    1. i have pcos ( but I see my period every month) and fibroids. Removed the fibroids years ago but they are back. I have been married since end of 2016, no baby yet. Doctor said the only way out is IVF. My husband and I don't live together yet. Still working on his papers to join me here. When he comes over permanently, we will try the IVF, but I'm hoping on God to give us babies naturally.

  2. Victoria Beckham has it. She controlled it by loosing weight cutting carbs and she conceived so easily. Maintaining a super healthy BMI is one sure way to control it. It’s a lot of sacrifice but doable.

  3. I have waited for this post a long time...

Thanks for bringing up this post, i am here to learn.

Few years ago, i noticed my period was irregular which i complained about at my private clinic but i was tossed for several months.

I later went to the government hospital for check up and complained about my irregular period. I was asked to go for an "ultrasound scan" which reviewed i had (PCOS). I was referred to a gynea after the result and placed on some medications. The medications(bromocriptine and glucophage) are tiring i must confess. I spend about 8000 buying the drugs (2 bottles of bromocriptine and a pack of glucophage).

I feel better using the drugs over a year. At some point i stopped the medication because of the expenses. Will continue when am ready for conception.

I look forward to having an understanding partner, which we can walk this journey together.

I believe very soon, than i expect, i will testify...

  4. God bless you Stella for this post, this has been my nightmare for the past 15 years of my life. I have been TTC for some years now but this monster gets coming in the way, not to talk about the money spent on drugs, scan and consultations with different Gynecologists. I was told it will stop once i give birth. Just looking up to God for a breakthrough

    1. Have you tried using Clomid? I use that and I got pregnant the first time and had miscarriage, when I tried it the second time, I am a mother to the most healthy smart and beautiful 15 month baby girl. The only problem I have now is excess hair growth, that I believe will be over soon. My weight is perfect.

    5. I am interested. Please share it. I was diagnosed at age 19. Before then, when I didn't see my period for 6months and I wasn't sexually active, my parents took me to mama Ijaw. Am from south south and we so much believed in those women. After the massage, I was asked to come back in 2days time to collect the medicine that will aid the period to come out but the next day, I noticed dark blood and den followed by the red period but it wasn't flowing well. So by the time I went back, she gave me the medicine and my period flowed back, reddish and it was constant for 3yrs. That medicine was just 2000k. And the massage 200. As at then.
for 3yrs I never missed my period until during my NySC It ceased again. I went to clinic and was diagnosed Pos. I was placed on 21days oral pills to bring the period everymonth. Then I got tried, I was adding weight.... Note, I have always been a slim person, up till date I have never been above 65.
When I stopped, I didn't see it for some months , went to the internet and read up stuffs. then I stopped taking anything sugar and any other drink. I focused on my meals, more water, more veggies and boom it came back again. It has been constant.

I missed my period and found out I was pregnant but I lost it at 3months.
Am married, still ttc. Hoping, praying.. In fact I stopped believing it was PCOS because I do not have the symptoms other than the missed period. I don't have hairs, I am not fat....
The mama that treated me back then is no more .
It is well with us.. We will conquer PCOs.

    6. My fellow posters, the truth abt pcos is not actually what you eat. It's ur hormones are out of order. All you need is detoxification like calcium d glucarate, berberine to help bring ur insulin level down, vitex for regulating ur reproductive hormones, zinc, vit D, fish oil, lipoic acid, myo inisitol and D-chiro inisitol. I like to deworm first before starting the supplements above. Do colon cleanse first. I'm not a doctor or a nurse practitioner. If I describe my pcos symptoms to u guy, u will bow for me. I did these I just listed above when I wanted to end my life, I was so depressed doctors gave me everything they knew possible it didn't work for me made my case even worse from clomide to metformin I can't even name all. My pcos triggered me to have allergic reactions. I got pregnant without knowing mind you I already have 2 kids 11 and 7, doctors said I will not able to give birth. I did research to save my life now I tell myself I'm d queen p of pcos. You can also do foot massage to help ur chances of conceiving. Also take adrenal support to manage stress levels bcos some it's stress that throws d hormones away. Best of wishes.

    I have a son now,
    First I DID IT ALL,

    did hsg at prism,
went to that hospital in surulere that man that was said here to be very good
Dr Orebanjo of parklande hospital nothing
Did that 100 prayer or testimony stuff for ttc nothing.
My marriage was hanging by the thread
    I even stopped working
Got depressed and started eating just ugu and onions
avoided soy products, diary products, milk, sugar,
Trust me there is this glycerin index and something else where I ensured everything I ate was on the good part of the list.
    Treated infections,
    started taking
    CO ENZYME Q10(VERY EXPENSIVE)
    zinc SUPPLEMENT(VERY EXPENSIVE)
    vitamin e.
I also took vitamin b12 injection
    Parlodel.
If I can take back the hands of time I wouldn't take as much drugs as I did,
    Clomid, pregnacare.
Jesus my sweat was smelling of drugs.
I used my hard earned money to buy addyzoa, manix and zinc for the husband too cos honestly men can be useless.
    I got pregnant.
N:B The husband had low sperm count
    my job was very stressful
    We both had infections
Too much drugs changes your hormonal balance too so be careful.
    Village people too
    I dissapeared from SM
I just followed my spirit and stopped talking to a few people.
after I got pregnant some people didnt know till I gave birth.
they still doubt if I was ever pregnant.
But I Have pictures and the Cs scar for them.
Its better they doubt than I die of depression.
All my savings for years I gave to ttc.
Its a very draining emotional journey that I dont even wish for my enemy.

