The declaration was contained in a letter dated 4th April, 2017, addressed to the Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, through the Federal Ministry of Information & Culture.
The letter reads in part: “The Federal Executive Council (FEC), at its meeting of Wednesday, 1st February, 2017, has approved the adoption of Mondays and Wednesdays of every week as Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days as part of measures to uplift the nation’s culture and promote Made-in-Nigeria textile products”.
Buhari further directed that a presentation on the Made-in-Nigeria Campaign be made to the National Economic Council to secure the buy-in of State Governments.
As a follow-up to the letter, the Minister of Information & Culture, Lai Mohammed, asked the Management of NICO to provide a comprehensive proposal on how to effectively implement the policy in a manner that would encourage all Nigerians to conveniently observe the Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days.

Some manage to buy 1200naira Ankara, sometimes they share 6yards for 6children, sometimes husband takes 4yards and wife 2yards or 3 yard each, all in all tailor will charge all party concern. 1200naira Ankara, 5000naira tailor charge. My Bank allows staff to wear Ankara all through the week if you want. As long as it's not iro and buba or boubou. It's an international Bank btw.
As much as I don't support this, I want to say it isn't only Ankara that is made in Nigeria. Most are not even made in Nigeria. I've made several shirts from fabrics made in Nigeria that I had to give out cos I over wore them without them getting wornout. My issue with this is that the clothes on our backs are not the most urgent of problems facing us. BTW, we can use Ankara to sew lovely formal attires.
