A lon8g takes the greeting of anybody no matter how old except his mother or father. But for a governor he could have stood up halfway to acknowledge the elderly man.
The only thing that will make an elder bow, kneel or prostrate before a man who can pass for his son is either title, power, money or status.
Young kings, chief, or title holders should have some form of hand greeting with elders in their cabinet or any elder for that matter rather than allow them prostrate before them. This hand greeting may not necessarily be a handshake or any form of body contact...some form of hand admonishment sign or wave should pass
Afterall, They are just rulers or men in a position and not your god.
Poor home training... My friend will you get on your knees and meet him halfway? Power has really intoxicated a lot of us. Especially young folks. Look at the goat feeling like a King. Mschewww
It is only a king you can greet that way, not necessarily because of the person on the seat, but for the symbol of authority/tradition the seat and the person sitting on it holds. That said, I wouldn't let an elder, talk more of someone my grandfather's age bow, kneel, worse still prostrate before me. I will get up, raise him up and kneel before him to thank him for coming to see me, make him comfortable and attend to him. That is the right thing to do, at least on this side of the world.
Prof. Pius will have a field day with this one, off to his wall.
Ah, i respect older people oh, i will stand up and turn the prostrate to a hug. If he already did it, i will do mine to.... Im not sure but i will try not to let it happen
Reason why I respect yoruba elders, except money has corrupt some or for traditional purposes, cos u won't see an elder from d west lying down for a young man old enough to be his son except for the ooni of ife.
I feel very uncomfortable wen elders display signs of gratitude by shaking me with 2hands or lowering their knees to greet me, i quickly respond or hold them
All shades of wrong, if he is an oba in yorubaland,it is d tradition but politically, I don't think its right.its either I prostrate midway or I stand up to hug him. Mere looking at the picture the man looks and behaves so arrogant
My people this is what I suffer in my place of work, being appointed a magistrate Early this year, poor me me that was a registrar before the appointment is not used to such respect, sometimes women older than my mother collect my.handbag when they see me coming to work...we will be dragging bag with them all the time o.I tire for this kind respect. When I settle in the office, the.staff of the.court come in one after the other to.greet me,sometimes I will beg them not to bend for me but they.won't hear, and I.am the youngest in the court.
Sweetie, no rush into conclusions yet. You weren't there and Prolly dunno what sorta hardship that man must be passing thru. To me, That's his own way of saying thank you. Only that he took it too far prostrating
Most young people of this generation are cursed! Everything is wrong with an elderly man or woman prostrating before a younger person except if the younger person is a king.
This is wrong please. He should have met him half way rather than sitting and smiling the way he did. He is a political appointee that can be changed or dropped at anytime. If he was a king in the West it is part of their culture so is allowed. Most times he we tend to forget our roots and culture.
Don't mind the people criticizing this boy. It's not easy. Not everyone grew up seeing this type of thing. Sometimes you are so shocked your only reaction is nervous laughter or you do nothing and people say you are accepting it
If i render any sort of help, a simple " thank you " is enough please adhere to it . If you decide to say thank you fifty times, it's fine. Don't prostrate or I will take off my shoes and roll on the floor for you .
We agree that it's not okay for a much older person to prostrate to a younger person, but let's stop over analyzing and being overly critical about this. Some of you who are criticizing the chief of staff are not only rude but arrogant and disrespectful in reality.

If I were the young man, I won't allow the man prostrate to greet me. I either stand up to greet him or prostrate sef
The old man is looking for something. Whether king or not, as far the person is in authority, nothing wrong.
I dont see anything wrong with it. Baba knows what he is doing
A king is different from a political officer, na curse that Edward dey chop so.The man has indirectly insulted him.
No, no, no. Where is our home training? Chief staff my foot. Can his father prostrate to him that way? I can't deal biko.
Silly generation. A normal person would plead with the man not to do that.
When a child washes his hands he eats with elders. This one probably took a bath, elders are now eating from him...loool.
