Seven Year Old Boy Fatally Punished For Not Knowing Bible Verses

A 7-year-old Wisconsin boy died from injuries sustained while being punished for not knowing Bible verses, according to a criminal complaint obtained by multiple outlets.

Ethan Hauschultz died in April 2018 after he was severely beaten and buried in the snow at the home of his court-appointed guardians, Timothy and Tina Hauschultz, according to a statement from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.

After a months-long investigation, the couple and their 15-year-old son Damian Hauschultz were all arrested and charged on Feb. 1 in connection with Ethan’s death. The trio appeared in adult court on Monday but it was not immediately clear if any of them has entered a plea.

Investigators allege Ethan was hit, kicked, poked and repeatedly struck by Damian.

“Over the course of 1-1.5 hours, the 15-year-old hit, kicked, struck and poked Ethan numerous times. He repeatedly shoved Ethan to the ground and rolled the heavy log across Ethan’s chest. He stood on his body and head while Ethan was face-down in a puddle. He ultimately buried Ethan completely in snow,” the sheriff’s office alleged in a statement.

Investigators allege Ethan and his three siblings had been performing a punishment ordered by Timothy and monitored by Damian that required Ethan to carry a heavy wooden log, weighing approximately two-thirds of his body weight. Ethan weighed only 60 lbs.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Ethan died from hypothermia and blunt force injuries to his head, chest and abdomen. “Ethan died following strenuous physical punishment outdoors and prolonged environmental exposure while covered/buried in snow,” the sheriff’s office said.

The punishment was for “not knowing 13 Bible verses to Timothy’s satisfaction,” WLUK-TV reports, citing criminal complaints.

According to the criminal complaints — which were obtained by WLUK TV, WBAY and the Herald Times Reporter — the siblings told officials they were required to carry wood every day, for two hours a day, for not knowing their Bible verses, and that Ethan was being punished for not knowing verses.

Damian allegedly told investigators when Ethan became unresponsive, he thought the boy was just resisting and he buried the child under what he estimated was 80 lbs. of snow and ice, which he called “his own little coffin of snow,” reports WBAY.

Timothy and Tina were not home, according to the criminal complaint, which stated that the couple took Ethan to a local hospital after coming home. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Timothy is charged with being party to the crimes of felony murder, intent to contribute to the delinquency of a child resulting in death, physical abuse of a child intentionally causing bodily harm and misdemeanor battery.

Tina is charged with being party to the crimes of contributing to the delinquency of a child resulting in death and failing to act to prevent bodily harm to a child.

Damian, who is being held in a juvenile detention center, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, physical abuse of a child intentionally causing bodily harm and substantial battery.

In Wisconsin, juveniles charged with certain homicide counts are handled in adult court, WLUK-TV reports

A judge set Timothy Hauschultz’s bond at $100,000, Tina’s bond at $75,000 and Damian’s bond is set at $150,000.

    1. There’s nothing wrong with the woman. She appears funny in the picture because of the way she positioned her body for her mugshot. She was supposed to stand straight but the fingerprint tech must have gotten tired of telling her to stand straight and just decided to take the picture like that. I see that daily.

  9. Poor kid!! You see how people read this our Bible upside down?? How could people who profess to love God so much be this wicked? How could they have so much hate in their hearts for a child.
I always pray for God to keep me alive to raise my kids. I feel so bad for some kids in foster homes. They go through so much from sexual, emotional, physical to psychological abuse. Meanwhile, they get paid by the state for taking the kids in.
This weather that is so freaking cold. That’s where a whole living being was taken and buried in snow as a form of punishment. Bible verses that l bet you they too do not know. Overzealous fools. I hope someone beats the crap out of them in Jail or in Prison after they get sentenced.

  10. These are the type of people in Jail that will make me look the other way for them to get jumped for what they did to a poor child. Nobody likes people who hurt kids. No one. Not even the toughest inmate.
