Mob Beats Wrong Person To Death Over Car Battery Theft.....

A 45 - year - old man, Yusuf Ibrahim, has lost his life in jungle justice after a mob lynched him over a car battery allegedly stolen at Nato Park, Tin Can Island, Apapa , Lagos.

It was later discovered that the battery was found with one Yusuf Yahaya , who works around Tin Can First Gate – some distance from the park.

A Punch correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Monday, January 7 2019, around 7.30 am.

The victim was said to be one of the destitute people who sometimes passed the night on the premises, where trucks are parked.

It was gathered that when one of the truck drivers resumed duty that morning, he discovered that the battery of his vehicle was missing.

He raised the alarm and a search party was formed to fish out the perpetrator.

A commercial motorcyclist (popularly known as okada rider ) in the area, who identified himself only as Salisu, told Saturday Punch that some drivers suspected Ibrahim and accosted him.

He said, “ I was on my motorcycle, coming from Liverpool, Apapa that morning when I saw a crowd at the park. I moved closer and saw a man ( Ibrahim ) covered in blood. He had been beaten to a pulp. I asked people what happened and they told me he stole the battery of a truck.

“The man had lost his strength and he was almost dead. Passersby were afraid to take him to a hospital. I later left the scene for fear of being implicated.”

Salisu said about 30 minutes later, he went back to the scene and was told that some policemen had come to remove Ibrahim's corpse .

He said sadness overwhelmed him when he learnt that the battery was found with somebody else.

“ It was discovered that the battery was actually stolen by a young man called Yahaya. I learnt he worked around Tin Can First Gate,” the okada rider added.

Another eyewitness, who identified himself as Danladi , said entreaties by some people to stop the mob from lynching Ibrahim were rebuffed.

He said the mob dispersed the scene upon noticing that the victim was dying, adding that some suspects had been arrested by the police.

“It was very unfortunate that the man was killed for a crime he did not commit . Even if he had stolen the battery, I don’t see why they should beat him up. I used to see him around the park, but I don't know where he lived. The police should bring his killers to justice,” the eyewitness said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Chike Oti, while confirming the incident said six suspects, including Yahaya, had been arrested.

Oti stated that the command frowned on mob justice and urged people to desist from the dastardly act

*Really sad story!!!

  1. People have no value for human lives anymore. This show that they are all murderers. If you have the heart to kill, you are a murderer. They killed the wrong person for just a battery. The spirit of the dead man would keep haunting them. Rip to him

    1. May His soul rest in peace. So sad, an innocent man.
But even if he stole the car battery is that enough to beat a man to death

    2. Of course they are murderers.

  2. Oh my God!!!!! What a very sad story, only if he had not been homeless

  3. Jungle justice. I always feel bad when I see people rough handling a thief, they forget our big men looting our money. The small thieves should be apprehensed cos they make simple living difficult and then handed to the police. See how an innocent man was killed.
What about Evans the kidnaoper? How far
What about the Muslim woman that killed her husband in abj last year and she said she was nursing and pregnant?

  4. Unbelievable!!! Jungle justice is not only inhumane you could be wrong about the person!!! 😠😠😠

  5. Eyah
    Rip to him

  6. When calamity behalf's these stupid people and their children who performed this evil deed, they will start running to different churches looking for God forgetting the sins are their father and of their past. Wicked and foolish people everywhere,

  7. Too bad. Na so they for kill me throway one day for motor park. I been dey come home with a friend wey develop mental illness at a conference. Her hair and clothes don scatter and she been dey talk anyhow. As we reach motor park, them begin question me angrily say "wetin I carry am do?" meaning rituals o.
I explain taya. I for just die for nothing I sabi, just trying to help another vulnerable human.

  8. na wah o. again???? they better put an end to this jungle justice whatever. See how dey just wasted an innocent man's life cos of battery. that was how dey killed an old woman in Benin years back saying she is a witch cos she looked like a mad woman. her children watched it on TV and later came out to say the woman is their mother and she was not a witch. she actually came from agbor or so to locate a church in Benin. Abeg some people are just too heartless

  9. This just spoilt my day! I hate injustice.

  10. so dey just waste d poor man's life ogaa o.

  11. I have never supported jungle justice because stories of innocent ppl being attacked are rife. The deceased in this story is one of thousands who have been wrongfully accused and attacked by a mob, worse if you are strange to an area. Even Jesus died because of a mob hungry for blood.

  12. See the way an innocent man was Killed Kaii RIP...

  13. Useless country.. shuts people would be shocked at our level of barbarism
