Mrs Dee's Corner -The Least Offering

Offering time is often referred to as blessing time, but the blessing part depends on how bountiful the former is.

Our clergymen will always make us realise that 'God loves a cheerful giver', I guess the unsaid part would also means he hates a miserly giver.

I witnessed a particular incident where a woman who dropped twenty naira into the offering basin was called back to take her offering. According to the person handling the offerings, , he said it was an insult on God to give such meagre amount. My thoughts were "what if that was her widow's mite?" Should anyone even reject an offering on God's behalf?

When I asked a mature Christian if that action was okay, she stated clearly that she would rather not give at all than give such a little amount.

I was seriously taken aback. As a student, I used to give offerings as low as fifty naira and I can imagine how embarrassed and hurt I would have felt if I was told to take it back.

In my opinion I think people should be allowed to give unto God what they have and not be compelled to give more with grumbling. It is more about the willingness of the heart than the amount.

  1. I had never given #20 while growing up. I remember starting with #50. Sometimes #100 or #200. Few times #500.

  3. While growing up it was okay to give what you have or not give at all if you dont. It's not same now, when the offering basket is passed and you dont drop anything even your neighbor would look at you twice. There are people who beg their neighbor for offering, so they could be among the givers.

We just need to know Christ on a deeper level to know that our material things wont count on judgement day.

  4. The blessing part does not depend on how bountiful the offering is. The blessing part depends on how cheerfully you give no matter the amount.

The story you shared above how true is it? Do people now display the amount they want to give on their forehead or someone checks the amount each person drops?

Maybe I'm judging with churches I've attended.

Churches should introduce the use of envelopes please.

    1. Swag I believe the story. In my church even though we use envelopes, certain denominations are not accepted. According to the Pastor it is an insult to God

  5. That was a very crap thing to do to that woman!except the usher knew her to be a rich woman who could afford to give more than that....even then it was still a crap thing to do . why not leave God to be her judge( if he even cares about such things),after all he is the one that blesses. I bet you that happened in a church where the pastor is all about tithes and offering( awon hungry pastors dem). There are sometimes I have been so broke that 100 naira set I no get to give offering, will I not then go to church because of that? Who no get today no go get tomorrow?

  6. Well they are doing fine without mine. I use both tithe and offering to sow in a needy life. What you do unto others you do to me.
And it must not be someone you met begging on the street

  7. God loves a cheerful giver....and I would rather give what I have, thank not give at all. The widow's mite was acceptable unto God, because she gave all of what she had, which wasn't much. So calling someone to take back an offering, is wrong on all levels. Me no go gree collect am back, because I gave it to God not man.

  8. Nne, when they say "an insult to god", the god in reference is their pastor:
The very one whose greed they are trying to satisfy.
That kind of "meager money" will not be able to power his greed and indulgences.
"The Spirit says clearly that in the last days people shall abandon the faith and
shall be ... lovers of money, lovers
of pleasure...without natural affection...having a form of godliness but denying the power...from
    such turn away..."1 Tim.4 from vs. 1.

  9. i only give 1000 and nothing below any time i give offering because God has blessed me...when i had nothing i gave whatever i had. that pastor is not right in what he did and its not in our place to say it is demeaning to God. if u tell me that is your last card or best to give God then let only God who knows all things judge you

    1. And u think its necessary you come and tell them range of money you drop. For what now? Let your left ✋ not know what your right ✋ is giving. Give on secret and God will bless you in secret.

  10. people should be allow to give whatever they want to give, i give according to how God bless me and do not wish to explain the amount, reason why i give such amount to anyone. I only give to God and not to human being. In some churches people give offerigng and ask for change, i don't like that method. People even give fake money, some give dollars that you cannot exchange in the exchange market.

  11. I agree to the fact that nobody should reject an offering on behalf of God.

Luke 21:1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3“Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Did Jesus call the widow back to take her "meager" offering?

  12. Just go to Youtube and type "Benny Hinn confession" and see that those who championed this type
of preaching are repenting. It was just posted two days ago.

  13. Let God decide if the person that gives 10, 20 or 500 is a cheerful giver its not up pastor or anyone to decide.

  14. I have never given a dime. And I am more blessed than I could imagine. Keep feeding the scammers called pastors. If I am destined to be great, not giving will not kill that. Zuckerberg, Buffet, Bill Gates are not handing out 10% to any pastors and they can buy you, your pastor and all of your unborn generations, yet you believe these greedy bastard pastors. Keep throwing your money away. You see that orphanage, buy food and supplies and send to them. You will be blessed more.

  15. You give God money and u still ask him to bless u with money .. u are giving your pastor money and claiming it’s God.. which bank account does God have or how do they give God the money after collecting from you? Don’t tell me they are using it to Rowe care of the physical building church ooo cos Naija have many churches and we are still seen as criminals , so what’s the impact of the church in d society?
