Policeman Shot By El-Zakzaky’s Supporters At NASS Gate

The protest for the release of the leader of the Shiite movement, Ibrahim Elzakzaky who has been in detention since 2015 turned deadly on Tuesday as protesters tried to force their way into the National Assembly gate.

The protesters initially gathered at the Eagles Square in their usual protest.

From there, the Shiite charged at security personnel.

Eyewitnesses account maintained that the security agencies shot in the air to disperse the protesters but this did not deter them as one of the protesters snatched a rifle from a soldier and shot at a policeman.

It is worthy to note that there are about 250 security personnel in charge of manning the chambers. This comprises Police, State Security Services, Sergeant-at-arms and Civil Defence.

The protesters who
are seeking for the release of Elzakzaky, were tear-gassed while movement into the federal chambers were immediately restricted.
