Abike Daibri-Erewa Says There Will Be No Cover Up To Unravel Death Of Nigerian Woman Strangled In South Africa

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said that the Nigerian Government will not fall for a cover-up of the alleged murder of a Nigerian, Mrs. Elizabeth Ndubuisi, who was reportedly strangled in her hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa described as painful, the murder of Mrs. Ndubuisi, who was, until her death, the Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

Condemning the alleged cover-ups by both the South African government and the hotel management, Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa said investigations to unravel the killers of late Ndubuisi will be thorough.

A video footage of late Ndubuisi, said to have died of strangulation in a hotel room in South Africa had emerged on social media, sparking outrage, especially after a report dated June 27, 2019 and signed by the Director-General of the Department of Health, Republic of South Africa, had claimed that she died of “unnatural causes consistent with strangulation.”

Late Ndubuisi died on June 13 at Kempton Park, Gauteng Province while attending the conference of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO). She was found dead in her room at Emperor’s Palace Casino, Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg.

Other Nigerians, including the former chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, condemned the murder of late Ndubuisi and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa tweeted saying the Controller-General in Johannesburg has assured that investigation into the murder of late Mrs. Ndubuisi would be transparent and thorough. According to her, “Everything will be done to unravel the death of such a great woman. Our mission in Joburg will ensure that We will not relent I’m demanding this . “No cover up will be allowed. I have faith in our mission in Jo burg. Investigations will be thorough. It’s a painful period. We must ensure matter unravelled. “The CG in Joburg has assured that investigations will be thorough and transparent .And I believe it will.”

    1. This is so sad, she only went to attend a conference and got killed... Dear Nigerians, South Africa and Ghana are no-go areas for us, even if a trip there is in the line of duty, politely decline citing safety concerns. Your life above everything else...

  5. This is sad. SA is generally not safe. From the airport, you need to be extra alert. Never let anyone claiming to be an airline staff help you with your luggage or passport.
We didn't know a man that got on the lift with us at the airport was one of the criminals that loiter the airport till 2 police men asked us to hold the lift, literally kicked him on his butt to get him out of the lift and told him to leave us alone. Had no clue he was trailing us.
The hotel she stayed at Kepton park seemed ok when we were there though. How did this happen? Poor woman must have been so scared.
At one of the seafront hotels we stayed in Durban, we tipped the porter generously and he was so happy, he warned us not to leave any valuable in the room, make sure the door is always locked and not to open the door if anyone knocks. This was a room on the 12th floor of a top rated hotel. It was the most chilling hotel experience and we barricaded the door with furniture. Checked out the next day and moved to another hotel but never forgot the advice all through our tour of SA. Also had a near run in with some boys in a car when we were walking back to the hotel from dinner few blocks away. Seeing my spouse few steps behind + God, made the miscreants zoom off. When you see the way oyibo people carry gun in Cape Town, which is one of the best places in SA, you would know. They have gun drop points at malls where people check in their guns and pick them up on their way out. Sad!

  6. The fear I have in ever visiting that country called South Africa. If it's not news of rape you hear,it will be murder. It also doesn't help they have a dislike for Nigerians.
How sad, someone that just went for work purposes. RIP

  8. May her soul Rest In Peace! Amen hit Madam Abike, isn’t it double standard that you are trying to get to the root of the Murder because of her “Status”. How many Nigerians have been killed in South Africa and other Diaspora? What have you Abike in your capacity done to bring the incessant murders into light and give Nigerians/ Families some sort of closure? You guessed right; NOTHING !!!

Nigerians are being maimed daily in various unprovoked attack and some are jailed wrongly but you choose to get “worked up” over this one( No disrespect to the Dead).

The other day, a Nigerian was killed in Russia( alleged racist attack). He was an English Lecturer. Not anywhere have I read your outcry condemning the act in strongest terms.

A Young vibrant Lad has been wrongly accused in the United States and has been languishing in Jail for what he knows nothing about..still you are muted!!

I can give you more example Madam SSA. I know your Boys don’t live in the Country, God forbid they are a victim of all these heinous crime “REGULAR” Citizens are facing daily..is that when it will hit home that something need to be done???

You are a wrong person for this job and I am saddened that all this is happening under your watch but yet you just sit on your flipping backside DOING ABSOLUTELY FUCKALL!!

    1. They are very wicked and evil. Visited once and that was it. A set of human beings who choose to blame others for their woes and take out their frustrations on them.

How can someone go for a seminar and that is it. She didn't die in a plane crash, no accident, wasn't sick but some never do wells murdered her for nothing.

God forbid I have step my foot there again.

  12. It is good to get the culprits of this horrible act, but I always say -charity begins at home. When people are killed like flies here in Nigeria, let's not even talk of those by security officials- nothing is done. No investigation, no apology-nothing. So of course other countries feel Nigerian lives are worthless after all the Nigerian Government treat their people that way. Until we revere and value human life at home, all this will continue and so will the propaganda to "assume" we care.