A protein based diet is the best way out.
Vegetables still has carbs though in low quantity

    4. Starch and tomatoes ke? Please go and google their nutritional content. Is the word starch not indicative of high carb content?

Which human being will be able to base a diet on nuts and avocados?
Besides some nuts like cashews and peanuts which are the available and affordable ones in Naija are also high in carbs.
A low carb diet is based on meat, fish, eggs and some controlled amount of green, leafy vegetables, controlled because they do contain some carbs, however low.

  16. PCOS...so many women suffer from this and they dunno. Since I started menstruating at age 14, I notice my period has never been regular I didn't bother because I felt not having monthly period was a relief that it would regularize itself much later. When I turn 18, the period was still not regular I confided in my mom and she took me to see a Dr who said it was hormonal imbalance and placed me on OCP for 3months. During that time, my period was regular but with heavy bleeding for 5-7days, lumps but no cramps. I felt it was due to the accumulated periods that wasnt expelled hence the heavy bleeding. It was a nightmare. I would change about 3 to 4 times at night before dawn. After the three months OCP. My period went back to being irregular. As usual, I didn't bother because I was tired of the flows and felt it was me taking a break. The following yr I saw another Dr who said it was hormonal imbalance and placed me on The same OCP. Then followed the heavy bleeding and after the three months I stopped and the period went back to being irregular. All those years it was irregular, didn't know when I ovulated(i don't think I had symptoms), couldn't calculate when my next period would come. It was like flying blind. In those years I was dating and sexually active. I never got pregnant even when I deliberately did it without protection to see if I would conceive but I never did. In all honesty, I wasn't all that bothered because I felt I was being shielded from committing an abortion since i wasnt ready to be a mom or for marriage. Fast forward to 2015 when I was in a serious relationship that would lead to marriage, I decided to do a proper investigation and I was diagnosed with PCOS (I was 26). The Dr said it would be difficult to get pregnant naturally. I got married early 2016 and still TTCing. Thank God for the man I married, he has been in the know since the very beginning. He loves me regardless and he has been so supportive and encouraging. Had a failed IVF last yr. I had to use donor eggs cause I didn't ovulate. The Dr said my ovaries were not responding even after stimulating them but I'm still pushing through though. It not been easy at all. The mood swings, constant knowledge that you are infertile especially seeing all your friends and even the ones you got married bfor having babies. Shout out to all those in the struggle, I know God will come through for us. Hang in there.

  21. Hello dear. I also have PCOS and had a failed ivf two moneys ago. Gearing in for the second soon. I decided to have a hysterectomy done to check my womb and make sure everything was ok. Only for them to find multiple polyps which I had removed. I’m kinda positive it was the cause of my failed ivf. PCOS causes hormaonal imbalance and we can have excess estrogen which stimulates growth of polyps. I strongly recommend that you should go for a HSG or hysteroscopy. Most times a transvaginal u/s doesn’t pick it

  22. i have pcos, and its been hell. i was diagnosed four years ago when i wasnt getting pregnant six months into my marraige and actively ttc'ing. before this time, my period has been irregular but since i stil got at least ten periods a year, i didnt bother much. i m not overweight, though i ve been plagued with mild acne right from when i hit puberty,so i didnt even that i had any condition at all. fast forward to after marriage and since i was already 32,we started ttc'ing right from our wedding night. when it didnt happen after 6 months, i ran to my doctor who conducted several test( hormonal assay, HSG, Trans-vaginal unltrasound scan, mcs/hvs) and came up with a diagnosis of pcos and advised i do ovulation stimulation. i did the ovulation stimulation using injectible gonadotropins and got pregnant the very first time. sadly i lost that pregnancy at 20 weeks due to cervical imcompetence. got pregnant 3 months later by natural conception( i guess pregnancy had balanced my hormones), but lost that pregnancy at 17 weeks again due to cervical incompetence.one yera later i got preganant after taking dostinex top correct my high prolactin levels. this time around i got a cerclage , but it failed at 20 weeks and i lost the pregnancy again. the herat break of it all! i swear i wanted to die, but thank God for his strenght. i was able to move on from the loss. presently i m trying to conceive again and i m taking myo-inositol, COQ10, vitamin E and Folic Acid. I m also ging to do ovulation induction using injectibles this april. praying i get pregnant on the first try. just because you have pcos doesnt mean you cant conceive or live a healthy life. it just means you will need conceiving and have to undertake some lifestyle changes to achieve your goal( weight managemment, watching what you eat, medications etc) . it is well oh.

I stopped seeing my period since 2016,after going to different hospital and taking medication I was asked to go for scan and test for hormonal imbalance that was how I found that I had pcos and hormonal imbalance, then I registered with federal medical centre where I am seeing a gynaecologist, I am still undergoing treatment, I was placed on levofem I have been taking the drug for 5 month now,and I have been seeing my period regularly since I was placed on the drug although the gynea said I will only conceive through IVF,but I am still taking the drug as prescribed and believing that everything will be fine.

    1. Hi levofem is a contraceptive. You can't get pregnant while on it. It doesn resolve PCOS it only resolves the system. The period you are getting is not a real one

  40. I spent the whole day at the hospital today... Running tests.. Had a tvs done... The PCOS follicles keep increasing... And so does the pain.. Was told a laproscopy would do just fine... The pain cannot even be described.. I snap alot when in pain... And worse yet, it has led to constant yeast infection.. Antibiotics have finished all my natural lactobacilli bacteria that's supposed to be down there... It's really annoying.. Talk about the weight gain! That's another matter... I keep struggling.. I'd be ok one day but for now, it's body management..
