Tuesday In House News..

Hailings!!!

...........................................................................................................

*A GENERATION OF COWARDS*

It's your fault. You started this. You started it long time ago when you resolved that your children would not pass through the difficulties you went through. Your love for them made them weak. Your parents prepared you for the challenges ahead. They allowed you to solve many of your problems. They only guarded and guided.

They allowed you to go to WAEC office to check your WASSCE result. You even travelled to Ikoyi to check UME and PCE results. But you consider your children too young and inexperienced to do anything for themselves. The same children that you put in school at age 2 have suddenly become too young. You rushed them through childhood thinking cognitive achievements would see them through.

They can't even keep their own records. When they register for exams, you keep photo cards and slips. You will keep result checkers too. When results are out, you rush to cafes to check and print them. You followed them everywhere and show them everything as if they were blind. You follow them to register for JAMB, your phone number is on the registration form, you stayed in the car on the exam day, immediately after exam, you zoom them home. They never get the chance to socialize. They can't even discuss contents and conduct of the exam with fellow candidates.

You won't let them stay back a second but you stayed back on the day of your own exam. You made new friends and all of you, strangers to one another, went to buy snacks together. You were all talking and smiling as if you had known one another for years but your children can't do this. "What else are you waiting for?" is the question from your raised voice.

When results are out, you will receive the notification. You will be the one to go and print the result and start thinking of how to get admission processed. Finally when admission is secured, you will still be the one to go to banks and pay all fees. You will also travel down to look for their accommodation. Unfortunately, you can't follow them to campus, you would have preferred to attend every lecture with them. You, inevitably, relax the apron string at this stage and allow them to face life by themselves for the first time.

They now have to, for the first time in their entire life, do things by themselves and for themselves. There's no more mom and dad to think, act, predict, assume and foresee events any more. Then the vicissitudes of life come knocking. They fail one course out of nine in 100 level but they struggle to move on. When it happens again in 300L and they consider all the hardships of the last two years, the only way out is to commit suicide. What kind of children commit suicide after failing exams? Haven't they heard stories of dropouts who have become extremely successful? What kind of children are you raising? Please stop raising a generation of cowards.

  7. Did I just wrote about my life? exactly poster you described how I am right now cos of too much of everything you wrote up there. words for words. Did I minster to you? I'm 27 but my upbringing doesn't make me socialise reason I have no friends. I wasn't allowed to n my mom still think I'm a child. she controls me n make decisions for me if I say otherwise, she says I'm insulting and disobeying g her that I'm now a big girl right? you go get things, she says you go visit a man. That's all she says every time I stay a bit longer if I'm on an errand. it started from my days as a child. she hasn't spoken to me for a week now cos I disagree with her decision over me. She went about reporting me to people n lying about me. she says I should stay on my own
my mom has been a torn on my flesh. If there was anything dangerous close, she would pour or hit it on you. She's violent n gets angry so easily. at times wished she wasn't my mother. A lot I can't say

    3. Anon 14:07 I know what you mean, my mom is like that. Those suggesting moving out eg Yori and Becky I cant even try it. To worsen matters you would think living in the abroad would change her mindset but nope even over here she is the same. She believes from her house to your husband's house. If you happen to stay away during university, you come back home when you graduate

    5. You are also an enabler in what you are allowing your mum to do to you. I moved out when I was 22. My dad was known as Fadeyi Oloro in our area. You dare not defy him. I stood my ground and became financially independent. Tough at first but now I send money to him. You only have one life o.

  9. What about a generation of children so smothered in attention that any slightest absence of the parents makes majority of them run wild. My child goes to a private university with strict church guidelines but you don't follow them to their hostels do you? The lesbianism, all these babalawo and mamalawo masquerading on IG as blue eyes sellers, favour oils and attraction kit sellers have opened business on their immpresionable minds. Their runs nko? The incisions on their bodies? The guys nko? A big percentage of them are running wild, porn addicts and heavy drug users.
It's alarming and then they come home during the holidays and behave like saints at home.
Engage your children, teach them about life, give them sex education oh! take them to the psychiatric hospital so that they can see 1st hand the effects of hard drugs, make them to be part of the youth ministry of the church, never stop interceding for them in the place of prayers.
Schools will soon resume, you don't do your part or you are lackadaisical about it; a damaged child from a damaged home will prey on yours in the school environment. There's more to raising children than providing everything they need including the ones they don't ask for. May God give every parent out there the grace to raise Godly children.

    1. I don't support the not attending pta meetings and you arranging a fake adult - that is scamming. People call scamming survival. Look where we are today. It is not that parents should take off their hands totally, but that they should progressively give a measure of independence to their kids till they become adults. And even as adults they still need your support, advice, prayers and friendship as parents.

