Presidency Reacts To The Mass Deportation Of Nigerians In Ghana

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has described the renewed harassment, mass arrest and deportation of hundreds of Nigerians from Ghana as worrisome.

Dabiri-Erewa made this known in a statement by her media aide, Abdul-Rahman Balogun, on Thursday in Abuja, she however, assured that the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Amb. Olufemi Abikoye was on top of the situation and was engaging with relevant authorities in Ghana.

“While any Nigerian who commits a crime will have to face the wrath of the law, the situation of any Nigerian being inhumanly and unjustly treated, will not be acceptable,” she said.

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa recalled the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018 when shops owned by Nigerian traders were locked in Ghana, which forced some of them to relocate back home and how the issue was amicably resolved between the two presidents in the spirit of brotherhood.

Dabiri-Erewa, therefore, appealed to Nigerians living in Ghana to be good ambassadors of the country by abiding by the rules and regulations in that country.
While also appealing to the Ghanaian authorities to be brotherly in their approach in dealing with Nigerians living in Ghana by reciprocating Nigeria’s kind gestures to Ghanaians in Nigeria.

  1. So shame that the dilapidated infrastructural and economical nature of the country is forcing many Nigerians to leave the country in their numbers and bad as it is to even country we are better of. If things were working the way they should in this country, I doubt anyone would want to leave or seek greener pastures outside. Nigeria as a country has failed the people. I weep seeing things like this.

    2. Less than 24hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, APC leaders are leading Soldiers and SARs Personnel to arrest hundreds of PDP supporters in different towns of Rivers State.

Towns worse hit as at Press Time include, Eleme, Abonnema, Abua, Omoku, Ahoada , Bori and Bodo. The soldiers and SARs Personnel as at Thursday night were directed to the homes of PDP ward leaders in the said towns. These security personnel, according to eye witnesses, would shoot sporadically to scare people, before effecting illegal arrests.

Leaders are of the belief that the trick is being adopted to create a window for APC faction loyal to Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to use hired armed thugs to cart away electoral materials.

    5. Sometimes I refrain from calling people names here, but I think it is necessary at a point to call an idiot by its name. Did you see in my comment where I mention APC or this administration? Why have you chosen to be a disgrace to people who spent their hard earned resources to see you become useful and reasonable to the society? Why why why???

    1. Posh, this is not the first time Ghanaians have deported Nigerians. They did in the 70's, and we also deported Ghanaians in the 80's. Honestly, Nigerians commits all sort of crimes in other countries. You can't really blame them, you know.

  5. Na wa ooo. The way all these countries deport Nigerians in a twinkle of an eye is quite worrisome. Does that mean Nugerians are no longer accepted in all these other African countries. While we have so many other African countries citizens here in Nigeria enjoying just a normal Nigerian without worrying about anything. This government has brought nothing but shame and disgrace to Nigerians.

  7. If only you know what Nigerians do in Ghana and how they live?
There's need to exercise precautionary measures instead of deporting them.
    We are ECOWAS.

Ghanaians are trying to secure the mindset of their youths because 9ja guys are "living large" and disobeying too many laws in Ghana.

  9. Why not? The reality is, a lot of Nigerians are set on destroying anything good and orderly. Even among themselves, it's most likely to be a fellow Naija who will sell another out bcos of jealousy and unwarranted competition, especially, if they are of different tribes. Yeye pipo.

  10. Come to this Europe, and see lots of Nigerians, very very loud. They always screaming on top of their voices on the buses, when on the phone. Committing crimes up and down. So so local. It never a good thing to let Nigerians have their way, especially in other African countries. They will show you pepper.
