iv heard of so many cases like that, I even know of a lady In Arizona brought to the US at 18 to marry someone. They didn't date, he just saw her in d village, liked her and family started wedding plans.
This guy promised to send her to school in US, he never did. Now we are hearing he beats her slightest thing, locks her indoors, even denys her food when they fight.

  14. Heya...it's easy for his family to pin it on her after all she wasn't happy in the marriage and naija would have been the place to kill him.
But soldier come soldier go. People get married and wake up the next morning to say that they made a mistake in marrying (in the abroad)
It's that easy and there's no stigma attached to it. Obvious she wanted out but death would have been the last thing on her mind.
But the guy was callous o.

Suffered gave everything up for him. What did this man pay her back with? Abandoned her and the kids immediately he got his citizenship went to naija enjoying his life this woman got sick she didn't even have his number finally she died 3 months ago. This man just went on Facebook and wrote the mother of his kids is dead nothing more. We were expecting him to come home immediately he heard she was dead but no he didn't he left those kids to the mercy of their old grandmother.we called him to give our condolences and ask when he's coming back you know what this bastard said? ' na her luck be that i don collect wetin I want from her na she Know I don get another woman I go carry am come to take care of the kids. More than 3 months dis woman died he didn't come he abandoned these kids so tell me if some of these naija men don't deserve whatever they get. Being wicked even to oyinbo woman who was good to you . 18. I read the woman's side of the story before I watched the four snippets of videos the victim's sister posted then I went to view the man's Facebook profile.
May the true killers of the man be found...but this is my own 2cents...
The man was a manipulative and emotional abuser..the kids were crying because of what he was telling them. There is no kid that a father would tell that his mother wants to send him to jail that would not cry. He tried to manipulate the kids to make himself look good and paint his wife the demon. The beginning of the video the wife was calmly telling him he did not sleep in the house the night before so something must have happened.. And the time from then to when she started calling the cops was some while cos she had changed clothes. Why did he not leave the house initially and return when her anger must have cooled down? Why did he chose to film his wife instead of appealing for settlement of whatever caused the issue? How long ago was that video made? Cos the victim's sister is making us believe the event happened the day before he was killed. Meanwhile, naija Facebook judge and jury have declared the woman guilty even though she is thousands of kilometers away in the US and the man was murdered in Nigeria.
His Facebook profile said he was single so he was parading himself as a single dad and using that to fuck women in the US and even throwing that fact in his wife's face.
May he find rest wherever he is, but the woman is innocent until proven guilty.

An examplr of a horrible parent is the one that drags his/her young kids into whatever mess the parents are going through. He was even coaching one of the kids, telling him to tell his teacher this and that. A parent should never put a child on that position. The video also cut off when he started yelling st her that she's crazy etc. only God knows what was cut out there. And the kids were even in good spirits at that point, you could see them walking around the house downstairs and playing. But in the next video, the atmosphere was tense, the clothes the woman wore had been changed and she called the police. The guy was trying to paint the woman badly but his faults in the incidence seemed to have been edited out. Why was that video cut out when he started getting loud and aggressive?....... Just Saying

  20. I watched that video and this is my honest opinion

    1. I do not think domestic violence was involved in that marriage. That video showed the wife yelling and the man tryibg to be with his kids. The wife kept saying I'll call the cops on you and he asked her, what would you say I did? What are you going to tell them I did. I did nothing to you.. She kept saying how he wasn't home last night and I feel for one they must have had a misunderstanding and he left home to sleep some where else..

    2. The kids were happy to see the father. They kept saying good to see you pops. They wanted to hug their dad and stay with him but they wife kept making them for sit down and leave the dad. He told them to go to school and tell their teachers what mummy is doing, so they can be with him. If he was an abusive husband, he won't tell the kids to go to. School and tell the teachers what mummy is doing..

    3. The wife is throwing domestic violence to us because she knows Nigerian women wouldn't look at any other thing again and start swearing for the man. The man is Joanne tondefend himself. He is gone. So he can't say I didn't do this or she did this..

For all we know, she might have contacted someone to help her arrange assassins for the husband. Knowing she will get away with it if she does it in Nigeria. Then again she might have not done it..

Also Ill like to know how she knew he shot one of the kidnappers before he was killed. Did the kidnappers contact her to tell her this?? I'll honestly like to know..

Una sabi lie. So the kidnappers will leave the dead body of one of their member. Won't that make the police catch them fast..

That woman is innocent..if they really want to pin it on her, they should report to the FBI so that her calls and social media account be traced to see who she communicated with lately.they cant just accuse someone without evidence..i second the person that said the woman shldnt go to Nigeria for the burial or even I she want to go she shld carry mopol and leave once the burial has ended to avoid stories that tickles the bum bum

I'm kinda familiar with the family and she has been beaten severally but she stayed cos of the kids. The man was a chronic cheater and was flaunting it in her face

    1. That's how it is here in the name of women supporting women..

My question is what if there was no violence in that marriage? But because he is dead he can't defend himself.

