FG Discloses That It Spends N3.5m Monthly To Feed Incarcerated Shi’ite Leader El-Zakzaky

HUH?

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has disclosed that the Nigerian government spends the sum of N3.5m monthly to feed incarcerated leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Mohammed made the disclosure on Wednesday while addressing State House Correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after members of his religious group had a clash with men of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

According to Mohammed, ”Please the issue of where El-Zakzaky is should be kept off the record. It cost the Federal government about N3.5 million every month to feed him, this is a fact. We don’t want to inflame passion because its a very sensitive matter but that is the situation. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria are a different kind of group.

  18. I think dis government have problem spending thousands, all their money na from millions- billions whereas they see no problem in paying civil servants a mere 30k as minimum wage.
Being in prison chopping #3.5m monthly and working ur butts off just to get a merger 30k( not certain yet) which is better?????
    Misplaced priorities.

  24. N3.5million for just one person? Hmmmm some lies are just too ridiculous even for a 'Lie' Mohammed. Please don't distract our attention from the main thing which is that the man has been held for years without trial. Enforce his fundamental human rights, release him or proceed with his trial ASAP. I'm sure you are feeding Dasuki with same amount daily -if not more. Mschew. APC and their diversionary tactics.

  28. What he should have said is or believed he meant was 3.5million for his upkeeps! A lot of money is spent maintaining a high profile person in detention. He is under house arrest, his cooks will be paid, security, diesel, medical team on standby, and other logistics. People will mark it up naturally, but most def, it will be in mills to maintain that man!

Is continue incarceration means more money in their pockets.

  34. Lai, it shall not be well with either you or buhari! that 3.5m if added to the amount to pay the workers with, won’t APC government be able to pay even more that the N30k that you are even refusing to pay???? Somebody is embezzling money and he is looking for where to apportion the deficit, then you openly say the money is spent on a man that you choose to hold in jail against his will?? his people asked you to free him to relieve you of this “bogus” spending???? God punish you, buhari and the apc government!

  36. And this same govt can’t pay minimum wage of 30k per month? People that are laboring for this country with their sweat. They get deprived even on the peanuts they earn. And one idiot is been fed with such an amount monthly? God will disgrace all these irresponsible people in governance. They will eat their own flesh. What a country.
