I made a conscious decision that no daughter of mine will bear the name. Working with her was an experience a lot of us didn't enjoy. Na wah oh. But I know not every Joy is like that sha.

  38. I love South African names. The following names for girls I like are:
    Mbali..meaning flower
Gugulethu or Gugu...meaning Treasure, our pride in Zulu & isiXhosa.
    Thandiwe
    Lindiwe
    Olwethu or Owethu
    Ayanda
    Mandlakazi
    Nomathando..Thando
    Ekhaya or Khaya

I love the Xulu & Xhosa names. Especially the boys names, more than girls names.

    For boys I like:
    Mandla
    Linda
    Owami
    Njabulo
    Andile

    3. You forgot to include Lerato

      Delete
    4. Yes but u don't name girls Linda. It's Lindiwe..for girls.
And u won't name a boy Mbali? Do you? It's too feminine.
I agree names like (M)Khaya, (Lolo/ No..Thando, can be given to a boy or girl.

I love isiZulu & Xhosa names. And their meanings r awesome.
And also married women still do continue to answer their maiden (original family names) as title even after marriage. For example...MaKhumalo, MaThembu! For a girl/ whose family is Khumalo or Mthembu..still answers it with Ma..attached after marriage.
I love the South African people in their values towards extended family in terms of married men & women being more open to welcome step kids & treat them as their own. Unlike the Nigerians who turn their step kids, orphans etc into houseboys & house girls...or "foster" without ADOPTION!!!
South Africans r open to accept & embrace step kids. See how the Mandelas treat the Machel kids & family. They r also like full blooded Mandelas. And even though Graca never had any biological kid(s) for Nelson Mandela, yet Mandela gave her authority (legal & traditional) over his ancestral home (house) in Qunu. Now Graca is expected to be buried in Qunu..without doubt or future conflict, unlike Winnie...whose kids & grandkids figured it's best not to bury her in Mandela's ancestral place.

I love the meanings of their culture & names..for their meanings & what it expresses.
