Chronicles Of Nurse Atutupuyoyo....

Its me again.............After the last delivery story,I have another true life story that happened just yesterday,no names are mentioned and I will be doing this every time a shocking story walks into where i work....

Call me Nurse Atutupuyoyo......*wink*

Yesterday A 42 year old woman walked into the hospital with her husband to register to for antenatal care. The man was very delighted as he showered praises and adoration to God Almighty for answering their prayers(first pregnancy after 9 yrs of marriage).

During history taking the woman claimed she was 4weeks pregnant and she had the test result with her. Its a routine in the hospital I work that irrespective of the pregnancy result brought from outside, another pregnancy test should be done to ascertain the status. I was shocked to find out she wasn't pregnant after using three strips.

I didn't know how to break the news, So I called the woman into my office while the man was at the reception to book her for another appointment in the next two weeks. Then I noticed a very strange look on her face.

In her words: Please cover me up..I know i am not pregnant,he has been threatening me with divorce...I need this to buy time for myself....She said all these in tears. I was dazed, couldn't say anything for few seconds.... then she brought out an envelope containing money. That minute seems to be the longest one as I had just 100 naira on me.....

Then I remembered the word "confidentiality"......madam I owe you the duty of confidentiality....I shivered as I muttered those words but I knew i had done the right thing in rejecting the money..

The woman went back to the reception, husband was still sitting happily....public display of affection was in the air. A lot went through my head at that point.but what could I have done?....absolutely nothing.

I dont know how their story will play out or how she intends to explain the pregnancy not showing at the expected time..I dont even know what she meant by buying time but i do know that she has a desperate plan.

If you are reading this....who are you gonna put the blame on????

The woman for being too desperate and plotting such heartbreaking plan? The man for pushing the woman to the wall? Or the nurse for keeping mute??

Like I said...See you when the next story walks in....*wink*

*Those in the Medical field that wanna share stories can be Nurse Atutupuyoyo.

  3. Wow, I don't know 'confidentiality' works but I know deceit is wrong and this level of deceit should be very much punishable.

You, as the nurse as much as you owe a duty to your client, owe a duty to humanity... I'm waiting for the end of this story

    1. In medical field confidentiality is very important irrespective of the situation.for example if a man or woman is hiv positive and ask u not to tell her or he spouse as a doctor or nurse u don't tell.

  10. The nurse is not to be blamed.

  11. It's good the nurse didn't take the money but she should tell her superior about these lies. The man brought his wife to the hospital base on trust, I believe he might sue that hospital should he find out the lies later in future.

At least when the truth comes out, her head will be saved.

    1. Lolhe can't Sue and win. But the woman can sue this nurse and this website if her husband figures it out.

    2. Well said Cynthy.👍

Nurse Atutu... should have called the attention of the matron or a superior to address the situation with the woman right there.

Thankfully she didn't collect the money but she still made a mistake by misleading the woman's husband (through her actions of keeping mute) that she has confirmed and booked in his wife's (fake)pregnancy.

If the man finds out, the hospital and sues or make an issue, the hospital could loose it's credibility.

  17. welcome on-board NA indeed this is a going to be a jolly ride. honestly i blame no one desperate times calls for extreme action i believe the woman would claim miscarriage. but far be it that anyone lets the devil (deceit) encroach his/her home because that road can only lead to further doom.

  18. Na wa oh this one na Tanu and Abhi story or pragya imagined pregnancy!

  19. Indeed the nurse couldn't have done anything else.
It's sad what the lady is going thru. And come to think of it, the fault may even be the man's, but our society will be marking time for the women, breathing down their necks and making subtle threats. I pray she doesn't do something crazy to further compound the situation though.

  20. What a quandary. You said you work in a hospital, so I don't know if it's a private hospital or not. Had to ask my mum(public health worker) for her opinion and here's what she said. She said it's a good thing you didn't collect the money as this is a high risk situation. Based on the lack of info on whether you work with a government hospital or not, she said you should have recommended they go to a bigger hospital than yours as specialist attention is needed due to the woman's age. You allowing them get registered is a big problem as it has entered your records and could lead to problems. She suggested you tell them this on the next antenatal so that the issue will be handled by someone more experienced than you are.

Dunno if that will be useful to you

    1. True... Broomstick. If she stated in her records that the woman is pregnant, it will work against her and the hospital legally. I only hope that she documented everything exactly as it happened for future records

  28. I have witnessed such during my I.T days. The nurse did what's right. As for the man and his wife, it's both ways. One can't really judge for now.

  29. TTC and deceit. Who knows what the man must have put her through. 70% of infidelity s caused by men. Ofcourse the blame wiĺl always go to Iyawo😔😔. Welcome nurse Eliza post

  30. The woman was already wearing the TTC cloak and you don't have to be TTC-ing to know how that feels....then the man comes with threat of divorcé on top the matter as if the woman be God....anyways, in as much as I don't like her deceit, I don't blame her...the man would obviously be played at the end and would be no wiser for it....na him take him hand give himself name..."Fool"

  34. Nurse Atutu, this is not a case you ought to handle alone, you should have reported to your supervisor or the MD of the hospital and they will take it up.
I can see you are still green in the profession, thread with caution, inter and intra professional collaboration is very key in clients' management, don't rely on your judgement alone.
    God bless you.

  35. Kai, I understood how you felt when you saw the money. Hahaha. But seriously, we medical professionals need to educate the masses on causes of infertility. With immunologic infertility on the rise, it's pertinent to note that some couples are just biologically incompatible for reproduction to take place.

  39. I feel for the parties involved - the man who in desperation is pushing his spouse into deceit, the woman who is wearing the cloak of despair and you NA for your empathy and professional error

  40. Why can't they just get a surrogate mother or better still adopt rather than the wife pretending to be pregnant.I want to know how this whole brouhaha will end.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The man can as well take a second wife instead of divorcing his wife. The woman should plead with her husband to take a second wife instead of divorcing her.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Since you came under anonymous to say it was properly documented, then no issues.

But if I ever come to your hospital and I see my story here either with fake names or without names, I will roast your ass and teach you the true meaning of
    " Confidentiality"

  43. Nurse nurse...i really wonder where you work. in as much as it is a blog and the story is interesting, i was waiting to hear who ran your test. this is serious quackery. if the right professionals did run that test the proper comments would have been included that would cover the hospital of any wrong doing. i just hope it does back fire and your hospital is sued.

  44. The lady is so wrong. Pregnancy is a really sensitive issue, people have waited on the Lord for 15 years or more.. 9 years is minute (compared to other cases) to deceive your husband this way. I know you must have searched for all means to get pregnant, visited places you shouldn't have; but this little lie will eat in you deeper than it would to your husband. But which time please? If he waited 9years trust me, he is in with you on this. Discuss with him, look for other options if you mustbut please don't carry a weight that isn't worth carrying.

  45. Please keep a close eye on that file. If you see her with any child kindly report her so the police can get involved. People like your u pregnant pregnant patient end up patronising baby factories. Most times innocent young girls are kidnapped to keep such businesses running. Desperate people like her end up illegally adopting children. I just hope her desperation doesn't put people in harms way.
