CAN Official Criticises Churches Who Invite Entertainers To Boost Attendance

An official of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has criticised the attitude of some churches, especially in Abuja, who invite secular celebrities and entertainment personalities to boost attendance at their programmes.

The General Secretary of CAN, Musa Asake, condemned the new trend saying it would only distract people from the teachings of Christ. He said rather than the ‘‘church learning from the world, the church should be imparting the world.

If the church has gotten to a place where it is making adverts (inviting celebrities) like the world, then we are in trouble. The church is a serious place where we go to worship, not where we go for entertainment. In my personal opinion, I don’t support it, because this will only divert the attention of people from Christ to human beings which is not supposed to be so,” he said.

If for example, I’m a fan of one of these celebrities and they are invited, I’ll stop thinking about my salvation, about Christ and my walk with the Lord, I’ll rather be focusing on that person. Once the church gets to that level, we are trying to side-track ourselves from the gospel message to a worldly kind of entertainment, which is not supposed to be so.

*Huh?..Do you agree with this kind of reasoning?

  1. I agree with this point raised.

The church is a place of worship and communion with God.
The things of God are serious and not to be taken mildly and you find this comedians making light of the scripture as if it's their play book.

Let me ask how many times as a comedian have they been invited to the mosque to make light of the Quran or to Ayilala or Amadioha shrine to come play with their traditional things.

Churches who invite them cheapen the message of God to suit the world
so that it can be attractive enough for Hugh crowd turn out so that the offering basket can be overflowing at the end of the day

This is a good initiative but I know that the children of "WOBE" in the church will never support this

    1. The man is not serious and definitely does not understand the bible. So celebrities are devils? Some of these celebrities are very born again. Jesus dinned and wined with all sort of people just to get them to follow Him. Well the fact that he'd CAN official does not mean he understands the word or have a relationship with God.

What/ who is CAN by the way? Hehehe....yeye dey smell

Let me come and be going for evangelism jare.

  2. Yes he made absolute sense Stella, the church suppose to impact the world(ungodly) and not the other way round. That's why I love Christ Embassy, they groom different kinds of talents inside the church, the church has great comedians like Chikancy who can keep you rolling on the floor with Christian jokes, they have great dancers and gospel artists, actors/actresses are not left out...How can a church invite Korede Bello because he sang 'God win'? And the same person will sing with breasts and ass at another event?? That's hypocrisy and church should not entertain such. It will never happen in a mosque!

  9. Agree 100% , most of you who are against him don't know the real workings of mega churches. I have worked for a few of your global mega churches and without saying much the masses are truly fools. Mention any big name on your TV screen (oyinbos ones) and I've literally managed them out ... Until you get there and see what's happening, to you'll stake your parents lives to the fact that you think they are clean. Sadly a lot if fools who want to be fooled on earth.

  10. I don't agree. If celebrities are invited, they are to let people know that God is God for everybody.

What I don't like is having commendiens making jokes in the house of God. That is bad.

If the Muslims don't do it then why should churches encourage it. It is bad.

  12. Of course he's 💯 right! You can't mix God and the world together.

The reason God said if we are neither warm nor cold He will spit us out.

Choose ye today whom you will serve!

Comedians making expensive jokes about christendom and the leaders of the church ⛪ will be applauding them.

They know their "god", only those without wisdom and the Holy Spirit are being fooled.
