Lagos School Building Collapse - 50 Children Rescued

Authorities have rescued at least 50 children so far from a three-storey building which collapsed in the Itafaji area of Lagos Island.

Emergency rescue agencies such as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as security personnel are currently on ground at the scene of the incident.

The police, army and National Security and Civil Defence Force, NSCDC, are also making contributions with rescue operations.

The number of casualties is, however, yet to be determined.

The building, situated at Massey Street at the Adeniji Adele area of Lagos Island caved in at about 9:45 am on Wednesday.

  2. Great news hearing this. I heard a woman has five children inside that building. This is so shocking and heartbreaking. Come to think that the building was marked for demolition last year. Nigerians plays a lot over sensitive matters.

  19. Pls what are those people doing there? Except for the rescue team and the affected people, I see no reason why that place should be crowded. I am very sure they are not helping the rescue people at all. It is to snap pictures and post on social media. That was how we had accident and one moron had the nerve to be making videos while we were still entrapped under a bus. Nigerians and our stupidity .pls they should clear from there and give the rescue people space to do their job. I can only imagine how difficult it will be to carry a rescued child across that mammoth crowd.

  25. A parent said through out last week his children were home because of unpaid fees. He hustled and paid their fees on Monday only for them to be involved in accident...

Most houses in Lagos island have been compromised and govt officials who mark a house for demolition will not do the needful once you grease their hands.

  28. Lagos Island buildings are a menace, catastrophe waiting to happen. You see a narrow space and 4 nos 5 storey building will be constructed, no privacy, no ventilation. Only God knows the agonizing cries of the kids, the fear! God Almighty what is happening?

  29. Must everyone stay in lagos. beats my imagination. if you see Lagos island house, you will cry for them. How they breath baffles me, no space for ventilation at all. And some of them can live comfortably in their various state o. See as people dey stand on the building forgetting that people are trapped under
