Togolese Nationals Nabbed Trying To Obtain Nigerian Passport

Two citizens of the Republic of Togo have been arrested in Osogbo by men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Osun State Command, while attempting to obtain Nigerian passports.

The Togolese, Ametchonwoun Alexandre Adodo and Awoudya Yao Francis, were arrested on the premises of the Osun State Command of the NIS when they appeared for photographic capturing.

The suspects, it was learnt, entered Nigeria without passports and wanted to travel to Kenya to secure jobs with Nigerian passports.

It was also gathered that Ametchonwoun and Awoudya applied for Nigerian passports as Alexandre Adebayo and Francis Adebayo, respectively.

The suspects said they paid N65, 000 to one Saheed Ajibola, who was assisting them to obtain the passports.

The Comptroller, NIS, Osun State Command, Mr Adebowale Idowu, said the suspects used fake local government identification documents from Badagry in Lagos State.

Idowu added that the said Ajibola, who was assisting the suspects to get the passports and had forged local government identification documents for them, was also arrested.

While answering questions from our correspondent, the Togolese suspects said they came to Nigeria without documents.

They added that they were introduced to Ajibola, who promised to procure the passports to enable them move to Kenya.

Ajibola, however, said he did not know that the suspects were not Nigerians, adding that he obtained local government identification documents for the two men in order to assist them .

The Osun NIS boss stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was concluded .

  6. This zoo of a country won't do anything. Everyone wants to make money at the detriment of the whole country.
Most times I don't buy the crap of most Nigerians abroad doing drugs, because some of them come here with our poros borders and perpetuate crimes.
    Anyway ,naija na senior ZOO.

  7. All the Nigeria Immigration Service centers across the nation, need a repurge starting from the top to bottom. They also, need to be trained on immigration policies and other security processes to avoid immigration fraud.

This is a total national security embarrassment and one can only imagine other illegal immigrants with fake Nigerian names disguising as Nigerian citizens with passports both domestic and foreign based.

There are serious gaps and concerns within immigration services to be overlooked and this is a security risk that shouldn't be ignored by NIS and the president to further protect its citizens and the nation.
