ReplyDeleteWas dressing up this morning to go out, when a young man I know in the neighborhood knocked on my door. On getting in, he was in a tense mood and said to me he needed 4,500 naira for something serious. I told him I don't have at the moment to give out and would have love to help out.
He went further to say, if he didn't succeed with the money before 10am, he may be arrested.
Hearing that, I sat down and asked what is the problem? He said "senior you no go understand". After much hesitation, he opened up and said to me he took a loan of 100,000 from one Lapo micro finance. The agreement is that every Wednesday you pay 4,500 naira till you complete the loan and failure to do that you will be arrested. Last week he didn't meet up and now again the same thing.
His sureties have started calling him on phone angrily. He was so restless and has lost some weight obviously as a result of thinking.
I wasn't new to such a story, I have seen people collapse because of this. A woman even abandoned his children and ran away. There was once we all contributed money in a church group to help out a member mother who almost commit suicide because of this. This stories are enormous.
I will advice, if you don't have a good plan system of paying back loan, do not get one. The high blood pressure it comes with kills faster than HIV AIDS.