What if there only issue was infidelity because the man was a chronic cheat.

All of a sudden people are believing the woman because she spoke about domestic violence forgeting she might be lying in that aspect..

For all u know, she could have killed him, she might not have killed him..

A spouse is always the first to be suspected when one of them turns out dead.

    2. Well you can't blame women. Men have dealt with them badly e.g. the subject in question and they have had enough. Men have to see their wives as human beings with emotions and not stones that can take every hit.

  30. I watched the video. One video cannot explain the whole marriage. Couples fight. If there was a video of vicious fights in several marriages, we would conclude the participants are miserable. However, this is not always the case.
Whoever put out that video was just being malicious. Why not hand it over to the cops if you think it is evidence. Moreover, the video doesnt even paint the man as without blame. He called the mother of his kids mad in front of the kids. Then he went ahead to use emotional tactics on the kids. Who wants to see their parents in jail? It looks odd that she called the cops on him, but for him to be willing to leave without contest, it means they have had issues before. This is not the first incidence of calling the cops.
Please I am not saying she didn't send the killers. All I am saying is that facebook court holds no water.
If I were her, I will forget about the house built in Nigeria. I will just face my kids in America. Let them keep it.

  31. He is a US Army Veteran and he was assassinated?

Let's look at it from another angle?

Could it be he was assassinated because they are afraid he might leak some of the army secret of US.

This is not the first time I am hearing that a US Army veteran was assassinated in Nigeria when he returned home. It is easier to carry out their deeds in a country with low security.

An American woman would hv asked for divorce in such toxic situation but not an African women. This is why I want to marry Oyibo woman very civilized people.

  34. Why is it that most of you lady's are very biased on any issue that has to do with Nigeria men? The level of blind support most of you dish out is alarming. A woman with such statement have a questionable character. Most of you have brothers, would you be happy if such faith befall yours? Do you think the family of the guy is just accusing her knowing fully well how overbearing a typical Igbo woman can be? Common guys.. It is good to support your fellow women but let those of you that feel she is totally innocent face similar faith his family is facing.
The Nigeria police need to consult with FBI to search her phones, laptops,iPads and other communications lines, bank transfers in the past two years. She is a culprit going by her attitude in that video and her above statement. The marriage was already broken going by the video and animosity displaced by both adults in front of their kids.
I don't think a man she hate so much in that video will sleep with her in same bed before he travelled. She do not need to be in Nigeria to commit murder. It is all about 3rd party arrangements. She even claimed to have packed his luggage before he travelled.
    Lies...
Packing husbands luggage before his trip do not exempt you from a crime. African people are not even smart when it comes to crime like this so finding her guilty of the crime is very easy with through investigation.
Then some say he was splashing $$$ in the club.. and so what? Other Nigerians like Emoney do not splash money? Have they been killed? Splashing money is a typical African thing. Saying he was kidnapped might be the tool used to commit the crime as everyone knows kidnapping is rampant in Nigeria.
    She talked about domestic violence.
You people believe such? That guy was in the US army and a veteran. If she was abused or had a domestic violence case, he won't come close to that house talk more of entering the house to play with his kids. He will be sent out of US army and all benefits withdrawn, he will face prosecution. He will not be active in the military or continue to work with them up to his death. Such accusation is ridiculous from his wife. America army does condone domestic violence. His wife is not a good wife, wether she is involved or not she is not a good wife going by her actions in that video.
You see her aggression, typical of most Igbo women. Power intoxicate them especially when they know they have right abroad. A lot of Nigeria men are faced with such women abroad. This is the reason why Nigeria men in America murder their wives daily.
I am not in support of any abuse but to support wife because of her gender is very wrong. As most of you think Nigerian men are no good, so anything about them is good for them forgetting you have sons and brothers.

    2. Bia nwoke hardly any woman will be bad to a man that treats her good. If your wife has a complaint listen to her and try to reach a compromise with her. Instead, a man will choose to let his ego stand in the way. If this woman was your mother and sister, what would you tell her?

    4. Especially in this blog, because this blog is made up of mostly women, it is difficult to have an unbiased view about men and women issues, it must surely go in one direction in the name of women supporting women. I am a woman, but I can't support the treatment that she gave to her husband. I live in the US, but we Africans living here still frown at this type of treatment even though their law enables it. There was no domestic violence involved in that video, why throw your husband out for christ's sakes? Can't both of you talk? Can't issues be resolved amicably for the kid's sake? Must we exercise that western privilege? If he was beating her, then it makes sense to call police, but here's a man that his kids are happy he came home and you want him out of the house. He probably went on night duty because he's a crime scene investigator. The woman didn't say "you slept in a woman's house" she only said "you weren't even here last night" probably, he came back and was accusing her of something, all she could do was take her kids away and call the cops on him.
