The Suspension Of Chief Justice Onnoghen - Your View!

The Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen was suspended by the Federal government of Nigeria because he failed to declare his assets....The Chief Justice said he ''FORGOT'' to do so but the president says his suspension holds until the case is concluded...
The is the first time a Chief Justice of Nigeria will go on trial for Corruption in a Country where Corruption thrives......

The government did not follow due process in Suspending the Chief Justice and it is coming at a time when the Country is getting ready to elect a new Leader to rule.......

A Blog Visitor says.....

-The Federal government could have waited Until after the elections and if a new leader is elected they pass on the info that the Chief Justice should be probed..

-How come they are just realising that he didn't declare his assets?I want to believe that a dossier was kept on him and saved for a rainy day!

-The Chief Justice should have done the Honourable thing and resigned as is done in developed Countries...Resign and save face!

The FG is wrong for suspending the Chief Justice and going about it the wrong way but the Chief Justice was piling money in different accounts and forgot to declare it?His hands were not clean!

Let the Law take its course,the FG should follow due process in removing the Chief Justice because I don't think it would be Healthy to allow him continue as Chief Justice...

I say........The whole system is Corrupt and the suspended Chief Justice did not come to equity with clean hands!

What is your view?

    1. There is a plan to get Saraki and Ekweramadu arrested today night and replace them with Ahmed Lawan, Hope Uzodinma and one other APC senator so that the proposed Senate reconvening tomorrow won't hold. It's all over the news that the president has invited all the APC senators for a dinner tonight at the villa where discussion will be made as to counter any eventuality of impeachment to him tomorrow. He is afraid of impeachment already, so he is throwing his weight on the senators to save him after abusing the constitution.

    2. ...as Buhari don cook problem few weeks to election(military style), we all know his hands are not clean. A lot of countries shelf prosecutions during elections just for peace and unity of the country. To Buhari, peace and unity is secondary to his quest for power.
      Solution: Onnoghen with UNPROVEN ACCUSATIONS gone, Tanko for accepting an ILLEGAL APPOINTMENT and chance of passing judgements to favor the current president per the election tribunal which he has hastily set up, gone.

      Next in line judge for CJN please. Everyone plays fair.

  8. "When tyranny and oppression comes to the land, it will be in the guise of fighting crime" James Madison (U.S President 1809-1817)

    First in my humble opinion I will start by saying, one notable maxim in law states that "He who seek equity must come with a clean hand." In this case the chief justice of Nigeria have faulted the first principle of equity.

    Two wrongs can never make a right as they said. Now what does the constitution says in this aspect? First, there should be an investigation by the NJC over this matter then recommendations send across to the Senate who in turn make a resolution and recommendations to the president with a vote of two third legislators in attendance.

    Why these process follow? Obviously No. The NJC weren't consulted neither was the Senate before the president acted on a controversial ex parte order.

    What the NJC would have done if the matter was brought to them by the president is to step aside the chief justice who is the head of the council and the next in rank will step in along side other members and carry out their investigation. It is on the note the president would have acted by fulfilling all righteousness if the council didn't act rightly after being informed.

    My questions are; if the chief justice was on the same lane and doing the wish of the ruling government, would we have heard about all these? I guess No. Do you know Magu the EFCC boss wasn'f confirmed by the Senate due to the corruption case filed against him even by the former DSS boss and some highly place Nigerians. Today he is still presiding over the commission because he is doing the dirty job for the government.

    Why did it take them this late to discovered this issue? Why the hurry in replacing the CJN when the matter is still in court. Where every option explore before the hammer was let losed? An appeal court that supercede the tribunal did ruled on Tuesday for an adjournment till this week. So why did the presidency pressure the CCT a day after the appeal court ruling to issue an ex parte order? Why do the government resort to self help in their own case before the court.

    In all I want to believe that the government has abused the supremacy of the constitution. They erred in all ramification over this matter and a bad precedent have just been set that a state governor will wake up one morning and fire his state chief judge without consulting.

    2. 12:51 yes we know he wasn't dismissed but suspended. Between the tribunal and appeal court whose ruling is superior and binding? If they had waited till this week as the matter was adjourned, would Nigeria had collapse? There is more to this than meet the eyes.

      Do you know the chief of army staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai was allegedly accused and petitioned in having some undeclared assets in Dubai, including huge amount of money and property bought with his wife name. The presidency quickly stepped in the matter and defended him without sending him for investigation. What does that tells you? If you are useful to them, they have your back covered but if you are not then you are in for trouble.

Up till now he's still dragging feet to punish Babachir & others that the house has been fighting for , but he did not hesitate to deal with Omoghen bcos he's not from his 'camp'. Why favor some & send others to the stakes? Nigeria we hail thee!!!

