Young Man Called Out For Asking Prof Wole Soyinka To Get Up From Flight Seat Responds

Former CEO Sahara Group CEO Mr Tony Cole on Monday June 24,2019 made a post calling out a young man for asking Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka to vacate a flight seat for him...

Mr Tonye insinuated that the young man had no respect and/or did not know who the Professor was.......
The young man who identifies himself as Mr Tosin Odunfa in this post explains what really happened and why he insisted on getting his seat back.....

What caught my attention ''Prof didnt mind getting up...''!!!..And some people wanted to break their heads arguing that the Prof was so embarrassed he quickly got up...

Meanwhile if you are a Nigerian and do not know anything about Professor Wole Soyinka,Chinwe Achebe,Cyprain Ekwensi,et al....Please start now!!!

    4. Autistic people find it hard to change routines, once something has be set out for them, they follow it to the latter, they are hardly spontaneous, so you cannot just change a decision without prior notice.
This is how most Nigerians react to an issue, forever jumping into conclusion.

    3. Where is this his Mani... place? I don't know if I believe his autism spectrum story. He needs to read up about Tonye Cole also. Those are 2 giants he was playing with. While he was right, what he did was inexpedient . He's Yoruba too?! Na wa. Lol@ teach about wole Soyinka in school. English was mandatory when I was in school, and I read and had to read the lion and the jewel. The guy probably walks around deaf or schooled abroad.

  7. Hmmm....I guess we shouldn’t be too quick to judge. There’s a lesson here though and I hope BVs will learn even before going on to make comments. He didn’t not reply like a rabid dog. He would have been justified to do so but he didn’t. Civilized people all of them from Wole Soyinka, Mr Cole and the guy with a baseball cap. We all must learn.
Meanwhile one of my greatest desires in life is to meet Professor Wole Soyinka.

  9. Tonye Cole is the bad one here. He tried so hard to paint the young man bad by describing him the way he did.

Later, they will be claiming Nigerian youths does not know their rights and can't fight for them, whereas the ones who have knowledge of their rights and demand for it will be be quickly castigated and be told they don't have respect.
Respect and courtesy work hand in hand.

Fault finders and youth don't have respect how market ooo. Read how majority wants to kill the boy for demanding his right.

  11. Thank God history is back in our curriculum.
Not just political history, all round history.
The Achebe's ,Soyinka's, the Hogan Bassey's, Peter Konyegwachies, Nelly Uchendus, Rex Lawson's, Orlando Hollywood, Herbert Ogundes,
The Chioma Ajunwas, Kanu Nwankwos etc. One young LAD asked we why we speak so highly about KANU, I was shocked. Didn't he know?

    1. The most refreshing news I heard last week was that History was back in the curricula in Nigerian schools. As for the young man, I said yesterday that it was the sympathiser who was crying more than the bereaved. The two people involved knew their rights and limits. If only Mr. Tonye Cole helped us to post more about the ethnic cleansing/genocide going on in some parts of the country as he did this "window seat" matter.

Abeg o, they should help us inform him that don't want men in our Amebo whatsapp group except for journalists. Eh-hen.

  19. dear tosin odunfa. I am highly disappointed in you. welldone you are now popular first, you embarrassed him by asking him to getup from your sit then you claim proff confided in you yet you betrayed him by exposing what was told you in confidence.now here you are selling of so much pride, no matter where you teach what you teach and what you have achieved pride is not your mate sir. one would expect that your first word would be " i am sorry gir whatever embarrassment I cursed you Sure then go on to explain yourself. sometimes silence is golden but of course not everyone can afford a gold.

He should have respected himself first by sitting in his own seat and allow the guy to come in, plead with him, left for him to agree or not..

  20. Big mannism is the problem with this country. When I read Tonye Cole's yesterday and how he degraded the young man and made him look petty and cheap and disrespectful, the typical naija policeman mentality. You have muscles and Tattoo then you're not responsible. Dude is a PhD holder and teaches Nano electromagnetic. I wonder what Tonye Cole would say now when he reads this. See all the celebrities shouting the young man was disrespectful simply becausehe was asking for what is he and for a good reason. Autism. No wonder Amaechi wanted to use him to cause problems in rivers state.

