Nigeria Celebrates Democracy Day 2019...

On June 12,1993 Nigerians went out peacefully and voted for a President..They voted MKO Abiola with over 8 million votes to defeat his opponent Bashir Tofa.....

Today Nigeria is marking its first Democracy day.....

That election was annulled and things were never the same in Nigeria....

The government of President Buhari has done what no government could do...He recognised June 12th and signed it into law as a National day....

Nigerians are very happy with this and as we celebrate June 12th,there is a lot of emotions attached...

What is your view?Do you remember June 12,1993?

There is ongoing celebration at the Nations capital Abuja as you read this and other heads of state are in Nigeria to celebrate with us.

Do you think Abiola should be recognised as President of Nigeria posthumously?

  1. If he won and was declare winner, he should be recognized accordingly, afterall Gen Abubarka wanted to hand over power to him b4 he died in custody.

  2. I don’t think he should be celebrated as the president posthumously because they never allowed him become the president but he should be celebrated on every June 12 to honour him because he is a hero.

  3. June 12th should be the day we honour the Nigerian hero MKO and not a day to celebrate him as president posthumously.

  9. I still remember his campaign song. The song was a hit then and he was loved in all the regions. Who knew tofa then.
According to some historians, abiola also sponsored few coups in the country.

  10. it is quite unfortunate that we celebrating a man, who countless time sponsored coup and played normal Nigeria politics. Meanwhile millions of Igbos were killed during the civil war, alot of events that worth to be marked has been swept under the carpet, as if those lives do not matter. but what do we get, to get the Yoruba political sympathy, APC decided to honor Abiola and even tag him Hero of democracy. Meanwhile the real heroes are dying in there numbers everyday either killed by the fulani herbsmen or the security agencies. If i may ask of what use is this celebration, if not for political gain. Remember those igbos slaugtered during the civil war, remember that doctor that stopped the spread of ebola, remember the countless air mishaps that took several lives, remember those killed by fulani herbsmen, remember those electorates killed protecting their votes, remember those at sambisa forest and also remember those captured and slain by boko haram created by this same government, these and many more are the heroes of democracy. not some nitwit
