Judge In Buhari Versus Atiku Case Explains Why She Withdrew From Panel..

The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has Recused herself from participating in adjudicating petitions challenging the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Zainab, who is also the President of the Appeal Court made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja after the tribunal had delivered ruling against an application challenging her membership of the tribunal.

On why she stepped down, she said: ”I have allowed the ruling on the application urging me to rescue my membership of the tribunal to test the position of the law.

“Now that the application has been dismissed on account of incompetence, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the panel.

“The remaining four members of the panel would remain while step would be taken to appoint my replacement’’, she said.

Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential Candidate in the Feb.23 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had approached the tribunal to challenge Bulkachuwa’s membership.

They prayed the tribunal to order the discharge of the chairman of the tribunal.

  1. Rescuing herself was the best thing anyone in her position would have done. First, her husband is currently an APC senator elect and the son is a governor aspirant under the platform of APC. If she had continue this case and judgment swing in favour of APC, then she will be labelled biased and been compromised. Also if the judgment goes in favour of PDP, then there is likelihood that the husband may be hunted for it. Or you think the husband doesn't have a skeleton in his cupboard?

Whichever way, the is the best decision ever. It was too dicey for her to continue even though she would have wanted.

  5. Stella I believe the word is "recuse"...so she recused herself from the trial, interesting. I wish that was all Atiku needed to win but we all know that even with her gone from the tribunal APC still has machineries to disrupt an unfavorable outcome of the tribunal.

  7. This is a waste of time because as the president she will definitely still be able to pull some strings from back stage.

  8. And we still on this matter,so atiku believes he is going to win, like the tribunal would ask buhari to vacate the seat of power.
I just laugh cos even the atiku camps know they can't win no matter the evidence.probably there is something he is looking for.

  9. She has done the normal thing. But the position of the law will not change. And facts will determine the verdict.