  11. Almost everyone on social media voiced former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun into resigning. Some even asked that the President remove her to prove that he's truly fighting corruption. When the brilliant woman saw that she truly erred by submitting a fake NYSC Exemption certificate, she did the honourable thing. She tendered her resignation letter and left. She RESIGNED!
    By that time, those of you ethnic jingoists didn't see Kemi as a Southerner. You screamed at her, cyber bullied her and even hurled abuses at her. Now it is the turn of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, who admitted himself that he 'forgot' to declare his domiciliary accounts which was loaded with £23,409, €49,971 and $391,401, including 55 houses undeclared, and by so doing, he breached the Code of Conduct as a Public officer and was suppose to have resigned straightaway if he had any modicum of honour, integrity and shame as the custodian of the Nigerian Law, but he didn't. Instead, he was doing everything to stall his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. All those times, you didn't call for his resignation the same way you did with Kemi, you didn't bully him to resign the way you bullied Kemi, you were instead urging him to stay on, you were drumming support for him and some of you that were deceiving yourselves with your forming neutrality didn't say anything all this while too, you deliberately turned dumb. When it was first revealed a fortnight ago that the Chief Justice of Nigeria didn't declare his domiciliary accounts with dollars starched in it, all you were vituperating was that the President wanted to remove him because he's a southerner. You acted dumb on the offence he committed. Now that the CJN has been suspended, those of you fake neutralists are now crying foul. You're screaming that democracy is in danger. Can y'all see how nonsensically hypocritical you are? Your hypocrisy is legendary. Your hypocrisy stinks. You shouted and bullied Kemi Adeosun into resignation but aiding Onnoghen who can't explain how he got the foreign currencies starched in his domiciliary accounts which he didn't declare plus 55 houses. A whooping 55 houses.
    Instead of the CJN to resign honourably and go clear himself, he was busy running from pillar to post buying injunctions to stop the case against him. Just a couple of days ago, another $630,000 and $800,000 was discovered in his separate domiciliary accounts again. Y'all pretended you didn't see the news, abi? Sensing that he could be suspended by the NJC, the CJN quickly suspended their meeting indefinitely. Why? So that he can stay on. You can imagine!
    You asked Kemi to resign but Onnoghen who was selling justice for dollars and deliberately didn't declare those dollars in his domiciliary accounts including 55 houses should stay on, and he should be left alone.
    Arrant nonsense.

  12. Cash deposits by Justice Onnoghen:

    Justice Onnoghen made five different cash deposits of $10,000 each on 8th March 2011 into Standard Chartered Bank Account 1062650

    On 7th June 2011, two separate cash deposits of $5000 each were made by Justice Walter Onnoghen, followed by four cash deposits of $10,000 each

    On 27th June 2011, Justice Onnoghen made another set of five separate cash deposits of $10,000 each and made four more cash deposits of $10,000 each on the following day, 28th June 2011

    Details of Assets in Nigerian Banks, Onnoghen mentioned only two bank accounts:

    Union Bank account number 0021464934 in Abuja, with balance of N9,536,407, as at 14th November 2014.

    Union Bank account number 0012783291 in Calabar, with balance of N11, 456,311 as at 14th November 2014.

    The sources of the funds in these accounts are stated as salaries, estacodes and allowances.

    Seven other bank accounts are linked to Justice Onnoghen, they include:

    Standard Chartered account 00001062667, with balance of N3,221,807.05 as at 14th November 2016.

    Standard Chartered account 00001062650, with balance of $164,804.82, as at 14th November 2016.

    Standard Chartered account 5001062686, with balance of EUROS 55,154.56, as at 14th November 2016.

    Standard Chartered Bank account 5001062679 with balance of GBP108,352.2, as at 14th November 2016.

    Standard Chartered Bank account 5001062693 with balance of N8,131,195.27, as at 14th November 2016.

    Union Bank account 00021464934 with balance of N23,261,568.89, as at 14th November 2016.

    Union Bank account 0012783291 with balance of N14,695,029.12, as at 14th November 2016.

    The foreign currency Standard Chartered Bank accounts that were declared by Justice Onnoghen have been in existence since at least 2011.

    Prior to 2016, Justice Onnoghen appears to have suppressed or otherwise concealed the existence of these multiple domiciliary accounts owned by him;

    The Standard Chartered Bank dollar account 1062650 had a balance of $391,401.28 on 31st January 2011

    The Standard Chartered Bank Euro account 5001062686 had a balance of EURO 49,971.71 on 31st January 2011

    The Standard Chartered Bank pound sterling account 5001062679 had a balance of GBP23,409.66 on 28th February 2011

    Facts which support the assertion that Justice Walter Onnoghen may have committed a breach of the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act as follows:

    Non-declaration of assets immediately after taking office in several capacities prior to becoming the Chief Justice of Nigeria contrary to section 15 of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act;

    Non-declaration of assets immediately after taking office as the Chief Justice of Nigeria contrary to section 15 of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act;

    Non-declaration of assets at the statutory intervals after taking office throughout his career as a federal judicial officer contrary to section 15 of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act;

    False declaration of asset, and in particular, concealment of significant and declarable assets in the form of sundry bank accounts and the balances therein, contrary to section 15 of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act

  16. Do you know that the former CJN was part of the Dubai evil gathering ?? He was paid upfront in order to do the bidding of a certain political party after they must have lost the election and lodged complain before the Court.

