UNILAG Lecturer Asks Students Who Could Not Spell To Kneel Down...

A University of Lagos lecturer, whose name was given as Mr Ogunkunle, has been called out by his students for reportedly asking students who couldn't spell a certain word to kneel down, and raise their hands.

According to Zeekyboy, the lecturer who rarely comes to class, allegedly spends most of his time threatening and sending students out of a class they're supposed to be in.

The incident reportedly happened during Geography class in
the Faculty of Arts. Here's what he wrote;

Quote
“It’s not as if this is the norm in Unilag. But this particular lecturer has been terrorizing us.

We have other lecturers who behave well, but this particular man is just something else. I mean why will you tell adults like this to kneel and raise up hands, just because they were not able to spell a particular word.

This lecturer rarely comes to class. When he comes he spends most time sending students out and threatening them. He is just a disgrace to this wonderful university. We have very brilliant, decent lectures who respects us for who we are.

We are please begging the university to help caution lecturers like this so that our great Unilag won’t be a laughing stock amongst other universities.”

    1. You students are a disgrace to the nation at large. If I'm dt lecturer i will do worse. Why waste time on students dt are not ready to learn? Even you this writer, you need to kneel down and crawl. Your write up is embarrassing.

I don't mind falling his course
    I won't do that shit

The lecturer should be cautioned by his superiors or beaten by some students to reset his brain back to default
    Silly man.

  11. I don't even find it strange that they can't spell words.

During NYSC, i can boldly tell you that 80% of my co-corps members could not write a letter or express themselves in a sentence without grammatical flaw.

Therefore, i have come to the conclusion that if by the end of primary school and early years of Secondary school you cannot write or speak without blunder, there MIGHT be no hope for you again.
Because the University is not a learning ground for the basics of spoken and written English.

Do I find the punishment wrong? Maybe, afterall it still won't help them get better with spellings.

      Geography has complex words.

    1. It's not a joke, I'm an alumni. he lectured me. Dats how he is, very high handed and sadistic fellow. He lectures biogeography. And some of the words in that course are very complex. He's a mean fellow!

  13. Shame on you for not spelling correctly.

  14. The lecturer is sick in the head what stops him from sending them out? Flogging adults in class as if they are in primary school

  16. The man thinks he is a primary/secondary school teacher.

As for the students, we learn every day, there are some words you just forget how to spell them. Even some three/four letter Words.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What were they asked to spell?

Let them kneel for all I care, its greatly appalling the breed of graduates we have in this dispensation.

The other day 2 female corps members with all their packaging and make up could not spell "Yoghurt"; the word that my 3 years old son will spell without breaking any sweat.

    Too bad!!!

  18. I graduated from UNILAG and i passed through Mr Ogunkunle's classes. He is a hard task master and a genius in his field(the only lecturer in UNILAG that majored in that field).
He is capable of doing such but i am certain he must have found them wanting to treat the so called adults as kids...in my view its shameful that an undergraduate finds it difficult to spell a word!!

    1. I'm equally a graduate, and I passed through him. I don't agree with u dude.there can be some very complex words in biogeography. I'm not saying it's an xcuse not to spell them, but u must agree that he is indeed a high handed and sadistic fellow. How can almost half (50 percent) of ur students carry over a course. When they are not all blackheads, some of dem are even on 2-1. He's just a sadist, even other lecturers in d dept of geography dread him. I'm so disappointed u can even defend such a fellow. Smh.

    1. Trust me that particular course biogeography (gry 208/308) has some complex words that even u and others that are blabbing can't even spell at first, without looking it up..im graduated from that dept so I know better. D dude is just high handed and sadistic. A man that intentional fails students, and derives pleasure form doing so. You know nothing!!!

  20. But why can't they spell? After they'll say 'lecturer failed me'

  21. Geography is in social sciences dept.Although I'm not sure if they moved with the social sciences when they stopped sharing the same building with the faculty of arts.Having said that I wonder what manner of students & lecturers are in the universities these days. Why would undergrads not know how to spell, what sort of foundation did they get in terms of pry & sec schs? The person who sent this in should be asked if a lecturer not coming to lectures regularly is an excuse for their inability to spell. As for the lecturer,I don't blame you.

  24. Though this is wrong but they deserve it. How can a university student make mistake in spellings that even a high school student will not. These days university is just a joke to some people. I was privileged to mark some 400 level students script and i was shocked. I wonder how some of them got there.

  27. Only kneeling down? Infact, they should roll on the floor and get kneaded. Bunch of semi illiterates. If you are in the university and you can't spell or speak good English, when will you learn? Infact how did you guys get the admissions in the first place to get into the university?

  28. That lecturer is something else, he lectured me in my undergraduate days, am not surprised he is still the same, he doesn't come to class early, and when he comes to class nobody comes in to the class after him. In my days about four or five departments takes the course at the same time and the man will still be calling attendance in class after the class, and many of his students fails his course. Ogunkunle change your ways.............

  31. Many undergraduate don't know how to spell,it's appalling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh please , I'm a student of unilag myself . Truth be told , so many of these students can't communicate effectively in English. You have to see even the finest girls or biggest boys and once they open their mouths, it's a goddamn tsunami. Majority of them didn't attend very good schools + the fact that (no tribalism intended) they are used to speaking only Yoruba at home. Sometimes , you'll see a computer science or even English student explaining academic work to themselves in Yoruba . How??? Coupled with the fact that they love jenifa's diary die. They are just not willing to learn. If you've never come across them you won't understand . Please always send your children to good primary and secondary schools, it's an investment that I thank my parents for everyday. Because matter of fact , some things can never be learnt in university. The level and manner of thinking can never be the same. I know somebody who said after school she wants to open shop and sell rice and groundnut oil and frozen food in 3 freezers. Like that is legitimately her ambition in this life. Not like I have anything against that oh but as a university undergrad, I believe your dreams should go higher than that so that if you don't get there, at least you'll be in a decent position . I pray for myself and you guys should pray for me too that I reach the peak of all I intend to do with my life- no mediocrity allowed