  21. This is a big lesson..we should not be too quick to judge without hearing the other side.

  22. Its not him.

To himself, he's trying to offer plausible explanations for the Bobo.

  25. In as much as we value respect and regards for elderly ones,,but circumstances at times might not allow u to display that..

Flight or call it Air transportation, is not just like our normal BRT where i can leave my sit for an old man or allow an old woman to occupy my space.
This has a ticket number and i dont think trying yo make issue from the above is reasonable

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is not the guy. This is satire. But when this story broke, I also imagined that the young man too could have a need for that particular seat, just like Prof.

This is the reason why people might not just do things to please the next person.
The culture of bullying women into sitting inside so a man will sit close to the door needs to stop too. The yourh can’t relinquish their seats on a flight because they were age-shamed.
Personally, Will I switch seats with Prof? Absolutely!!
Note, This is because I am not particular about aisle or window seats for now. I would have been so in awe that I would rush to switch seats with WS(This is my reality, don’t judge😁)
Should one that painstakingly selected a certain seat be made to stand? No, it is not village meeting. Money was paid, you for kuku suggest that the youth that paid for business class be made to swap their seats too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If the young man was a woman, Nigerians wouldn’t be understanding at all in fact they’d question the source of her income.
Will I leave my seat for WS? Yes, if he asks nicely without a spokesperson else he would have to gbe his body. WS doesn’t even look like he was offended and I’m sure the young man wasn’t rude about it at all but only notified WS of his error, I mean it happens a lot because most people tend to mix the alphanumeric arrangements.

Uncle Tonye just cried more than the bereaved and this Tosin person is a fraud for writing on behalf of someone else in the name of satire or whatever.

  28. Tonye Cole, Mo Abudu and Henshaw when never train their own children to respect their domestic staff first, na them dey come form voltron on behalf of Wole Soyinka? All these Nigerian 'rich' who are so disrespectful of the common man are now claiming 'respect for elders'when they don't even regard those working for them. I didn't even know Tonye stops to take selfies, how much more if he can take selfie with an ordinary man or any of his domestic staff so they can at least show their family and community they have the privilege of serving 'big men.' The young man has every right for his action. Tonye, Mo and Kate should just shut up and set their own children straight first before coming to bash a hard working young man who paid for a particular seat and has the right to it. Why didn't Tonye allow Soyinka take his own seat afterall or ask another person seated by the window to please vacant on his behalf so Soyinka can be comfortable? That would have set a very good example for the young man and others seated on that plane. And maybe, someone else on the flight would have reported it on Tonye's behalf so he can look saintly. Or is it because Soyinka is a global icon?

  31. Someone's right just got trampled upon cos of age difference which shouldn't be an issue cos d seat was picked & paid for. There's a huge difference between right and respect. "I" would have left my seat for any elder (whether famous or not).
None of us was there and Mr Tonye who reported the incident may not have been objective(I'm sure he wasnt sef judging from the way he described the young man) so I think we don't know what series of situations led the young man to maintain he wants his window seat.

In my opinion Prof should have taken his appropriate seat, allow the young man come, then accost him for a switch.

    1. Oh yes he was judging. Why mention his muscles and tattoos?? So people with those are bad and do not give up seats for the elderly?? His type will say that any boy with dreds is a yahoo boy. My respect for Tonye Cole dropped big time. And to think I was rooting for him as governor.

      Delete
  32. My main concern here is what transpired btw Prof & d guy. Do we realize that it might have taken this guy wks to book in advance for d flight & preferred seat, only to get onboard & ‘President Trump’ was sitting on his seat ? Learnt he was not rude to Prof & he left d seat honorably, Booz Prof knew that was d right thing to do, so why are people trying to outdo themselves on this matter?

  33. Chinwe Achebe kwua?

  34. Tonye Cole God saved rivers state from u. So this is how u would have just been coming to conclusions about things?? Then when old men chop money u will leave them cos of age?? Na God save us. Imand I used to respect u b4.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It’s the guys right bc he paid for the seat. However, if an elderly person wanted to swap something with me and it was not too much of an inconvinience. (In this case a window seat on a flight), I would do it. I have elderly parents and I would hope people will make an effort for them whenever they need help and so I make the effort for others in return.
