Mama Tee Series -Drama And Comedy As Grandma Visits Lagos

Mama Tee's series is now a stand alone and wil feature every Friday same time...

When I gave birth to Tee, my mum was indisposed, my aunt too was in her daughter's house for omugwo so they sent my little sister who was in the higher institution to come help with house chores while a church Mama took up the responsibility of bathing me and the new baby.

After 5 days, my paternal grandma arrived from the East to take over from church Mama.

She was 72yrs old. I was glad that my grandmother had arrived, you know, I could now shout and scream freely while receiving that hot water treatment. That reminds me, Stella, how do abroad people do that tummy blasting with hot water? Abi dem no dey do am?

Back to my story, trouble started when grandma started bathing baby, I noticed that the baby's cries were louder than when Mama church was doing the bathing, rushing to the scene I saw grandma washing the baby's face with soap and then she rinsed it with water just like when adults bath. E pain me but I controlled my anger and gently explained to her the method used by Mama church, cleaning with face towel. She complied.

After a week of grandma's take over, pus started coming out of baby's ears, grandma had been pouring water into the baby's ears. That was how I took over the bathing of my baby. Hian!

Grandma was very choosy with food. Her eba and Semo must be very strong in contrast to mine which should be very soft to prevent big tummy. Grandma did not like rice, beans, okra soup, ewedu, spaghetti, etc. Till today, she does not like Yoruba locust beans(iru, ogiri or dawa) in her soup, she hates the smell.
The first day I served her soup containing iru, she picked every tiny piece of it and put them in the tray.

The day I blended it and added to soup, she threw up. Hehehehehe

Let me add that grandma till this day does not eat without a tray. You must serve her with a tray even if it's on a dinning table with table mats. Hahahahahahahaha

Early one morning when my baby was 2months old, grandma called me to come see something in the living room. When I rushed there, she pointed at the artificial plant at a corner and told me it was growing taller. Hahahahahahahahaha.

Growing taller how? Rubber plant that I placed inside a pot filled with plastic crystals? We laughed at grandma till tears flowed from our eyes that day.

Grandma's tales can make a good comedy movie, they are too much to narrate. May God keep all our old ones alive longer for us.

Mama Tee.

*Mama Tee I cannot answer that your question up there cos i had Cesarean sections..Maybe someone else who is in the diaspora and had the hot water treatment after childbirth can add their story in the comment section.

As for Grand ma's,I do not have any fond memories per se of both my late grandma's cos i grew up in Lagos and both did not like Lagos and we were only allowed to go visiting until all visits were stopped over a little ish.

  1. Nice read.... grandmums can be so sweet. Even when they are annoying, you just notice they are just being "kids" all over again. I can imagine her washing the eyes.. . Lmao....

    3. You people for Nigeria dey enjoy now. Come to the abroad and you will straighten up sharp sharp.
I had CS for both kids without help, first baby MIL came and it was the greatest mistake of my life which i always regret.
I had my baby few weeks before her daughter and she treated me really really bad but i was strong with strength from God even though it was tough and i was able to take care of my baby.
I had CS and was the one cooking, serving, pampering MIL, i cried zo many times and went into depression. I really suffered and was so excited when her daughter put to bed and she had to leave ours.
When my SIL put to bed and each time we went to greet them, i would feel really sad at the way MIL pampered her daughter for 3 months meanwhile i lost so much weight because of the stress this woman gave me.
Had my second child 2016, i dint want this woman to come but she made sure she came after weeks of my delivery. I was doing fine, eating whatever i wanted, sleeping really well until mama came and trouble started. May God pay her back in a 100 folds cause shes been extremely wicked to me. Lost my mum few years ago
God have mercy, dont wanna go much into the bitter story but i thank God for all.
I never used hot water for my tummy and my tummy has been flat in the 2 deliveries without stretchmarks. I always rub Almond oil on my tummy plus Palmers cocoa butter massage cream which you can both get from Boots, Superdrugs, Tesco, Asda etc and it has done wonders.

  2. When mine came to stay with us..I was to boil yam for dinner, she said the yam was too plenty that I should reduce, I refused, she tried to drag it from my hand, I ran away with it, lol. When she saw my mum she started crying that I beat her, my mum actually believed. She did so many annoying things..but grandma will always be grandma.

She even gave me a nickname (onye nma nevu) meaning I was intoxicated by my beauty. Don't bother I'm even looking for the beauty.hahahaha.

  6. Mama Tee welcome back. I wonder why your grandmother could not bathe new born well. most old women like that age are experts in that department. My mum bathes new born for Nigerians in the neighbourhood for free here in the UK.

    1. My dear give gripe water cos that's what I was prescribed to give my baby too. Read about colic and see if the symptoms are similar to your baby's own apparently babies suffer from it alot at their early stage.

    2. Sorry about your son dear. The scars will clear. There is this heat rash powder that I was introduced to when I was nursing my baby even up till now, I still use it for heat rashes o grown up kids. It's called Rising powder. The small one is N400. It's like one powder that Yoruba call 'moju' but this one has nice smell. As for the bloating, follow doctor's advice. Can't remember what I used back then.

    3. Sorry dear maybe it's inu iwo (dnt kno d English meaning). My baby too disturbed till 3mnths o. Be using gripe water #motherhood

    4. It's very normal poster, get the gripe water and give your baby, make she the baby belches after each feed and as for the stooling, it's normal for babies to poo like 6-8 times a day, nothing to worry about except the baby grunts painfully each time he's pooing. Your baby is fine, you'll soon get the hang of it. congratulations

But how do the whites do it? Their tummy usually go flat after having kids. It's not all of them that do CS, that I know and it's not all of them that do reconstruction surgery.

    1. Lols. One needs a lot of patience to deal with MILs. They feel the new baby is their possession since its their son's child and so they want to control everything about the child forgetting the woman who suffered to birth the child.

    2. It's an irony that the same women guarded their sons jealously when they were given birth to but soon forget that and battle for supremacy with daughters-in-law in matters that concern their grandchildren.

  11. Grandmas are the real MVP (Bloglord move over). I so much took care of my grandma eh! And she blessed me scatter, she died at 109.

That tray thing is so me, I can't eat without tray too, except on occasions where it is not available, I will just manage. Even when I feed my daughter, I must put her plate and cup in a tray.

😁😁at the plant growing. Is she still alive?
    Bless her heart.
