Under the NHGSFP, school children in over 53,000 public primary schools are fed with one free, nutritious meal a day, while it has engaged over 106,000 cooks in the 32 states.
The 32 states currently benefitting from the school feeding programme are: Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Sokoto, and Nasarawa.
Others include Taraba, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Plateau, Delta, Zamfara, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Niger, Katsina, Ondo, Edo, Gombe, Ekiti, and Yobe states.
In the second term of the Buhari administration, the programme has a target of reaching well over 12 million pupils in all the 36 states and the FCT.
In the same vein, the Federal Government has commenced the distribution of aluminium bowls and spoons for pupils in public primary schools in 6 states currently benefiting from the School Feeding Programme.
Under the First phase of the distribution, over 2.4 million bowls and spoons would be distributed in Plateau State (314,082), Adamawa (182,144), Kaduna (834,130), Katsina (742, 689), Oyo (199, 922), Delta (136, 710) and Ebonyi (73, 513).
The School feeding programme has not only helped to increase enrolment rates of pupils in the states, it is also effectively tackling early year malnutrition and the problem of stunting, while improving the cognitive skills of children.
The programme has also provided sustainable income for local farmers, jobs for cooks, increasing growth and productivity in the local economies.

ReplyDeleteI don't get it with this statement that the feeding programme has helped in the enrollment of pupils in the states. Are people now being enrolled in schools because of one day meal which is not even enough to satisfy their hunger or for the quality education they will get? Is this what governance have been reduced to? What are the bowls and spoons for? This is so shame that this rubbish here will be listed as one of an achievement from a President whom few days ago was accused by ASUU for being wicked towards education growth in the country.

DeleteIf they're honest wit the claims, funds judiciously used and cooks adequately supervised, then I commend the APCgovt. Govt primary schls in the 60s & 70s enjoyed same. We called it Mid Day Meal. They shld focus more on health, jobs and security pls.
ReplyDeleteThis term children were only given food for two weeks, they say it has been suspended that some irregularities were found on the part of the food vendors. Come and see children always complaining about hunger we help the few we can with our little token. But stella their is hunger in the land. The no of school children have dropped because that food was the motivation for many children may God help us all.

ReplyDeleteNo matter how poor I am, I don't agree or believe any government can feed my child better than me. Why not provide jobs and enabling environment so full fledged adults/ parents can thrive and provide for their families. That way, government would be able to focus on more important issues not Abraham Maslow's most basic needs. How old is Nigeria sef yet this is where we are. And to imagine the kind of food sef and the finacial quotation Mr Lying Mouth would quote is so absurd.
