Sen. Godswill Akpabio Denies Losing Senatorial Seat

Godswill Akpabio, former senate minority leader, says he did not lose Saturday’s election despite the declaration of Chris Ekpeyong as winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to results declared by INEC, Ekpeyong polled 118,215 votes ahead of Akpabio who secured 83,158 votes in the Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial district election.

But speaking to journalists after the certificates of return were presented to President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, on Wednesday, Akpabio described the outcome of the senatorial election as a temporary setback.

“I won, I won, it is a temporary setback, that is why there are processes,” he said.

“If for instance you feel you were cheated or there was wrong collation, you resort to the court. For me I did not fail, I can’t fail. I believe strongly that there must have been some wrong collation somewhere, so those things will be corrected.

“We have processes in the election; it is from one stage now, we have registration, you have to vote, you have to collate and if there are mistakes anywhere, you go to court and get back your mandate.
My mandate is solid and waiting for me. You know that I cannot fail election, I cannot fail. Do you expect me to fail? Won’t you love me to be your senator? I can’t fail.”

Akpabio had resigned his position as the senate minority leader and joined the APC with a large number of supporters from the PDP.

    1. Akwaibom people became tired of him and his style of politics. I won't be surprised if the Federal government maneuver to give him victory after now. Haven't they done worse than this before?

No he didn't. Another magu magu in the making.
I pity those who take power by force. You take it and also take what comes with it. It is God that gives power. If you take it by force, you answer to him.

Only we won't know how it is dealing with you.

Even Buhari didn't win and we know. But God is bigger than everyone. He knows how to play the game. Selah

  3. This confidence is coming from Buhari’s win. He better accept this defeat in peace and not throw his state into crises. The collation that was good enough to declare Buhari president is good enough to declare he lost.

I was an INEC ad-hoc staff, and APC tried all they could to win this election. Corpers were made to change results in APCs favour ( story for another day ), still he lost. He should go and rest and allow others, Akwa ibom no need Godfather.
