Gov Ambode To Miss Out on Abuja Mansion

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will be the first governor in Lagos State since 2007 to miss out on a mansion in Abuja after leaving office.

The Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension) Law No 11 official Gazette of Lagos State, 2007 states that former governors of Lagos State are entitled to a house in Lagos and Abuja in any location of their choice.

However, the law adds that any governor who does not serve for two consecutive terms, will only be entitled to a house in Lagos. Following his loss to Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in October, Ambode will not be returning to the Alausa Governor’s Office on May 29, 2019.

The state government has built houses for former governors of the state in Lagos and Abuja in line with the law. A house was bought for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Ikoyi and the Asokoro area of Abuja next to the Lagos State Governor’s Lodge.

Although no actual figure was placed on how much the houses procured would cost, But it was learnt that to build or buy houses for former governors of Lagos would cost between N500m and N1bn.

For instance, the construction of a “section” of the house of the immediate past Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on 15 Cameron Drive, Ikoyi, costs the state N329,929,551, according to the Lagos State budget of 2014.

    1. No Stella, this kind of gazette does not affect presidents. Presidents do not get this an their end of tenure entitlement. It is about four states whose house of assembly passed laws that allow for governors and their deputies to benefit from end of tenure entitlement: Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and partially Kwara.

    2. God work in mysterious ways, imagine if he didn't obey the His Spirit to buy that house. He will move in with Mercy Aigbe.

  2. He can build himself a house in abj Na. Enjoy the Lagos house given ,after all you will only live in one

  3. Worked for 8years and got houses in Abuja and Lagos, while those dt worked for 35 years ,get nothing in return...of wat relevance is d house in Abuja?

  4. Hmmm, too much money in this country.

  5. 2 houses in any chosen area all because the person became governor, dis guys only make laws that favour them alone

    1. Naijas ati Lagosians, una mumu neva do? These thieving politicians need to be booted out of office asap. Ultimately, its the people/ballot boxes that have the final say on who leads them and how that process is mapped out. NMTA

  6. Chai!!! And we wonder why the masses keep suffering, some laws are not meant to be.

  7. Because they did not have houses prior to their becoming governors they were homeless. Awon ole jati jati. Using the power of governance to enrich themselves with abuse of privilege.

  8. Nonsense laws...selfish politicians.

  9. Meanwhile...even at this, they will make sure they empty the treasury to buy up the whole choice areas after they leave office.

    This is madness.

  10. Very selfish laws. Self serving politicians

  11. And you think Ambode won't have property in Abuja already. He was already chopping Lagos state money as Accountant General or smthn even before becoming Governor. Most of these ppl including Sanyaolu were already in the system as civil servants and have grown through the ranks.
