    1. There is a fly called botfly. It will perch on you n lay it's eggs which will turn to a larva (maggot) under your skin. Check on youtube. I have seen them remove it from a lady live. It's not a serious medical issue. Wear clothes when you visit regions which have the fly

    2. You are very right. That happened to my neighbour on her first tourist travel to Africa.

    1. Yes. I've seen it before on a domestic staff we brought newly from the village. My mum put palm oil on the place and pressed out almost 12 of these maggots.
She said it can come from sleeping on damp mattress that has been left outside, too. In a village setting that is pretty normal. Basically from unsanitory living conditions sha.

    2. It happened to me twice, one on my bumbum and my left breast .the pain is out of this world. I actually removed it myself, the first time it happened i was so scared i had to Google about it.the scar is still very fresh after 2/3 years now. He will be fine with antibiotics.

    3. True. This happened to me when i was 10. When my mum finally pressed it out after it had tortured me for like 2weeks, she frist ground it and still burnt it.

    1. Thus can be explained medically.
I Timbu fly can grow under your skin if it lays egg on any cloth left outside.
It can grow to a maggot

    2. Tinubu get fly kwa?!!! Lol. Dont i just love Nigerians. Such a fly i imagine must be domineering once it latches on to your body and suck the very life from you unless something drastic is done.

    3. Sapphire is only a misspelling issue. She meant to say Tumbu fly I think. Nobody will want to harbour Tinubu as a fly I'm sure.

  4. Heard about this before....don't think it's something massive , and no it's not village people matter. It should heal up in no time

  8. This is something caused by a Tumbu fly. In certain parts of Naija, if you dry your clothes outside, the flies will come lay eggs on your clothes. If you then wear the clothing, the eggs will burrow under your skin and hatch. The maggots then try to wriggle out hence the 'boil'. Once the boil is carefully lanced or when the the maggot is ready it releases itself.

    4. You mean, after rubbing palm oil on the affected part, the maggot comes out on its own or il press the affected part for it to come out??... because I've had a painless boil on my shoulder for 3yrs now or even more, so I don't know if I have been a victim of the timbu fly. Help

  9. Things like this affects people in the village more. I know someone it happened to, I don't know how they entered her body thru her back, she was getting thin and having sleepless nights....she thought it was boils....someone told her to apply palm oil on both sides of her back, she did the maggots were sucking on the oil, her mum noticed them and pressed them out.

  10. Everything doesn't need spirituality attached to it.

Some parasites get in contact with clothes when spread outside and usually find its way to the body through the pores. It begins to survive on the said host and grows bigger with time but appears like boil on the body surface. The pains you feel only starts when the parasite is in motion.

Surgery is not really needed if you experience it. Just rub palm oil or any available oil on the affected area and press vigorously, the maggot will fall off.

(I'm the one giving advice and at the same time shivering😀😀😀😀)

    1. these particular maggots are usually from spread clothes that are not properly ironed or bedsheets. oga Harry, you no dey iron your cloth ni? I always go with my own sheets to hotels

      Delete
    2. You're correct. That's why it's not good to spread the back of your clothes while hanging.

  11. This happens, there is a fly that lays egg on spread cloths tiny enough to through your sweat pore. As they get in there they grow gradually till you become uncomfortable to notice. This happens to kids a lot.

  13. He probably had his clothes speed in a damp area.

I remember some corpers in my set had this while we were in camp in Jos.

A particular girl removed like 10 from her body, she was fond of lying on the field in the evening with her camp boyfriends! I didn't pity her at all.

  14. This has happened to my friend years back, but if you iron your clothes before wearing them, will the stuff still get to the body?

    ReplyDelete
  15. It is very normal nah, it doesn't even require surgery and it's not a big deal. I have helped people remove it many times.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nah it’s a common thing called myiasis . Caused by spreading especially underwears and other intimate wears outside. A fly called Cordylobia anthropophaga aka Gumby fly now deposits it’s larva on the clothing and when you wear them they burrow into your skin because they love warm spaces and grow into maggot stage.
To remove them occlude the punctum they form with Vaseline , it will suffocate them and make them show their head and then you can pick them out.

  17. It's called botfly larvae infestation. It's nothing spiritual.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Not surprised. I have had living maggot brought out of my head before

    ReplyDelete
  19. Everything is now spiritual in Nigeria!
Normal botfly lavea infection is now termed spiritual.

Bacteria can build up within few seconds if there is any small sore on any part of the body that has not been well cared for. When bacteria build up, maggots are formed.

    1. That is not true Ms A. Infections caused by HARMFUL bacteria are totally different to maggot infestations which is caused by flies laying their eggs which hatch into maggots. Bacteria can multiply profusely within seconds but they are different to maggots, or fungal or viral infections.

      Delete
    2. MsA I’m shaking my head at your ignorance of bacteria.

    3. Ms A want to tell una wey dey Nigeria say she don go school well well in the abroad ni. 😁😁😁

    4. I am shocked. Bacteria cannot be seen with the naked eye. It has nothing to do with maggot from botfly. If you are referring to pus (an accumulation of dead white blood cells, dead bacteria/ other microorganisms) that is completely different.

  20. This is not spiritual, it happened to my brother

  21. It's not news, it happened to my sister when we were kids.
I heard it's common in South Africa

  22. See the way he made it out to be something serious. Just last year, we had dance rehearsals constantly over a period of 5 months. Those rehearsals were all done outside and some involved laying on the ground(grass). I noticed I had a painful spot on my back and after two days, it had started growing. I asked my mum to check and she told me it was a larva growing. She asked me to endure for another day then she rubbed palm oil on it. The idiot thing came out on its own cos it wanted to lick(eat) the oil. About half of the company suffered same fate, so we had to start using the theatre for rehearsals. Nothing strange abeg

  23. It happened to my daughter. We all thought it was an ordinary boil on her thigh. We rubbed ori (shea butter) on it and waited for it to get soft so we can express the pus. After several days, My baby was in so much pains she could hardly sleep at night. Then my husband noticed a white tip on it, we thought it was pus that wants to start coming out. When we pressed it, it would disappear and then appear again, now we became scared. Hubby said we should put more shea butter on it that whatever it is will come out sooner or later. After a few hours, we saw it clearly that it was a big maggot, hubby brought needle and dragged it out. Come and see prayers and kabashing. We later roasted it outside. Later, I checked it out on Google and saw that it was nothing serious, I also read up the causes and prevention. Now, I make sure I pack all our clothes spread outside before the sun goes down and I don't allow my daughter to play in the sand.

  24. There is so much to look out for when you live in a hot country. As much as I hate the long, cold winters here, it saves us from so much vermin and diseases.
