Actress Genevieve Nnaji Talks About Her Type of Feminism

Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji described her version of feminism when she gave a speech at the London School of Economics Africa Summit.

She said;

“I think my own feminism is just human rights.
I am a human who has a right to having choices.
I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. It’s just that simple.
If I were a man, it will be the same thing.

At the end of the day, I was born alone, I will die alone, I breathe alone, so I definitely have rights to how I want to live my life.

The opposite of feminism is chauvinism. If you are not a feminist, you are chauvinist.”

  5. Sorry to disappoint all of you that commented earlier.
    "doing whatever you want" can land you to jail, can get you lynched in the Nigerian public etc.
    "whatever you want" can be getting drunk and driving, killing, raping, lying on the express to sleep etc.
    Yes, it includes cursing people, drunk fighting, doing drugs/smoking ganja, even cigarette.
    Deviant and socially reckless behaviors are not feminism. Whatever we choose to do has got consequences
    Chauvinism is not the opposite of feminism. A chauvinist has bias for a particular gender, everybody who does not have
    feminine bias are not necessarily feminists.
    So dear, your understanding of feminism is skewed! It is an aberration.
