Armed Soldiers And Police Lay Siege At Lagos Office Of Daily Trust After Shutting Down Borno And Abuja Offices....

The Lagos Bureau Office of the Media Trust Ltd (publishers of Daily Trust newspaper titles) has been taken over by a combination of armed military and police officers.

The security operatives had earlier in the day besieged and shut down the Borno regional office of the news publication before arresting the regional editor and a reporter.

Similarly, at Daily Trust headquarters in Abuja, armed military officers besieged the premises, carted away computer system while holding the staff hostage.
At about 9pm, it was observed that a total of seven security operatives’ vehicles have been stationed within and outside the Lagos office premises situated at the Textile Labour House, Acme, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

About 15 soldiers and police officers were seen hanging around the premises as at the time of filing this report.

  1. I read it has to do with an editorial publication from the company. This government shouldn't act as if we are still in the military era. You don't stifle the press because a news doesn't suit you or criticise you. What happened in seeking a redress in the law court if you think your character have been malign? If this was Tribune newspaper would they have done this?

    2. Boy, you have started with your diarrhoea comment. Did Tribune do the same thing as Daily Trust? Now you read it has to do with an editorial publication but what was the publication about? You didn’t say because you only see the negative with anything related to the government. What the military did was the right step forward. The military has consistently, repeatedly and has had several meetings with media houses since the start of fight against Boko Haram on updates and reports. Daily Trust did wrong by publishing an editorial which hinted the military’s move on their next planned attack on Boko Haram. This is very insensitive of Daily Trust to disclose such planned moves because it gives Boko Haram the chance to prepare for or run away from the military’s planned attack. It will also make the military’s efforts to curtail the insurgents fruitless and useless. That is the editorial publication that you didn’t read but claimed to have read. So it is not about maligning of character, mr I-want-to-comment-to-show-off. It is about the ethics of publication especially when it comes to the danger of human lives. However, the FG responded and charged a reversal of the military’s action.

    3. Teejay, did you read the military’s press release on their reason for going to Daily trust’s office? Don’t forget Daily trust is more northern kind of news so it is irrelevant bringing in tribune to compare.

    4. So if it was a good action, why then did the federal government charged a reversal of their actions? Was it daily trust that led to the killings of over 100 military men at Metele? The problem we have in this country is that we pursue shadows and leave the actual substance. Have Boko haram not made every of their operations known before striking? Why then they always defeat the military and capture new territory?

Your worries and that of the government you support you should be, why are the military poorly funded? to an extent they publicly begged for food, water and sophisticated weaponry. Isn't that a slap to our collective reasoning to support a government that clamp on the press that report their inaction and inefficiency.

    5. Sorry bro but the press isn’t reporting any inaction and inefficiency. Because it is not even mentioned anywhere. And no, it is absolute and fabricated lie to claim that Boko Haram has always made their operations known before striking. Foul! Just lie! Do you think if the soldiers knew that, they would expose themselves to the danger of death? Or the suicide attacks in markets through small girls who they hide bombs in their clothes? Secondly, another lie to claim that Boko Haram has captured any territory since the present dispensation. In fact, more people have gone back to their homes since this government started. And no, the military has not been defeated. It is only in your imagination and fictitious narrative and false accounts.
The military is the one who suffers this crisis and killings from this coward Boko Haram and if media houses are releasing classified documents that could be helpful to curtail the menace of the insurgence then the available option is the holding back of any medium that makes such happen.
So because daily trust wasn’t responsible for the cause of the attack on soldiers in Matele, it is a justification for them to publish the military’s planned attack on Boko Haram? Thereby exposing more lives to danger and making the efforts of the military fruitless. How does such reasoning sounds to you? Logical or irrational?
And as for the Federal Government reversing the military’s move, it is basically because of people like you who see nothing good in any movement of the government and associated units.

    6. Thank you anon 09:26 and10:02. I think this guy just like commenting without thought. I usually don’t bother responding to him because it is pointless. You will see the same kind of comments today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Nothing chances about him.

    7. Anonymous don't let me start dropping facts about town Boko haram are currently occupying with their flags hosted. They are seven in numbers. Baga is one among them. I am not happy about it, for these are peoples fathers and brothers fighting for the nation. All I am saying is that, the military shouldn't be politicized, they should be equipped adequately and logistically.

Understand me clearly, I am never in support of daily trust leakage of those reports but all I am still saying is that, there are better ways to go about it all. If there wasn't then the Federal government won't have intervened.

    8. Teejay, sometimes when we comment and react to some things, it comes out as if we are supporting the government but that is not the case. I just think our hatred for the people of this government should not cloud our lenses from seeing things the way they are. If you asked me if this government has done very well, I would say no. I think they could’ve done better.
Let’s be honest please, in the fight against Boko Haram, this government has done better than the previous one. But this is no time for comparison because one life gone is too many lives wasted. And no, Baga is not presently occupied. No territory is controlled by Boko Haram at the moment. No flag raised anywhere. This doesn’t mean that I am saying that the fight against Boko Haram is perfect now. I feel pains too for the soldiers on the field. They don’t get good welfare pays, they have less weapons to fight. It doesn’t give them a good boost to fight. They are exposed to danger. So this kind of efforts made by ill equipped soldiers should not be made to come to waste by the actions of media houses. We should all be supportive for us all to move forward. Criticisms here and there because we don’t support some people and support others are not helpful. We can do better. I hope you have a good day.