    Onnonghen promised PDP that he will constitute Tribunal Judges that will be favourable to PDP where he will stand for them in the Apex Court and will grant them dubious victory in the Supreme Court afterwards.. The Money we heard was paid by SARAKI's aides on three different instalment and in dollars.

    The date which the money was Paid was transmitted to the Presidency by top security personals..

  17. Due process should be followed at all times. The present administration did not follow due process in his removal despite alluding to the fact that they were following an Ex parte order which can be set aside at any time.Have you ever seen where an accused solider is tried in court without first court marshaling same?

    ReplyDelete

    1. What ex parte order? When a higher court has already ruled on Tuesday for adjournment, then the presidency secretly pressured the CCT chairman to issue an ex parte the next day being Wednesday. Where is such thing obtainable in the law? Don't we have lawyers anymore on this blog? I stand to be corrected, I think if a competent court gives a ruling, it takes another higher one to upturn the previous judgement. Between the tribunal and an Appeal court, which is higher and superior on a ruling?

      Delete
    2. Corrupt lawyers and judges shout due process but they have perfected the art of messing up due process. To ensure they are not caught, they go for exparte motions in various courts and you can be sure the judges there will grant it cos they are all part of the scam called judiciary in Nigeria. The suspended CJN in order to avoid his case being deliberated postponed the meeting of the national judicial council indefinitely. I mean, who does that? This is the same person that already admitted he was guilty and would not honourably step aside. Sincerely, the fact that some people are actually supporting this leaves much to be desired/ Shows how morals has been replaced by clouded judgement of tribalism. And of course,the NASS is headed by PDP. So what do you expect if the case was taken there? At best, delay tactics Buhari knew what he was doing. He took the wind off their sail. PDP guys are really pained. There is more to this than they are telling us. Its a shame.

  18. stella my madam i greet o, believe you are entitled to your own opinion politically, but need i remind you that PMB's double standard on matters corruption, is strictly against Christians and Southerners, remember the video evidence of ganduje collecting 5mill dollars, and instead PMB gave him an award the following week, imagine if dat was to be a southerner it would have been jungle justice. in the replacement of CJN PMB appointed a hausa muslim and we Christians cant still see clearly whats is about to befall our Country, even when the western countries are calling him out for our sakes, we still here debating CJN. PMB ultimate goal is to islamise nigeria and his plan is happening slowly

    1. The appointed CJN is the next person available to the position by seniority. I have no problem with that or where he comes from or religion. My worries are, why didn't the law allowed to take it full course? The judiciary has been abused and desecrated by a tyrant, despot and political hooligans just the same way they tried to desecrate the hallowed chamber.

    2. Edache, Ganduje is a political appointee who enjoys immunity so PMB cannot do anything to him, not even tomorrow. It is Kano house of assembly that can do something but it is not all that uhuru.
      Secondly, PMB did not give Ganduje any award. Absolute lie. Thirdly, thé acting CJN is the next in hierarchy so there is no debate there. Fourthly, when PMB did not fire Kemi Adeosun, a southern Christian despite the calls for him to do the needful, was it because he wanted to Islamize Nigeria? Take away your double standard too and Half baked news with lies.

What the president has done is an infringement on the judiciary and undermining the principle of separation of power. The government wants to instill fear on the judiciary so as to manipulate them into submission in their dirty games. They want the new CJN to give them favorable judgement on the Rivers State APC case in which they have lost over five times in court. They want to claim Akwaibom by all means using the Judiciary as well. We are keenly watching.

  21. It was politics but one that is good for the nation.The CJN should’ve honorably resigned when the issue blew up but he didn’t and waited till he got axed.The law always has a loophole and Nigerian elites who can afford the best SANs in the country have always used these loopholes to their advantage that’s why a lot of rich criminals are walking free because one SAN can quote one inconsistency in the constitution and have his client walk away from an obvious crime so if such loopholes are used against them e no bad at all.The loophole in this case being the CJNs ruling on a case in 2013 where he said the CCT has the final say on any issue that involves a breach of the CCT codes and ethics irrespective of the individual involved.

    2) Is he the INEC chairman or involved in election administration?
    3) Did he admit to committing the offence?
    4) Who empowered CCT to recommend dismissal of corrupt judges?
    5) Who refused to allow NJC meeting?
    6) Why did the senate padlock there doors so they could defend corruption?