  19. Mehn...My parents, especially my dad of blessed memory made me do things on my own. There was one time when I was in JSS 2, he forced me to pay my school fees myself. That marked the beginning of paying my fees my self. Even if your post ume is in the North, na only you go travel go. Highest, they would escort you to bus stop. I did all my registeration for university myself. Who wan help you? You no ready to go school, na. I remember when my mum followed me to Unilag to write post utme, the students there yab me ehnnn..After that, na only me waka go. Intact, going with your parents would only hamper things. I think the way we were brought us toughened us. We are just two but dem no spoil us. If no one is at home, me and my sis would lock doors and play with ourselves. That has also helped us today. We hardly get influenced by anything. If your lifestyle is not what we are used to, we would jejely leave you alone and look for friends that share our values. If you live the fast lane life, I am indifferent. No time for wannabe. I would train my children to be independent. Smart, wise and agile. No dependency.

  20. Hey SluttyChic saw your message on the Spontaneous post today. I'm very well thank you. Just been busy day with work.. As for today's IHN first post, the reason parents are over protective is because things are not what they used to be before especially in Nigeria. I hope you are a parent because you can only see and fear what such parents fear when you become a parent yourself..

  22. Sometimes it's good for either parents or Guardians to go with the child before criminally minded students will Scam the child of her School fees and money.
My former colleague was scammed of her School fees cos she deposited it into her friends account during yr 1 registration and the outcome was that she dropped out. The elder brother didn't give her another money for School fees.

  23. Let's not confuse Neglect/suffering with Proper child training. There is absolutely nothing wrong in a parent doting over his child.
When I gained admission, my parents followed me from Bauchi to Ilorin. My mum helped in my hostel registration because they wanted me to get a good hostel and afterwards they returned home. Did that make me stupid or dependent?? NO! That was the only time they followed me to school. I went back to Bauchi on my own from that session till I graduated. If you train your child properly, you won't have any fear as to the child becoming too dependent on you because you must have instilled the right qualities for survival in them.
Parents do all these because the Nigeria of today is not what they had back then. Where there kidnappings and incessant killings in the past? Does your child have to suffer because you suffered? Many of us see these rich kids and wish we have the opportunities they have.
Some 'kpako' children are worse than ajebo children because the suffering messed them up. Please provide forbyour children and TRAIN them properly, they will not be cowards

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lol @ what kind of child commits suicide cos they failed exams? It's obvious you've not met my parents so you think it's only those who were pampered that can't cope.

In the house where I grew up (I can't call it a home), only God saved me from committing suicide. It was like my parents were actually trying to drive me to do so. Nothing was ever good enough for them. I felt like an orphan, I actually used to pray that I'd be told I was adopted. How can your parents be alive and Psalm 27:10 is where you find solace? Leave matter, please.

My father would tell me how much he hated me. How I'd never be anything in life. How I'd never be honoured in this life, that he would rather die than see it happen. He used to tell me at least twice a week how he would kill me and nobody would know, and if anyone knew, they wouldn't question him. My mother was there every step of the way, encouraging and enabling him. She would tell me that if I ever told anyone, nobody would believe me. She would then tell lies about me to everyone she could find. My parents were very believable cos they were very upstanding professional people, Mass every Sunday, morning and evening devotion at home. But they were sick in the head, soul and spirit - there's no other explanation. My biological parents arranged to have me killed. Something went wrong (abi right), their plan backfired and my father died instead. Till today, my father's people don't know what really went down. Like families of most Naija men, they believed my mother had a hand in it but their hearts will cut when they learn the truth. My mother played the grieving widow to perfection, knowing fully well what she and her husband had done. If I'd died as planned, nobody would have known and everyone would have pitied them.

I didn't know (or my mind refused to accept) what my parents did till many years later. It hit me when I learned that my own mother was trying to get my husband killed. (She had tried and thankfully failed before I realised). According to her, I don't deserve honour (my husband virtually worships me). And that's when I started to remember. See eh, no matter how deep you bury trauma, it will surface when it's time for sh*t to be dealt with. You'd best believe when my father died and I cried, mine were tears of relief. I thanked God for saving me. His funeral, people turned up from everywhere. He had been very generous to outsiders so they called him a philanthropist rotflmao! Chei, the irony. I am 125% confident that there's NO way I'd be alive today if my father hadn't died. He'd either have killed me or frustrated me into taking my own life. That's why now when I see something that looks like a tragedy, I'm not very quick with sympathy cos often we're not seeing what happened but the result. Some people have passed through Hell that others will never understand. Not all our tears are just because driver brought Ovaltine instead of the Milo we asked our parents to send to us in our boarding school.

    1. Poster, may the good Lord remain your fortress and help. Yet, one must ask: what was behind your dad's hatred for you? How did he die? Why was your mother part of this evil setup? What did they stand to gain from putting their own blood daughter or any other human for that matter thru such traumatic upbringing? Mehn, so many more questions beg for answers but if you could, your feedback would really shine light on this darkness and perhaps, save others going thru this.
